What a misnomer.

I just had a couple in our potluck/luncheon.

They suck.

Different family members own/run different stores. The one on Castroville road is still decent.

The diet has been put on hiatus due to holiday luncheons.

It's back on starting Monday. Well, actually it's back on tomorrow because there will be no more luncheons.

Ruebens on Rigsby? WAY too much masa...

I fucking hate when they put chingos of masa on tamales.

And another thing, back in the Valley, chicken tamales rule the roost. I can't quite get into this whole pork tamale mess.

Damn, there's nothing delicious about these god damn tamales.

I've had them from there and they weren't bad. Chicken tamales? We always had deer or pork tamales and nothing beats the ones mom or grandma make. I can only eat a few this year. :cry

I've helped make them many times until my mom caught me licking the tamale wrapper while I was rolling.

At least you didn't have to deal with people's homemade crap. Being one of the only guys in my area all these chicks hound me about their crap. "Make sure you get some of my pie, casserole, cake, mac and cheese, blah blah blah". I found a freakin long hair in the broccoli and rice crap someone made.

I always go for the store bought stuff or stuff from the clean freaks.

I don't get how people think that Delicious and Reuben's Tamales are good tamales. They aren't close to good if you've had real tamales. Sorry just my opinion.

IMHO, for some I can understand how they would be considered good tamales as not everyone has tasted great homemade tamales that have that special taste that only love can add. And when one is hungry and has the munchies that can also add flavor and cloud ones judgment.

I like them a lot. Too much "masa", I guess I agree I'm no cook. They used to be meatier not even a few years ago if that's what you're saying. Those have always been my favorite tamales though forever, I guess cause they are so close and I've eaten shitloads.

It really didn't have anything to do with the masa. There just wasn't any flavor to any of it.

In my family, tamales are a New Years tradition. My mom and dad and aunt and uncle do a tamale assembly line on New Years Eve and then everyone meets up at their house after the parties. But since I'm not near them I make them by myself, a couple of days before.
