Install 2 Cd/DVD drives?

I figured out what my problem was with my new HP p6234f Windows 7 computer. I guess my old network adapter wasn't compatible, so I had to shell out 80 bucks for a new one.

Oh well.


Now my next obstacle is installing my Sony DRU-840A Internal 20X max Multi Format DVD Burner which is compatible with windows 7.


I already have a CD/DVD drive in the first bay, but not the second.


I know how to install them, but the part that is tricking me up is this:

In my old HP computer, I had those IDE connectors that you would hook to the drives. But in this computer, I have these http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf-JAVA/Doc/images/c01039332.jpg which don't seem to be made specificly from my Sony driver.

Am I missing something here, or can I not use my Sony driver in the second expansion bay?

My Sony Cd drive has a long IDE placement where the IDE cable attaches. I take it, I can't use it?

IDE (or PATA) is pretty much dead. All new mobos will use SATA connections instead.

There is a SATA connection from the power supply for power and from the mobo for data for SATA drives. Your old burner uses IDE for data and molex for power. You can get power from the connector mouse posted (molex to SATA converter).

Only two solutions for your IDE problem.

1. New dvd burner
2. PCI IDE connectors

The PCI IDE things usually don't work and the PC probably wont POST unless you are one of the lucky few. I'd sell the old burner and buy a cheap one that works with SATA.

New burner. If your motherboard doesn't have an IDE slot, it's not worth bothering an attempt to make it work.

As an aside you should have told us you had already modified the machine with the network adapter. Someone might have figured it out faster. Good job figuring it out though.
