I don't like the idea, but I am a fan of Jackie Chan. Karate Kid was a classic, definitely shouldn't have chosen that name. Now it has a ton to live up to. Whoever decided on making this movie has some serious balls to call it Karate Kid and making it in friggin China. Talk about a dumb move.

This thing looks retarded. Most of us figured it would suck when we heard "Karate Kid Remake", the rest lost all hope when we heard "Jackie Chan and Will Smith's son".
On top of the aforementioned issues of setting it in China is the way they teach things over there. From having read a biography of Jackie Chan once upon a time, there are places that start teaching kids martial arts and drilling them hard really young. It's practically Spartan. I could stretch my disbelief enough to think that a scrappy kid could learn karate "the right way" and overcome the odds to beat some punk kids from California in the original. These guys should stomp a mudhole in Lil' Bow Wow 2.0 and walk it dry.

A movie that is retarded by design is much better to me than a really bad one that's supposed to be taken seriously. I got you beat on sitting through shit though; I had to see Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End WITHOUT SLEEPING AT ANY POINT because I was there with my office and sitting near my boss. There were at least 6 times I thought that piece of shit was over, only to have it keep dragging on. Man, I should have just lied and said I was swamped and couldn't leave my desk that day. :lol

I freaking loved that Karate Kid game.. I need to get on Ebay and get that game again. It was a pain in the ass though. Never made it past the storm level.
The new nightmare actually might turn out good.. I'm hoping they get rid of all the camp and make it scary again.

Having Jackie chan in this move as the "Mr. Miagi" teacher gives some hope.
I'm looking at this movie, not as a true remake, but more like the NEXT Karate kid set in modern day times and not a true remake of the classic 80's movies. A continuation if you will. As long as they are not trying to make any distinct ties between Jaden's and Ralph's characters, I dont see what the hating is all about. It's a totally new Karate Kid that just doesnt have a tie-in name like "Karate Kid: The black mamba" or some stupid shit like that.
Was there this much bitching when Hilary Swank took over the role back in 1994?
Though Pat Morita died back in 2005, I doubt they would have gone with him anyway because of what obvious age he would be at this point (he would be about 78 years old today). Jackie Chan is a good choice for a modernized Karate Kid movie.
Looking at it that way, I have no problem with Jaden Smith playing the role. Hopefully he can pull it off and not fuck up the franchise.
