Pau should have pushed for a 5 year deal... Once the Lakers fail to repeat at the end of the season, he's not going to have the leverage he has now.

Thank you Jerry West!

Couch-cushion money to Dr. Buss, and that will be one monster trade piece in the expiring year if they want it to be.

Pau's current deal goes through the end of the 2010-11 season. Three years is the maximum extension he can sign right now per the CBA. If he had waited until the end of this season he could have signed a 4 yr extension.

Very few players are worth max money to their teams. IMO, Pau has earned this extension from the Lakers.

How much of this money is going to Jerry West?

Crazy money. But, well deserved.

So he did get the max or he didn't? That LA Times article words it strangely.

Why should West get any of Pau's money? Just give him a ring if the Lakers win championships.

Ya, the joke was forced so badly that it really didn't make any sense.

So the actual deal is under 60 million? Not like the Lakers can really go after anyone, anyways.

According to that guy it's worth 56.9.

That's nice. 8 million less than first reported(Which is 16 million in Buss' pocket)

I would guess the $56.9M is the minimum he could earn, and the $64.7M the max with basic incentives such as playing 60 games... or making an All-Star team, or making the West Finals...

Nah, I'm pretty sure it's those numbers straight up. That 64.7 number was never the actual number, just what the LA times speculated. Stein says the new contract has a trader kicker though, his old contract didn't I guess.

here's the breakdown...

$18,714,150 in 2011-12,

$19,000,000 in 2012-13

$19,285,850 in 2013-14

Well every little bit helps. The lower it is the better the chances the Lakers spend more money elsewhere. Like resigning a Shannon Brown or Jordan Farmar. Or using the MLE again on a Free Agent.

Like resigning Jordan Farmar.

Pass. Even for the league minimum.

They gave him as much as reasonably possible..they couldn't give him less, keep him happy enough that he'll never talk about the collusion to anybody..

The Lakers record since the league's marketing adjustment: 101-23 in regular-season games with Gasol in the lineup.
Lakers will win 3 out of the next 5 championships, minimum.

PGDynasty24

that figure is wrong. They confirmed that it's 3 years 58 million! change the titles on. but still do what we must to keep him

Not bad I guess for the 2nd best player on a team that's going to be contending for titles for the foreseeable future.

agreed. it's surely not overpaid for Pau given the projected extension Kobe is gonna sign, which is supposed to be around the caliber of 30m a year according to some leaked sources.
