View Full Version : Have you ever changed teams?

When i was young, I was a Boston fan (80's), then Portland(90-93), and then settled on the suns in 93' (always liked Kj and Barkley going there was too much to resist, bandwagoner at first)... Will go down with the suns ship...

When I was young, I was obviously a bandwagoner until settling on the Suns. My case I grew up where there was no NBA team within 400 miles of me.

So is everyone a lifer here or has anyone else changed teams, why?

I changed teams when Rasho was traded. I root for whichever team he plays for.
I also rooted for the Magic simply because Hedo played for them.

I root for the Spurs because I am still a big fan of Manu and Tim.

No. Have always been a Spurs fan. I was born and raised in SA after all.

There have been other teams that interest me depending on their style of play, the character of their roster, or whatever. But I would never choose them over my team.

I remember van Breda Kolff abusing Chamberlain as a child on the B&W television in our basement. I felt bad for him and it just clicked.

I've never looked back.

I really think sometimes people take their fanhood too seriously where as I couldn't really give a shit. I mean I always felt that, even when "your" team wins what do you gain? You didn't win anything, they did. Although I won't dog on anybody who is into it saying "we beat you" or anything.

If the Mavs lost to the Spurs in the playoffs are anything, I wouldn't give two shits honestly. I really could care less about sports, as most people know I'm just here to fuck with sensitive people :lol

Laker til I die. Thinking about finding a new football team, being a Raider sucks.

The Chargers are pretty sick. They're my favorite team to watch.

Uni's are sick, their offense is entertaining, and it seems like a great place to play in Southern Cal

You have a trend going on here. A soon as Boston went south, you bailed, as soon as the Blazers went south, you bailed.

You're right, the suns have been perfect since 1993. :rolleyes You guys brains must be fried from last night.

I've been a Mavs fan since 1987, when I was a kid watching Aguirre, Blackman and Tarpley do their thing. The Sonics were my mistress in the nineties though. I bet everyone has had a basketball mistress from time to time.

:lol It would have to be the Chargers or Steelers. I should have done this years ago when Davis yanked the team from LA.

I think Raider fans should just boycott the games until Davis either dies or is forced to step down due to sheer embarassment.

Same thing with Jerry Jones

The only time I ever changed teams was in baseball. I was a huge Mets fan as a kid because of Doc Gooden and since San Antonio didn't have a team. Once I found out he was a crackhead, I got pissed and switched to the Dodgers, and they've been my favorite team since.

I take it back; I changed teams in college ball too. Georgetown was always my favorite team growing up, but obviously I'm going to now cheer for the school I went to (UCLA).

Spurs is the only team I root for.

Been a fan since 1992, when I "discovered" David Robinson while watching the pre-olympic tournament in Portland.

I'm not from North America, so the only guys I new about were Isiah, Magic, Bird, Jordan, Pippen, Drexler.........

I never jumped on the Bulls/Lakers bandwagon; tough times when those 2 teams were dominating, but I couldn't switch team, it would have been too easy

In other leagues:

- Montreal Canadiens (easy one, I live in Montreal)
- Patriots
- Red Sox

Spurs since 01' playoffs, mostly due to the fact my friend was a laker fan and I felt like rooting for the other team in their playoff series lol

Watched basketball very sparingly before, so didn't really have a team, but have been following the NBA and the Spurs religiously since then.

I became a Cavaliers fan during the 1984-85 season when George Karl led them from a 2-19 start to the eighth seed, where they played well in a first-round loss to the Celtics. But I became a fan for life with Price, Daugherty, Nance, Harper and those guys. Before those teams came along I couldn't imagine the Cavaliers actually being good.

I do enjoy watching other teams from time to time when they play a style I found entertaining. I used to like watching the early '90s Sonics, the Kings with Vlade, Webber and Jason Williams, and the Clippers when they had Brand, Darius Miles, Jeff McGinnis, Corey Maggette etc. I've never adopted another team as my own, but I've had my basketball goomars.

I've hated the Celtics and Lake Show for as long as I've liked the Cavaliers. :king

I've been a blazer fan in thick and thin as long as I can remember. Howevwer I was also rooting for shaq and pennys magic for a bit but never stopped on the blazers. I was a big magic johnson fan towards his end(I was too young for his prime) but I was just a fan of him, not so much the lakers.. and for football I was for the raiders cause I hate the seachickens so damn much haha

I like the old Cowboys jerseys because they mostly resemble those NFC pro bowl jerseys nowadays

But Chargers look the coolest in the NFL IMO.

The Chargers' powder-blues are sweet, but it'd be cool if they broke out their Air Coryell-era uniforms at some point, because those are definitely underrated.

Not exactly...
In the early 90's it was easy to watch basketball in Europe via satellite because of the Bulls hype. Still, I didn't like them so I always rooted for the Magic. In the mid 90's basketball was banned from public TV and one was only able to watch it via pay-tv. With the Internet becoming more and more popular I managed to follow the NBA a little. Despite still being a Magic fan, the Spurs became my favorite pretty soon.

I love the Spurs and I like the Magic, so I never really changed teams.
I do have some other teams I like like the Thunder and Bobcats but those teams change based on the player they currently have.

i liked the jazz over the bulls during the jordan era. i didn't live in the U.S. at the time, so i just got mostly bulls game because networks outside the US hadn't yet widely broadcast NBA games. i remember waking up at 4am just to watch one of the finals games live but i couldn't really follow any NBA teams. then it's been pretty much the spurs since i received two shiny tim duncan rookie cards and moved back to the US.

I'm Portland born and raised so I was a Blazers fan when I was young. Then I saw a Spurs/Bulls game during David Robinson's rookie year and I became interested in the Spurs. Over the next couple years, I became more of a Spurs fan and less of a Blazers fan to the point where I hated the Blazers for most of the 90's. I'm still a Spurs fan first and foremost but I do root for the Blazers and/or the Lakers so long as they're not playing the Spurs.

When you say "widely considered the most annoying people on earth"... please define "widely condisered". You have factual data to prove your point or are you once again just flappin the lips and projecting your own opinion as one of the masses? I'm guessing the latter.

I started following football and basketball in the early/mid 90's. Because of my location, you were a Mavericks/Cowboys fan by default. I was a fair weather of both of these through my childhood, but things changed after I got into middle school...when my cousin moved up here from Houston. Since we were very close and spent a lot of time together I started following the Rockets and Oilers.

Watching the Dream developed my love for the game and the dominant big man...so I was naturally drawn to the Spurs after Duncan was drafted. I pretty much had dual fanship for a while but I found myself more and more of a Spurs fan as I loved the way they played the game and the way the organization carried themselves with humility and class. Seeing them fall short in the early 2000's and then tasting the championship in '03 sealed me as a fan forever.

Though it's not popular among my brethren, I still like the Rockets. They are the only other team I would want to win a title if the Spurs could not.
