I voted today after NBA TV reminded the fans that they are sometimes idiots. As of today, Tim isn't a starter...but Iverson is. Seriously, what has Iverson done this year to be on the All Star team, much less a starter? Tim has been a work horse since the start of the season. So if you haven't voted, Duncan needs your vote!

there is no SF and PF in the All Star game. If Dirk and Duncan won the voting and Amare won the Centre position then the lineup would be Dirk, Duncan, Amare.... All 3 of them. It's just "Forward".

so whats the update on votes?

when it was last updated on new years eve, Tim was about 60,000 votes behind Dirk for the 2nd starting position... Seems like a lot, but the voting returns a couple weeks earlier had him 30,000 behind Pau and he overtook Pau in 2 weeks and caught up to Dirk by about 35,000 votes so who knows! Thats why every vote counts! Just make sure you dont vote for Pau or Dirk.

His value hasn't gone up despite the numbers he's putting up. ESPN won't show Spurs highlights, so most people don't realize his value. The only chance Timmy has to start is if McGrady gives his spot to him.

Cosign with Ray on this one.

"Allen thinks commissioner David Stern should consider a rule mandating that a player appear in a minimum number of games to be eligible.
"Tracy, if he played, I'm sure he'd play well enough to be an All-Star player, because he's done that his career," Allen said. "But again, that's taking away from another player in the Western Conference that's having a great year, that's been playing, that deserves to be in there."

Bukefal

Yeah, he is right. Its just not fair for Tmac to be in there. If such things happen, NBA should take in their hands.

Love is defenseless, a self promoter and he plays for on one of the worst teams in the league. He has no business being in the All-Star game and neither does Griffin.

Anthony, Duncan, Durant, Gasol, Nowitzki and Odom, should comprise the Wests' front court, with Bryant, Ginobili, Parker, Paul, Westbrook and Williams, in the back court.

TD 21

only one of them will get voted in by the coaches, you can count on that...

and BTW you didn't include a center. Andrew Bynum might start at center based on the LA area's 20 million-plus fanbase. That'll eliminate hopefully Odom since the Lakers shouldn't get 4 all stars especially considering their somewhat unimpressive record. The coaches will probably choose another West center instead of 6 guards which will eliminate either Tony or Manu.

Ginobili is a lock. Parker is 50/50. If they feel obligated to go with another big, he won't make it. If they go with a sixth guard, it's between him and Nash.

I did include a center; two, in fact. Duncan and Gasol. Yao will win the fan vote, only he won't be able to play due to injury. So what will inevitably happen is Gasol will slide to center and Nowitzki will be inserted into the starting lineup by the coach. Then the coaches will select Duncan as the backup center (he's listed as a forward on the ballot, but coaches can pick a player based on the position they primarily play and after Gasol, Duncan is the clear cut best center option in the West). That will allow them to forgo selecting a token true center and free up one more spot for a more deserving forward or guard.

I think this is the first time ever i havent voted in the All-Star ballot... it was hard to summon the effort when i saw Yao, Bynum and Haywood heading the list for Centers.

Do you even know the rules? If the fans vote in Andrew Bynum the coaches won't be able to get him out of the starting lineup no matter what unless Bynum himself relinquishes the spot, Iverson style.

Bynum and Nowitzki will make starters and that's that. Tim and Gasol will get voted in by the coaches for sure, but beyond that nobody's a lock. Griffin won't make it because he's a rookie and coaches don't vote in rookies and besides he'll be participating in the rookie game as well as the slam dunk contest. Love is a candidate the coaches might consider because of his numbers alone.

Counting in Bynum, Nowitzki, Durant, Bryant, Anthony, Paul, Williams, Duncan, Gasol, and Westbrook that's ten players -- four guards, five forwards and one center. The coaches could use Duncan or Gasol as a center and the other as a forward, making it 4-4-2. That leaves the two wildcards and I doubt the coaches'll make room for both Manu and Tony. Unless Tony breaks out in the next 3-4 weeks I don't see him on the all-star team. They're almost compelled to go with another SF, PF or center instead of two guards.

Do you (don't bother answering, this is a rhetorical question . . . that means I already know the answer)?

The fans aren't "voting in Bynum", because Yao is inevitably going to run away with the vote. But because he's done for the season, he won't play. So what will happen is Gasol will slide to center and Nowitzki will be inserted into the starting lineup by the coach. As far as backup center goes, coaches are permitted to select a player based on the position they primarily play, even if they're listed on the ballot at another position. Duncan fits the bill. The only true center with a chance to make it is Chandler.

Plenty of players are locks. Of the twelve I listed, only Parker and Odom aren't locks.
