View Full Version : Dampier questions Carl Landry's toughness

The last time the Mavericks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=dal) and Rockets (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=hou) tangled, Houston forward Carl Landry (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3217) left some of his teeth in Dirk Nowitzki's (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=609) elbow. The nasty collision left Nowitzki with stitches, while Landry required emergency, five-hour dental work.

Both players missed one game, returning four nights later. Coincidentally, both players scored 27 points in their respective games. Nowitzki continues to wear a big, puffy elbow pad for protection. Landry showed up with a a set of brand-new chompers. Pretty tough huh?

Mavericks center Erick Dampier (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=181), not known as much of a trash talker, didn't seem impressed on Wednesday with Landry's quick recovery.

"Is he tough? We don’t know if he’s tough," Dampier said. "We just know he got his teeth knocked out. I mean there’s still a question about his toughness. We’ll see how he plays tomorrow."

Ericka Dampier is talking about toughness? Landry was shot and he came back to play. He lost teeth and was bleeding in the mouth, but he came back to play. While Dirk was rolling on the floor, Carl was calm as can be.

Of course, Dampier has a bit of a score to settle with the Rockets. He was ejected in the 116-108 overtime loss at the AAC on Dec. 18 after he was flagrantly fouled by Houston guard Aaron Brooks during the overtime. The refs reviewed the play to see if Dampier had swung an elbow at Brooks after the play. They determined he had and nailed Dampier with a technical foul, his second of the game, resulting in an automatic ejection.

Houston, we have a problem. The refs actually never should have reviewed the play because by rule a Flagrant 1 foul is non-reviewable. So Dampier should not have garnered the technical and he shouldn't have been ejected.
How does he have a score to settle with the Rockets? It was the dumbass officials that cheated us in that game.

It's not smart to call out Landry, dude is tough, but if he backs it up like he did against Parker than I am all for this. Plus the Mavs have a habit of sleepwalking through games they should win, they need something to energize them a bit.

As for the Spurfans calling Damp soft, whatever. The guy has a lot of things to dislike, but he is one of the strongest and toughest players in the league. I wish he could play like this for two more years, it's hard to find a 7footer who protects the rim like he does.

Rockets and Adleman going with the law of averages. If Ariza continues to jack em up, eventually he might start hitting 39 percent of his shots instead of 38 percent and maybe eventually get it up to 40 percent. :rolleyes

Im kind of confused of how dampier backed up his talking against parker.... the entire spurs team sucked that game and Parker was the leading scorer and Dampier had like 3 points and 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Sounds like a typical Dampier game to me. Parker was the high scorer for the Spurs so I am just wondering how that means Dampier backed up his talk... please explain. I missed the game so maybe more happened in the game but judging by the boxscore its not like Parker did terrible.

hahah ok... I find it hard to believe Dampier was the reason the Spurs got shut down.

Dampier needs to just stop opening his mouth cause every time he does, something stupid comes out of it. Maybe he should actually back up his toughness comments with more than 3 points and 5 rebounds and 1 block...... best center in the west?

Dirk put up a monster game too... they all showed some toughness out there tonight.

The Rockets is the wrong team to question toughness. They are the toughest team in the league considering the players we have. We have won 20 games on toughness so Dampier has no clue what the hell he is talking about. The Mavs are soft and everyone knows it. Its time to stop denying it.

I agree... It had nothing to do with Dampiers "interior defense." The entire spurs team sucked judging by the box score and the amount of minutes played by the bench. When the bench plays more minutes than the starters, you know its because its just a terrible game all around.
