The Nuggets admittedly gave the Spurs their best.
And Ive read so much on how BAD the Spurs played last night.
And still, We came a few free throws, and two easy Duncan shots short on Sunday.
So I wecome anyone who writes anything on how bad the Spurs play, b/c that just shows that even though the Spurs, minus Manu and Nazr, played like shit we still barley lost. More importantly the Nuggets barley won....they know how hard it was for them to come out on top last night.
The Spurs know they had a bad game, but the Nuggets know they had a really great one.
And when the Spurs come into the game on Wed. and play like they know they can, Nuggets at their best cannot beat the Spurs.

I don't think the Nuggets played exceptionally well, but clearly they had more intensity than the Spurs. I do think that this loss is more about what the Spurs didn't do rather than what the Nuggets did do. Missed easy shots, silly turnovers, lack of energy, insufficient control at the point.

Give it to the MVP of the game..... Eva Longoria... She knows how to control the Spurs at the point.... ;)

Agreed... Our defense was great, but our offense was far from clicking right. Give the credit to Spurs stellar defense, but we missed shots we usually don't also.
I've been lurking here for some time now, and someone, in another thread stated that the Nugs play a "low assist" style.
Beg to differ, but if you've been following the Nugs recently you should know that we've been breaking some records and setting the bar on assists per game... There were games where we reached 40 assists for 40+ buckets.
Sure this tend to get lower when you play a top defensive squad like the Spurs, but we can torch most teams if we get in our groove...

I don't think was the Nuggets best at all. Boykins didn't have a great game. Najera didn't play. Their shooting guards combined for next to nothing. They only had 12 fast break points. The Nuggets can and will play a lot better. They aren't pushovers. However, Andre did have his best half of his lifetime.

Not true!!! We did not not give the Spurs are best. We played hard and well but not our best. At home you will see the Nuggets at their best. Running, Gunning, and K-Mart Dunking.

Remember Game 1 First round on 03? That loss to Suns's just the same as now's loss to Nugs, still we won championship... Relax...

Well if it wasnt the Nuggets best, it was sure close. It was, however, nowhere near the Spurs best.

It was the best that Denver can do at San Antonio.
They can play better at home.
SA will kill them on Wednesday and then they will beat them on Sat in Denver.

Nuggetsin6, I went to the University of Cincinnati, so I know Kenyon's game very well. Great college baller, a good pro player...but cursed in the postseason when it counts most. He'll choke.

Wasn't it Camby and Andre Miller that destroyed the Spurs?
Kenyon is just going to play physical ball and get into Manu, Parker and Bowen's head. As you can see, he was very successful.

If Kidd had never had played with him, if he didnt rack up all those flagrant fouls a few seasons ago, and if he didn't kick and scream when he dunked, no one would know who this guy is. Martin is one of those athletic guys with no real skills.

Nuggets fan here. Don't want to start any flame wars or tick people off. . . but I can promise you that you didn't see Denver's best last night. Kori nailed it, it was about as well as Dre can play for a half.
I'm not sure if any of our other players had what I'd call an above average game. Camby rebounded well, like usual, but didn't make the open 20 footer from the top of the key like he usually does.
Person, Boykins and Buckner combined for 4-14. Our ball movement was non existent. We had 12 assists last night. For the month of April, the Nuggets average 26.5 assists per game. In fact, it broke a 21 game streak of at least 20 assists in a game. The last time we had this poor of ball movement? Against the Spurs on the road in the game we came back in.
The Spurs D has a lot to do with that, I'm not taking anything away from you guys. I wouldn't be surprised to see if the Spurs won this series. Wouldn't even be surprised to see em win it in 6. (I'd be in absolute shock if it went less than 6)
But to say Denver played even close to their best last night is really missing the point. We didn't even come close to our best. We missed as many easy shots in the fourth as you guys did. Wide open ten footers. Driving layups. With the score 83-81 Spurs (or something in that range) the Nuggets had SEVEN chances to tie the score and failed on the first six.
It was a physical, draining game for both teams and they played like it in the fourth.
Good luck to you guys the rest of the way. You've got a great team and if Duncan was healthy, I think you are the best team this league has to offer. You don't need to bash the other franchise to get that point across.
FWIW, I don't think Tim is even close to healthy. It wasn't the missed shots last night, it was his overall movement. If he doesn't get any more pep in his step, you guys are in serious trouble here. This Nugget team isn't a true "7". Thinking you saw their best last night is living in some sort of a dreamworld.

Ok..ok. What I was trying to acomplish with this thread is to get all the "Spurs fans" about to jump off the Spurs bandwagon and jump on to whoever ESPN or TNT is saying is playing hott bandwagon, to calm down. The Spurs had a bad game and the Nuggets had a good one. Yet the game was still close. We all know the Spurs are a better team, when they are playing well no matter how good the Nuggets play

Not with a hobbled Duncan we don't. If Duncan were healthy, you'd ice the Nuggets in five without batting an eye.
You'd ice EVERY team in basketball without batting an eye.
But with him hurting and not himself, Denver matches up with you guys very well.
And you must have missed my point. . . the Nuggets, by no stretch of the imagination had a good game. They had a good 35 seconds at the end of the first half and they were a little less worse than you were in the final quarter. If you come by the Nuggets board and listen to the true fans (not the SPURS SUCK, WE RULE!!! jackasses) you'll find that the reason most of us are excited is that we didn't play well and still won.

WTF. Are you out of ur mind? Kenyon Martin is a very good player and without him the nuggets would have not gotten this far. K-Mart brings an intensity with him that many players don't have. He is a winner. He fits the Nuggets system great which is run the opponent to death. You will be able to see this when Denver plays at home. Can Duncan gard K-Mart in the open court? I don't think so. Martin may not have the low post game Duncan has or the fundamentals but he is a good rebounder, good defender, and causes turnovers.

Nature of the playoffs. You guys win in game two and there will be Nuggets fans ready to leap off of bridges and I'll be the one calming them down.
I feel sorry for you guys. This Nuggets team is the best #7 seed in the history of the playoffs. This is really a second round matchup you guys are playing in the first round. And you're doing it with your star player hobbling on one good ankle.
What you really need is a nice, easy series. Instead you get a scorching hot bunch of cocky players who are too stupid to realize they shouldn't be able to win a close game in the final minutes in SA. Good luck the rest of the way.

LOL.
I fully expect a Spurs win on Wednesday night. It's going to be interesting to see how the Nuggets react. The Spurs are going to play desperate. The Nuggets should be relaxed and confident.
While I don't expect the Nuggets to win this game, I'd love to see the Nuggets come out and play like it's game #7. I want to see Denver pushing the pace the entire game again. Getting physical and staying uber agressive. We do that, I'll be happy with whatever result the game ends in.

All i can say, im not worried other yrs i would be f****n terrified. i think the nuggets gave them their best, if you look at match ups dunc-kmart, manu-dj, park-miller, nazr-camby, melo-bowen...obviously on a consistent basis i expect duncan, manu to outscore their match ups and if parker gets his act together he can shutdown and outscore miller. nazr n camby will cancel each other out and ofcourse melo will outscore bb but hopefully not significantly.
I think if the spurs play defense like they did they will be fine. i know TD is hurt but i have followed TD throughout his career and i know that he may be 50% or whatever but he will not shoot 7-20something.
other than miller i dont see anyone on the nuggets that can kill us. Please wake up spurs 2005 nba champions.

Denver's best, beat San Antonio's worst by 6. That will sink in with bandwagon fans after the Spurs win on Wednesday.
Please come back to this when the Nuggets win another game in the series, OK?
All of you who keep thinking Denver played their best are either major homers or haven't ever seen a single Nugget game. Watch the fourth quarter objectively and look at how many open shots the Nuggets missed and tell me we played our best.
That's about as idiotic as a Nugget homer saying we are going to sweep you or that we'll hold Tim to 7-22 all series.

San Antonio will adjust. Have faith. I'm hoping for the same in our case.
