Such a good win. Veteran execution down the stretch to pull away.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is how to win on the road.

well a win is a win but I just don't understand why we're making things so difficult. Early on we were making a lot of jumpers, but when they stopped falling (except for RMJ) I felt it was time to post up Timmy instead of just jacking up 20 footers every possession.
Take the win though, tomorrow will be a good test, Toronto isn't too shabby.

Toronto will be on a back2back too. They're losing to depleted celtic team. They will be hungry.

Spurs 97, Wizards 86
WASHINGTON -- Tim Duncan scored 23 points and reserve Roger Mason Jr. added a season-high 20 to lead the San Antonio Spurs to their fifth straight victory on Saturday night, 97-86 over the Washington Wizards, who remained enveloped in a gun controversy surrounding Gilbert Arenas.
Tony Parker had 12 points for the Spurs, whose winning streak matches a season high. San Antonio has won four straight on the road and nine in a row against the Wizards.
Duncan's jump-hook gave the Spurs an 81-80 lead with 6:21 left in the game, and he followed that with two free throws as part of a decisive 12-2 run.
Caron Butler scored 24 points and Arenas added 23 for the Wizards, who have dropped four straight. Antawn Jamison had 17 points and nine rebounds.
Arenas did not comment before the game on investigations by the NBA, U.S. Attorney's Office and District of Columbia police over allegations that he stored unloaded firearms in his locker in the team's Verizon Center locker room.
Arenas missed five of his first seven attempts from the floor before hitting a running 37-footer as time expired at the end of the first quarter.
Wizards coach Flip Saunders hinted at changes in the wake of a slipshod defensive effort in Tuesday's home loss to Oklahoma City, then made only minor adjustments: inserting Andray Blatche at forward in place of guard Randy Foye and moving swingman Butler from guard to forward.
Washington responded by quickly falling behind 18-10 as Duncan made his first four shots from the field. The Wizards used a 10-0 run in the second quarter to erase the lead, going ahead 43-40 when Butler scored on a layup with 5:47 left in the first half and followed it with a 19-foot jumper.
Arenas had six points as the Wizards used an 11-2 run late in the third quarter to take a 71-66 lead. San Antonio was limited to one field goal in the final 4:44 of the period -- Keith Bogans' follow of Mason's miss to make it 71-70 with less than a second remaining.
Game notes
Saunders said before the game he was counting on C Brendan Haywood for a strong defensive effort against the Spurs. But by the time 9 1/2 minutes had elapsed, Haywood was on the bench with two fouls. His replacement, Fabricio Oberto, had picked up two personals barely two minutes into the second quarter. ... Washington last defeated the Spurs on Nov. 12, 2005. ... Butler twice forced jump balls by tying up Duncan in the second half. ... The Spurs improved to 4-9 when trailing after three periods.

Yeah...at least we will both be in the same boat. The Knicks were off the day before when we did the short back to back against them a week ago.

Indeed. They are an explosive offensive team.
They are and it's actually incredible how they've done it. From being severely limited offensively just a year and a half ago to being loaded. Most impressively, they did this with limited trade assets, low draft picks and savvy free agent signings. In other words, they did it in typical Spurs fashion.

Getting healthy solved a lot of this.
Their biggest problem now is that their core is not really a contending core, with their chemistry problems and lack of interest on defense. They have some nice players but it has never really come together for them. Arenas and Jamison's contracts are going to cripple them going forwards as far as adding pieces goes. They may be forced to trade Butler at the deadline for expirings if they plan to be a competitor in 2010.

As I said before the game, this wasn't going to be a gimme in any way..
Flip Saunders called out the Wizards after last game, even before the gun incident..add the fact that they'll be trying to take away attention from the negativity and that they have weapons..also, the Spurs clearly didn't put too much effort into this until the 4th..
we still have some glaring problems, but on the right track..

btw, I didn't mean to make a joke with the "weapons" comment, I guess shit just happens like that..

Good win. We just need to come out to play for all 48 minutes... can't be slacking off on defense until the last 6 mins...

Very nice game by Mason. Ginobli was flat, but is clearly in good form. Parker went into a slump on both sides of the court for 2nd & 3rd quarter, but finished well.
The Wizards were playing pretty well and have a lot of firepower. Nice to see the defense shut that down in the 4th. That is starting to resemble the Spurs I know.

And BTW, Bogans provided good hustle, defense and rebounding at the end there.
Even if he's not scoring, he's making a difference. Props to him for that.

Not really. Even healthy, with the way the Spurs are limiting the minutes of the big three more than ever, that wouldn't have been enough.
Now I'm confused. My comments were about the Spurs, not the Wizards. I agree with your comments about the Wizards, though.
