View Full Version : The Mathematical Formula to 40,000 career points

F_U_Buddy
01-04-2010, 09:16 PM
15. Kobe Bryant: 24815
14. Jerry West: 25192
13. Reggie Miller: 25279
12. Alex English: 25613
11. John Havlicek: 26395
10. Dominique Wilkins: 26668
9. Oscar Robertson: 26710
8. Hakeem Olajuwon: 26946
7. Elvin Hayes: 27313
6. Moses Malone: 27409
5. Shaquille O'Neal: 27921
4. Wilt Chamberlain: 31419
3. Michael Jordan: 32292
2. Karl Malone: 36928
1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: 38387

Before the season is done he should just about pass John Havlicek for that 11th spot. He's 31 right now so assuming he plays about 8 more seasons and averages 24 ppg over the course of that span and plays atleast 75 games he'd end up with 14, 440 more points. Add the 1300 or so points he'll likely score for the rest of this season and that'd put him at a career total of just over 40,000 and 1st all-time.

Now I hate to be a muthafucker about this but Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitski, Steve Nash, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, T-mac, Yao Ming, Allen Iverson, and others aren’t being mentioned in this same breath. So when you start talking about the greatest Laker ever or the NBA’s top 5 please spare us the embarrassment if Kobe isn’t in the top 3 greatest players of all time.
I see 7 titles and 40,000 career points this reasoning is called The Formula.

He will average in the mid/upper-20ppg for about the next five seasons. Then age will rob him of his athleticism and he will be strictly a shooter...which he will probably allow him to hang around 15ppg for the next few seasons. He's got a shot at catching Kareem if he stays healthy, but he won't get close to breaking 40,000. Random fun fact....Jordan averaged over 30ppg in 8 seasons in his career. Bryant has only done it 3 times.

TBQH, I don't think Kobe will play long enough to break even Kareem's mark...or possibly even Jordan's. He will likely retire in his mid-30's after he realizes he is no longer good enough to be the man.

Doubt it, Lebron James relies on his ability to bulldoze his way to the hoop, after 34 years of age he won't have that ability anymore and is going to rely mostly on jumpshots. Which he needs work on.

I recall a story of a young boy, Foolish Utterances, named for his babbling nonsense as an infant. Obsessed with Chief Dark Snake, Foolish Utterances was eager to impress him. One day a group had returned from hunting with their kill, a great deer. Young Foolish Utterances took a rock and began pounding on the dead carcass hoping to prove his courage. Amidst the laughter, Chief Dark Snake ordered him to stop as all he was doing was abusing his dinner. And when I say "Foolish Utterances" I mean F_U_Buddy. I agree that he won't average 24 and has virtually no shot at Kareem's record (which is an astonishing record) but why would you doubt he will not play til he is 40. This is Kobe we are talking about. The guy's heart is a basketball. Kobe IMO is going to hang on WAY to long and embarrass himself in the latter part of his career because he can't live without it.
