We clearly need Budinger tonight, Gasol out I think, Artest could possibly return, and Odom with a stomach virus, but probably will play. Do you guys think Bynum will dominate tonight?

Bynum's been very disappointing against Hayes so far. Gotta give that man some 6'5 credit defending 7 footers.

Sooner or later though, Bynum will drop 40 on Hayes....hopefully tonight :lol

With one "revenge" game paid in full on Sunday, I would like to think the Lakers win this one in close fashion. However, the last time we faced Houston--the Rockets flat out played with more energy, heart, and hustle. If the Lakers had 1/3 of those intrinsic qualities, we'd probably have 3 less losses and be less maddening. Here's to a good game, Rocketfan.

Rockets had no chance to beat the Lakers last year. With Yao in the lineup, they were 1-2 in the playoffs and 0-4 in the regular season. Since Yao went out, they're 3-3. However, they did solve how to play small ball in LA in November, so let's see what happens. A playoff rematch would be fun, Rockets would have nothing to lose, again. I expect Houston to be aggressive tonight. If LA can't match their intensity, they can be beaten. If Lakers man up and play to their potential, kiss the west goodbye.

The interesting thing about Yao Ming is that he actually makes the Rockets an easier team to defend for the Lakers.

His sheer size and presence means less guard penetration and more of a traditional halfcourt offense, which the Lakers are infinitely more capable of guarding.

I think one of the main reasons the Rockets were so competitive during last year's playoffs was because Yao went out. The Lakers simply had no answer for Aaron Brooks who was given free reign to penetrate and probe on just about every possession.

When you look at Odom and Bynum's size then you look at Scola and Landry, then +15 should be the standard. Don't get me wrong, having Ron Ron out there increments dramatically the Lakers defensive game. But Rockets just couldn't hit a 3 tonight, which they normally do.

Actually Yao said he was excited about the new style of play of the Rockets. Last year he said they did more traditional pick and roll for T-Mac but Adleman insisted this year that they fully commit to the motion offense. It'll be interesting to see how Yao fits in the new uptempo offense.

Bynum can say whatever he wants about him being comfortable with or without Pau but the truth is he wants the paint area all to himself. It's blatantly obvious how much more comfortable he is playing alongside Odom.

It's about touches. Clearly when Pau is playing Bynum is the 3rd option. With Pau out he becomes number 2 and you could see the Lakers made the effort to get him involved. When he "gets it" he will realize that if he is on the court with Pau his primary responsibility should be to crash the boards and defend. Without Pau he is an automatic 20-10 guy. With Pau it's just not going to happen.

He doesn't care about defensive rebounds. When shots go up, you will see Bynum already sprinting down the other way for easy buckets.

Some players are offensive minded, some are defensive minded. Dwight Howard, Joakim Noah and Ben Wallace are defensive minded bigs. They're the type that take pride in playing defense, blocking shots and cleaning up misses. Bynum is offensive minded. He enjoys scoring more than anything else. In fact, his defensive game relies heavily on how many touches he gets in the game. Shaq sums it up perfectly with his words "if you don't feed the dog, he won't guard the house."

I think Bynum rebounding is all about effort. I always see him getting beat to rebounds by smaller players. But when he plays against Shaq/Duncan/Legit big man, he really works on boxing out and making sure he does well out there....
First game he ends up with 3 boards and the Lakers lose, Phil is gonna gt on his lazy ass...
It's a shame too because he has the size to really be beasting the boards out there.

Come on, Allan, that's the same excuse the kid made when Gasol was gobbling up all those rebounds a couple of weeks ago.

Both teams shot well below their average...there were way more than 20 rebounds to be grabbed.

I can't even begin to count the times I've seen him turn around and start trotting down to the other side of the court when the ball is still in the air.

And with his size and skills, there is no way ANYONE short of a Dwight Howard should ever get the better of him.

Bitching about Bynum's rebounding statistic tonight, after a W, where the Lakers out rebounded Houston by 14 has to be one of the dumbest things ever.

Lamar was grabbing defensive boards ---> then pushing the ball up the floor because he's a point forward and the Lakers want him grabbing those D boards.

Bynum was not getting beat on the boards at all tonight. Any defensive board he could have gotten went into Lamar Odom's hands. What's the problem here? Basketball is a team fucking game.

Yeah I understand why it happens, but it's still pretty ridiculous.

For example, even the Clippers have played 15 road games. I'll be interested to see if there is any disparity between the LAC and LAL home/away numbers come Feb/Mar.

It's not really too bad when you compare it with other similarly affected teams. Like the Spurs are affected by the Rodeo so they've only played 13 road games. After tonight's "road game", the Lakers will have 12 and the Spurs 13 road games.

Both the Lakers and Spurs have ALOT of road games coming up so the price will be paid for that early home heavy schedule.

I've heard alot said about the Lakers getting a favorable home schedule because they're a big market team. But the Spurs are one of the smallest markets and they're right there with the Lakers.

It's nothing more than scheduling around Arena events in January/February, no grand Stern conspiracy here.
