Ok so they have signed a couple of pitchers and an over the hill 3rd baseman that can't hit for shit.

Sounds like Ed Wade. Anything less that 90 losses will be a successful season in my book.

Brett Myers will be a good signing if he can get back into form. He is a good strikeout pitcher.

I dont give a shit what these mother fuckers do off the field, as long as they show up to play when we need them. I bet half of the league beats their wives, takes roids, drugs, rapes women, watching child porn etc...Point is we really dont know we are rooting for day in day out.

Group interested in Astros identified (http://houston.astros.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100112&content_id=7907974&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou)
Reportedly includes former USOC chief Schiller

HOUSTON -- One day after Astros owner Drayton McLane acknowledged he had granted a 30-day exclusive negotiating window to sell the team to a New York investment banking company, a report has identified the group as Great Court Capital.

According to a report by KRIV-TV in Houston, the New York-based company's effort is headed by lead negotiator Mark Isaacson and the group also includes former United States Olympic Committee chief Harvey Schiller.

"Dr. Schiller has known Drayton McLane a number of years, and he has nothing but the utmost respect for what he's done with the Astros and the Houston community," Joe Favorito, a spokesman for Schiller, said in a statement to MLB.com. "With regards to negotiations of a sale or a potential sale, it's not appropriate for us to comment."

McLane on Monday downplayed the agreement, saying it wasn't an indication a sale of the team was imminent and maintained he's not actively trying to sell the team. He said the exclusive negotiating window ends at the end of January.

"We've said from time to time people come to us, and they asked, 'If we can raise a certain amount of money, would you be interested in selling the Houston Astros?' And I said, 'Sure,' " McLane said Monday. "We gave them an exclusive window."

Schiller, 70, is the former president of Turner Sports, executive director and secretary general of the USOC and former commissioner of the Southeastern Conference.

McLane said he doesn't have any other parties currently interested in buying the team. Last month, he revealed he had a handshake agreement with Houston businessman Jim Crane following the 2008 season to sell the team, but said the deal fell through because of Crane's concerns about the economy.

McLane bought the Astros for $117 million in 1993 and has seen the franchise advance to the playoffs six times, including its first World Series berth in 2005. The Astros moved into Minute Maid Park in 2000 and last year celebrated their 10th season in the downtown ballpark. Forbes last year estimated the club is worth $445 million.

Last season, the Astros had a club-record payroll of around $107 million and finished in fifth place in the National League Central. McLane said this year's payroll will be around $95 million.

A month, I hope you are right because a month is TOOOO Long!! The guy cant play at the big league level. He seems scared up there. The only time he does good is during spring training or when he was a call up that wasnt going to lose his job. Q shouldnt even be a Major league player. Looking forward to the game tonight, Stros' fans.

Giants have a new look lineup that has to produce better if they're to have any chance of getting into the playoffs.

Some things I'm looking forward to:

Where will Tim Lincecum's velocity be? There have been rumblings that he's lost a bit off his fastball.

Can Bowker/Derosa/Huff (all new starters) give the Giants some power in addition to Sandoval and Molina?

Is Oswalt healthy enough to pitch like the Roy we know so well? Will this be another injury plagued season?

Petey (Pedro Feliz) in an Astros jersey. Wonder where he'll hit in the order?

Will Affeldt and Wilson continue to be one of the better setup/closer combos in the NL?

I can't lie, other than Carlos Lee and Kaz Matsui, I don't really know shit about
Houston's other position players. Power? Speed? How's the Pen?

I love opening day, GO GIANTS!

Yeah man I am looking foward to it but the team is rebuilding and got a lot younger. Berkman is still on the DL so Chris Johnson, our young 3rd base prospect made the roster. He shows a lot of promise. He hit 8 homers in spring training. He might not play though, which sucks. Pence will do what he does. Roy O should be back to better for but im afraid he will never be the stud he used to be but I still am hopeful. Our Catcher situation sucks as we have been discussing. Our Shortstop is a rookie but a bad ass defender but mediocre on the bat. Blum is taking over at 1st till Berk comes back and he sucks. We signed Pedro Feliz for 3rd base from Philly in the off season. Not great but not too bad either. Bourne will be in CF and he will get on base and steal a few. So if I were you guys I wouldnt be worried.

I know Pedro pretty well since he was a longtime Giant. He's still capable,IMO, of being a 15-18 hr / 65-85 RBI type of guy. The problem with him at the plate is, as it always has been, swinging at bad pitches/striking out. Can still be clutch with the bat, however, as he proved with the Phils in the WS. He's excellent with the glove and has a cannon for an arm, so defense won't be a problem. He's also capable of playing multiple positions, in case the Johnson kid hits really well and forces his way into the lineup.

Hate to see Lance being out for so long, hope he gets back in the lineup soon.

Always liked Oswalt. Timmy gets compared to him a lot. Nothing better than watching two top-notch starters going at it. Although I would love to see the Giants score a bunch of runs, I'd be just as happy to watch a pitchers duel tonight.

Good luck on the season for your 'Stros, ATRAIN

Dr. Gonzo
04-05-2010, 07:28 PM
I found it amusing that one of the big compliments for Matsui during the spring was his ability to draw a walk more often. It's fine to draw walks but being second in the lineup I would rather see more base hits than staring at pitches trying to draw walks.

Drayton should just sell the fucking team already, because his incompetence is on full display. Blow up the team, trade Oswalt, Wandy, Berkman, because that fatass of a slob Carlos Lee is happy being less than mediocre, so he won't want to go anywhere. And trade Pence too, cuz he swings at everything! I now know what a Clippers fan feels like.

What a bullshit exaggeration. The Clippers have NEVER been relevant. The Astros had a nice stretch from the late 90's to about 3 seasons ago where they were always a good team. There is gonna be a few down years but you can't talk dumb shit like that. Being a Houston sports fan you should be used to rooting for a team that almost gets there but never quite does.

I don't know about that one. Its amazing how earily similiar our teams are. Both fanbases pretty much hate the owner. Our records are damn near identical. And our pitching hasn't been that bad this season outside of that bum Mike Gonzalez. Our offense has been nothing short of atrocious. Astros complete sweep of Pirates with 10-3 win
HOUSTON(AP) The Houston Astros have gone from baseball's last winless team to one of its best.

Lance Berkman hit his first home run, Carlos Lee and Pedro Feliz drove in two runs apiece and the Astros completed a three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 10-3 victory on Sunday.

The Astros have won eight of 10 games after losing their first eight. A difficult early schedule was a big factor in the rough start - they faced San Francisco, Philadelphia and St. Louis in the first three series.

Houston's starting pitching has been reliable from the beginning, but the offense is producing now that Berkman is back after missing the first two weeks with a knee injury. The Astros averaged 1.75 runs in their first eight games, and 4.6 in their last 10.

``I think we have as good a team as anybody in the National League right now,'' Berkman said. ``But you have to be sharp when you play those teams, or you're going to get beat. We weren't sharp and we got beat. Now, we're back together, everybody's here, everybody's healthy and we're playing well. We just need to maintain it.''

Brett Myers (1-1) allowed 11 singles and struck out six in six innings and Michael Bourn tied a single-game career high with three steals.

Charlie Morton (0-4) gave up five runs and five hits in three innings for the Pirates, who've lost six in a row after a 7-5 start.

Morton has allowed 24 earned runs in 13 1-3 innings this season, but the offense was also misfiring on Sunday. The Pirates had 14 hits and stranded nine runners.

``When you get down big, it emphasizes how tough it is to score runs,'' Pittsburgh manager John Russell said. ``We did start to swing the bat well, and I hope we can build off that. Now, we need to be able to swing with guys in scoring position.''

Garrett Jones , Ryan Doumit and Andy LaRoche singled in the second inning to give Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead. Myers then fanned Morton for his 1,000th career strikeout.

Myers didn't think the milestone was a big deal - especially since it came against a pitcher.

``I really wish it was somebody else, but oh well,'' Myers said. ``It took a lot of guys to get there.''

Berkman led off the Houston half of the second with a homer to left. It was Berkman's 314th career home run, tying him with Reggie Smith for fifth all-time among switch hitters.

Feliz singled later in the inning, stole second and scored on J.R. Towles' single to put Houston up 2-1. The Astros stole six bases, their highest total since stealing seven in a May 2006 game against Washington.

``We're kind of working on it all the way around,'' Bourn said. ``We're looking better out there, putting everything together and winning games.''

The Astros loaded the bases with one out in the third. Bourn scored on a fielder's choice before Feliz drove a two-run single to center for a 5-1 lead. Feliz had five RBIs in the series.

Brian Bass relieved Morton for the Houston half of the fourth and walked Bourn and Jeff Keppinger with one out. Pittsburgh's pitchers gave up eight walks.

Lee then found the gap with a liner to right-center. He slid into third, Bobby Crosby 's relay throw skipped away from LaRoche and Lee was awarded home for an 8-1 lead.

The Pirates loaded the bases and added a run in the sixth, but Myers got Aki Iwamura on a groundout to end the threat.

Mills replaced Myers with Chris Sampson for the seventh. Myers threw 91 pitches and wasn't happy with the decision.

``I didn't feel like I was tired or anything like that,'' Myers said. ``I wanted to stay in there, but it was probably a good time to get me a break there and not let me throw 100 pitches every time I go out there, and be fresh for the next one.''

With the game out of hand, Mills wanted to get some of his relievers work.

``He goes, 'I'm a 120-pitch pitcher,''' Mills said. ``I said, 'Well, thanks. We only need 90 today.' That didn't go over too well.''

Houston scored two runs in the seventh off left-hander Brian Burres . Tommy Manzella drove in the first with a double to right and Burres yielded a bases-loaded walk to Keppinger to make it 10-2.

Jeff Clement doubled and scored in the eighth against Tim Byrdak , the first run allowed by the Astros' bullpen in 12 1-3 innings.

This is one way for the Astros to become nationally relevant again:

The Cardinals by stepping on their dicks and not beating teams they should is what helped the fucking Reds.

Anything less that 90 losses will be a successful season in my book.

:tu

87 losses and a young promising team that plays hard. No more lazy Berkman or heartless Oswalt. If they would have dumped Lee this would have been an incredible. Nice season and here's hoping for improvement from the youngsters.
