Kobe played Duncan's season average. I guess we can say the Spurs are struggling this year because Tim has not played.

Good win Spurs! *tip o the hat*

Duncan and TP played well. Drew held his own and showed some nice moves. Laker defense is larthargic.

You compliment was the equivalent of someone saying no Manu for Spurs, no Yao for Rockets, no Nelson for Magic, and no KG for Celtics but you still won the 2009 title. Congrats Lakers.

When Gasol is playing, Bynum gets neutralized. Shannon Brown is athletic as hell and he is a great spark for the Laker bench.

My response may be SOMEwhat instigated by D&C's ramblings in the game thread. I dunno...

But after sayin "No Kobe" when he played for 3 quarters and is famous for playing with/through injuries, the props seem, as DPG stated, a bit disingenuous.

Main Title: Man Down
Main Caption: The Lakers lost another road game. They also lost Kobe Bryant. With Bryant leaving with back spasms, the Spurs rolled.

The spurs would've still rolled with Pau Gasol out. They're giving 24 too much credit than he really deserves...

No question, lakers play good, specially without kobe in 4th. He was there on the 3rd, even if he didn't make shots, its still counts because he runs the floor, but Spurs came out to win this game from the start, period. They did what they came out to do. So good job lakers, but Go Spurs Go.

u think kobe was playing in the 3rd qtr? he didn't take a shot. he looked like a zombie

True, but if Kobe were healthy he would not have given the ball to anyone else and might have shot you out of the game sooner. Edit : I don't want to talk trash at all though as with Kobe out there he may have taken more shots and gotten you into the game again. It can go both ways with him. Personally I don't think it's the right way to play, but if anyone can do it Kobe can.

You are right though I have never seen Kobe that lifeless out there before. Is his body breaking down you think?

Good game Lakers. I'm proud of my Spurs too, because this game had choke/letdown written all over it after Kobe went to the locker room.

I'm also glad we didn't make Shanon Brown look like Lebron.

Hopefully we'll face off healthy when it matters. Enjoy beating Dallas tomorrow :toast

The Mavs are who we thought they were and we let them off the hook. Thankfully Spurs took care of biz tonight. For 7 of those 8 quarters the Spurs looked very much like one of the top teams. Obviously winning both wouldve been ideal but either way strides are being made in the right direction.

Though we won, the offense was pretty streaky and we had tons of turnovers in the 3rd quarter. What really salvaged us what the bench play, which the Lakers struggled to keep up with. Finally, we won against a +500 team and it feels good. However, the Spurs still have a lot of work ahead of them. Meanwhile, props to the Lakers for the huge comeback and giving it their all in spite of being saddled with injuries. Great game for both teams

Also I love how when they bring up Gaysol being out Laker fan doesnt take into account the fact that if he was in there Bynum turns into a 10 ppg 5 rpg player. Kobe played 32 minutes, Spurs were up by 14 at the half and by 22 in the third quarter.

I know you weren't asking me, but...

He occasionally DOES rush it a bit unnecessarily, but when he slows down, he can get any shot he wants, thanks to, not only his height, but his freakish length. It's almost unfair. As many have said, once he develops a solid post game, he's gonna be damn near unstoppable...

...unfortunately.

I aint proud of much..Lamar Odom is one of the biggest mismatches in the league but seems to disappear when you need him most. He needs to start driving to the rim like he used to. Did I just read that? Are you some kind of retard?

This statement is the prime reason Spurs fans don't want to listen to anything a Lakers fan has to say.

Even in a loss you're still blowing your own horn.

Bynum was not a factor on the defensive end. Tim dominated this game on both ends. That's why he one of the best of all time. Bynum had a great game offensively, but other than that he didn't dominate.

Against a younger Tim, Bynum would have totally been taken apart, still though Tim played a great game. If want Kobe to get some credit, how about giving it when it is deserved the other way?

exstatic
01-13-2010, 12:07 AM
Props to Bynum he had a great game.

The Lakers better hope Kobe, Gasol, Artest, Bynum, and Odom are healthy for the post season because outside of those 5 the Lakers aren't very good.

I was just thinking that outside of Kobe, I don't like any of LA's guards. They all bring something to the table, but not usually more than one thing. LA's guards outside of Kobe are like SA's bigs outside of Duncan.

Winning championships takes talent, heart, health, and a little bit of luck along the way.

He played well..but I think he rushes his shots too much..what do you see?

Agree... he doesnt have the patience yet and alot of the time his moves are premediated too much. Most times its enough to get a clean look because of his sheer size and length.. and because of his touch he will score the majority of those. Guys like Hakeem and Duncan make a move, then if it gets blocked off or defended well, they have a counter move which they go to which gets them a good look.. sometimes Hakeem would use 3 or 4 of his counters for the sake of it :lol. Obviously it cant always be this way... sometimes when your going against a tough post defneder you have no choice but to premediate your moves .. in the hope of getting the defender just that little off balance to get a decent look at the basket.

Another thing... one thing he doesnt do enough of is crab dribble... despite being so long and lanky Bynun still has a really strong base so he really could get to his spot in the paint anytime he wanted and get an easier shot... even for a baby hook.. he often settles for a face up where he takes a hard dribble right then spins towards the middle for a hook shot - its still almost ungauradble, but he can get predictable. But even Duncan is guilty of going to a move too much... that stupid one dribble towards the middle and then throw up a fade away running hook when his defender is smothering him...

All this comes with time though hes still only 22.

Agree... he doesnt have the patience yet and alot of the time his moves are premediated too much. Obviously it cant always be this way... sometimes when your going against a tough post defneder you have no choice but to premediate your moves .. in the hope of getting the defender just that little off balance to get a decent look at the basket.

true true. how much longer till he truly develops his game?

Hard to say... he's gonna continue to get better at making reads right throughout his career... but he probably doesnt 'fully' develop in terms of mental until 25 or 26. Duncan wasnt a great passer out of double teams until he was around that age.. maybe a little younger. Same with Shaq and Hakeem. The more touches he gets... the more the post game will become more natural to him aswell.

01-13-2010, 12:49 AM
Bynum's strong base is the key to low post domination. He has a way to go, but you can't teach his length or that base.

true true. how much longer till he truly develops his game?

You can never say. Everyone said that Dwight Howard would be a beast by now, but I wasn't so sure and now I think he is even regressing and getting worse. Strictly talking about low post skills here.

It's not easy being a great post player. You gotta work your ass off to get to Hakeem Olajuwon or Tim Duncan level. Most people never get there despite showing lots of potential.

Bynum: 23 pts 11-23 FG (less than 50%), 8 rbds, 2 assts, 2 blks, 0 stls on 42 min.

Duncan: 25 pts 12-19 FG, 13 rbds, 4 assts, 4 blks, 2 stls on 39 min.

Yeah, Bynum definitely won the matchup against Duncan :lol
Yeah, Duncan was terrible tonight... that kid with the not as good stats on the team that lost by 20 really owned him.
Dazed and Confused, go easy on whatever you're taking.

Just got home from the game. Enjoyed giving the Laker fans hell all night. There was a whole group of them one section over that brought their championship banners (which I laughing pointed on to them that they were holding them backwards, typical of a Laker fan)with their hats all crooked like little wannabe gangstas. They were talking big shit early in the game when the Lakers went up 12 to 5, but once the Spurs built a 6-9 pt lead, it got real quiet over there.

Then, wouldn't you know it.. when the Lakers pull within 6-7pts in the 4th, they start talking shit again. One of them had their girlfriend with them that grabbed one of the banners and started yelling at us and pointing at it, like the bitch was on Jerry Springer or something. She sounded like a damn Chihuahua yapping the whole time.. and the guy she was with was wearing what looked to be a hand spray-painted white T-shirt that said Spurs Suck. Looked like something my 6 year old could make with puff paints. Of the course the guy hid it UNDER his Laker T-shirt while he and his crew took the long walk down the steps when the game was over, amidst the chorus of "Lakers suck" chants...

The younger kid with him (looked to be about 16) looked like his dog had died from midway through the 2nd quarter until the end of the game after talking big stuff early too, with his "MVP! MVP!" chants in the 1st quarter when Kobe was at the FT line.
We gave it right back to him after EVERY ONE of Kobe's 5 TURNOVERS, by chanting "MVP!" right back at him. Especially loved the George Hill steal on Kobe for the dunk. Kid pulled out his phone to pretend he couldn't hear us.

Damn, I love watching Laker fans leave the AT&T Center hanging their heads....

Kobe is such a warrior. I wish Manu, Duncan and Parker were half the man that Kobe is.

He went out there, bruised and broken, and did everything he possibly could to lead his team to victory. I have never known a player to play through injuries...not like him anyway.

As long as everyone in the media and the stadium knows he's injuried...he'll continue to soldier on. And even though his hand is falling off, he still managed to shoot 7-10. Not to mention his life-threatening back injury. I would also like to thank him for staying until it got ugly. Thank you Kobe. You're a true American hero! :toast

Bynum played well bust missed some easy shots that he usually makes. Duncan looks great & losing some weight made him a lot quicker..It seems like half of Tim's shots look so weird going up but you just know most of em will fall in somehow hahaa..Im happy about Andrew though, he seems like hes starting to play like he usually does in january..Hopefully he stays healthy (knock on wood) & plays just as hard when Pau returns..

It's funny how Spur fans used to always say:

"Regular season doesn't mean shit. It's all about the playoffs"

And now that their team hasn't done jack shit in the playoffs for 2 straight seasons, including an embarrassing 1st round exit to of all teams the Dallas Mavericks, they have changed their tune and are talking shit after every regular season win.

Now I would somewhat understand it if the Spurs were able to take down a fully healthy Laker team. That might be worth getting excited about. But against a Gasol-less and barely functioning Kobe Laker team? Give me a break.

Not really..this always happens to the Spurs, it doesn't matter who the competition is..always get big leads and blow them..the fact that there was a 22-point lead with Kobe playing was nice to see though..

It's just another game, it really doesn't mean anything..the Lakers were missing their most valuable player, so we'll have to see how we match up with you guys when he plays..I don't like the chances, but maybe the Spurs will continue to improve, the talent is there..

Kobe not being there is irrelevant to me though..he played 32 minutes and the Lakers shot a better % from the field with Kobe out than they did when he was playing, so I don't think they would have played good enough to erase a 15-point lead..

Meaningless game..

He played well..but I think he rushes his shots too much..what do you see?

From what I saw of Bynum.

Bynum at times was like a black hole on offense. It seemed to me that he was trying to make more of a personal statement than help his team to victory. He looked quite selfish out there.

I noticed that every time Duncan scored on him, Bynum just HAD to keep taking shots to counter if the other Lakers gave him the ball in the post. I think he needs to work on his maturity and his rushing shots will minimize.

He did play pretty well. I finally got to see some 1v1 moves from him. Solid big, lots of physical tools. Not sure when he will reach his full potential, but when he does, the whole NBA will know it.

Minus Ariza (who at last count probably weighed in at 200 Lbs) this is still the same team from last year who so happened to have beaten up one of if not the most physical team in the NBA....The Celtics.....twice. Unfortunately they didn't meet in the Finals but it was obvious the Lakers had moved up the ladder of being one of those physical teams.

They also contained one of the best big men in Dwight Howard. Now, what is your basis in calling them soft?

I heard this summer he no longer wanted to work with Kareem. Is that still true or did they patch things up? I don't see how he wouldn't relish learning under one of the greats.

Is he lazy? He doesn't seem like he's always giving it his all. Maybe being second fiddle to Pau Gasol really bothers him.
