Soundgardens Badmotorfinger was one of my favorite albums growing up. PJ's VS was the first tape I bought, and STP's (if they count) Core album was one of my most played albums in my youth.

Those already listed plus Mudhoney and Screaming Trees. Mad Season was also quality.

good to see someone finally mentioned Mudhoney.

I never really liked PJ... maybe I'm missing something. Nirvana was my favorite at first.

Would you class Stone Temple Pilots as grunge?

The Gemini Method

Would you classify Smashing Pumpkins as grunge?

With that being said, I would say Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana were big in my youth.

kind of a small genre to name favorites i'd think.

Well sure when everyone keeps naming like 5 bands. That's why I only said 1. It's like saying "who's your favorite Spur" and everyone saying "Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Hill, Blair, and Mason"

stp and smashing pumpkins = pretty much grunge imo, hafta really nitpick through their discography to make a case one way or the other though.

it's easy to split hairs between what was 'alternative' and what was 'grunge'

temple of the dog, dinosaur jr, sonic youth, dig, smashing pumpkins (mainly pisces iscariot), L7, and of course alice in chains, pearl jam, and soundgarden. oh and hum

Two severely underrated bands.

While not all exactly fit the genre, of the music made popular by the time and scene...

1. Alice In Chains
2. Dinosaur Jr.
3. Nirvana
4. Soundgarden
5. Temple Of The Dog
6. Smashing Pumpkins
7. Green River
8. Pearl Jam
9. Stone Temple Pilots
10. Bush

Also considered: Sonic Youth, L7, Pixies, Mudhoney, Mad Season
