I've been critical of Pop in the past, but damn - this might be hands down the worst coached game by him I've ever seen. What an idiot.

His stubborness and coaching ego are getting in the way.

MESSAGE TO ALL CLIFFJUMPERS

Warning - tonight is the 2nd of a btb on the road without Tim against a young, athletic team that gives us fits and is our new Bucks. The odds say we have about a 20% chance to win this.

We needed this win, this gives the team a major boost in confidence knowing they can handle business without TD.
And what about the Blair beasting tonight huh?

And when TP & Manu are hampered by injuries by the end of the year thanks to games like these, we'll get to see how well TD can handle business by himself.

I didn't get to watch this game, but could tell how crazy it was based on the gameblog. :lol This could be a tide-turning game for the Spurs. A loss, especially given Pop's decision-making, would have been acceptable, but those tired players pulled out something there that we didn't know they have.

Now if anyone can put a gif or a vid of that Manu save pronto, I'll be really grateful. :toast

I'm feeling ya. Let's double-team his ass.

Can't believe Pop would compromise team success, with his stubborness and commitment to decisions that have obvious negative results.

Commitment to small-ball

Refusal to play Ian, Haislip, Hairston (even during middle portions of the game)

Alright what a game by Blair too.

Now I am wondering if Blair and TD together is stopping some of Blair's production? What do you think? Maybe put Blair on the bench again? But not to start Antonio. Blair and McDyess would fit well together I think with McDyess playing outside of the paint.

Ideally if Mahinimi could start games and help TD with his length for a few minutes would be great. Will he ever get that chance. You could always just try starting Ian for the first 5 minutes of the game and also 5 minutes in the third quarter. Will he get anymore chances?

Harlemheat's idea of getting Haywood would be great to start with TD then you can come with Blair and McDyess off the bench. I think a bigman should be the first priority by far for a trade.

Would've loved to have seen how Blair and Ian play together. Pop could've tried this early in the game. Gauge the results and either moved away from it or come back to it based on results.

It's troubling that he sits his best player, but is too stubborn to try a few lineup changes that could've given his team an advantage.

Jefferson lifts Spurs over Thunder 109-108 in OT (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2010011325&prov=ap)
By Jeff Latzke

Rookie DeJuan Blair set new career highs with 28 points and 21 rebounds while filling in for Tim Duncan, and Richard Jefferson hit the game-winning jumper in overtime to lift the San Antonio Spurs to a 109-108 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.

Jefferson ended up with the ball after the Spurs’ play went awry, with Manu Ginobili diving out of bounds to save an errant pass that bounced off of Antonio McDyess. George Hill then passed it to Jefferson, who beat the shot clock with a 13-foot jumper in the lane with 9.1 seconds left.

Russell Westbrook missed a potential game-winning 19-footer for Oklahoma City at the final buzzer.

Kevin Durant scored 35 points and Westbrook had 25 points and 13 assists for the Thunder. Jeff Green added 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Tony Parker had 28 points, Hill scored 16 and Jefferson and McDyess each finished with 13 points.

Duncan rested on the second game of a back-to-back set as San Antonio started a four-game trip, and he ended up watching a thriller from the bench.

The Thunder, who trailed by 19 in the first half, rallied back from an eight-point deficit in the final 4 minutes of the fourth quarter to force overtime. Thabo Sefolosha finished off an 8-0 run with a two-handed slam with 57.6 seconds left, and Westbrook was able to answer Parker’s jumper.

McDyess missed a 3-point attempt from the left wing at the end of regulation, after Ginobili was double-teamed.

Durant put the Thunder up 108-106 on a 20-foot jumper from the right side with 1:28 left in overtime, and McDyess made one of two free throws to make it a one-point game. Jefferson then blocked Sefolosha’s shot to give the Spurs a chance to go ahead.

The ball bounced off of McDyess and then just shy of the end line before Ginobili laid out to save it to Hill. The extra effort turned a breakout performance from Blair into a victory.

Blair had 10 points, six rebounds, two steals and a block as the Spurs opened a 10-point lead in the first 5 1/2 minutes, and the widebodied 6-foot-7 center was also busy setting screens to clear the way for a hot start by Parker. The All-Star point guard had 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting in the first quarter as the Spurs went up 35-18.

The lead reached 19 early in the second quarter before the Thunder stormed back with an 18-4 run, powered by eight points by Westbrook.

But Blair and Parker took over again, scoring 12 of San Antonio’s points during a 20-8 push that restored the lead to 63-46 on Jefferson’s right-handed jam over Nenad Krstic with 28.4 seconds left in the second quarter.

By halftime, Blair had matched his career best with 18 points, and his 11 rebounds were one shy of his career high.

James Harden, an All-American like Blair last year, made a 3-pointer with 0.3 seconds left before halftime to get Oklahoma City within 12, and the Thunder kept coming with a 12-2 run as San Antonio missed its first 10 shots of the third quarter.

Durant finally gave Oklahoma City its first lead with two free throws that made it 75-74 with 2:34 left in the third quarter before the Spurs went back ahead on back-to-back 3-pointers by Jefferson and Hill to start the fourth.

Blair rattled the rim with a right-handed jam and a two-handed throwdown off a Ginobili bounce pass as the Spurs extended their lead to 90-83 with a string of six straight points midway through the fourth quarter. Parker followed a Blair layup with one free throw to make it 97-89 with 4:03 to play in regulation.

NOTES: The Spurs also won their only two other games without Duncan this season, beating Toronto on Nov. 9 and Dallas on Nov. 11. Parker also missed both of those games. … The Thunder had their lowest-scoring first quarter since a Nov. 22 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, getting outscored 35-18. … The Thunder fell to 16-2 when scoring at least 100 points.

Im still not satisfied with RJ's play even with the clutch shot at the end.
The reason why the Spurs got him is to provide offense in times when one of the big 3 is down..so far, he hasn't met that expectation.

That's what I think. You could even start Ian with TD for the first 5 minutes of the first quarter only. You don't have to play Ian anymore than that for the game if you don't want to.

I don't get Pop at all.

ideally for me I would start Ian for the first 5 minutes of the 1st and 3rd quarter with TD to try and get some shotblocking and athleticism out there and see what happens.

Kevin Durant pulls him out on the perimiter and drives to the basket fouling him out in 3 minutes due to him making his usual dumb fouls and not being quick enough to guard long small forwards.
