Again, not trying to be a dickhead but this doesn't really add anything to the table. We're supposed to be raising the bar, right?

It's one thing to praise your player, and another thing to put down another team/player. It's not necessary to combine the latter with the former.

Your title says Spurs player vs. Grizzlies player but the thread only sarcastically points out that Thabeet isn't as productive as Blair.

We all know that. Memphis knows that. If you posted this on a Memphis board you'd be just as lame as the Mavs who post crap that they won 2009 Round 1 on SpursTalk.

I like Blair. I'm thankful that he's a Spur. I'm happy for his success. He has a great story and he's so fun to watch. There's no need to mock another player.

We hit a homerun with Grizzly Blair. Lots of our opponents are crying right now!

How lame. All of us knew Thabeet was drafted as the biggest project player in the NBA. He is already a good shotblocker. He just plays behind Marc Gasol. You are shitting on him for no reason at all.

I apologize. I've embarrassed myself and my fellow Spurs fans. I've ruined the sanctity of Spurstalk. And for that... I am ashamed. :(

He could have helped his family with a contract similar to what Dejuan Blair got in the 2nd round. I'm not trying to pick on him. I'm just saying (in my opinion) he's a project and the Grizz couldn't afford one because they need players who can help them now. By the time he gets better and commands a better contract, they'll probably have to end up losing the players they spent all this time to develop.

What the hell are you talking about? He didn't post it on memphistalk for one, so your analogy is off base.

I think bringing up the fact that players are not living up to either their contracts or draft status is more than fair game...how in the world that can be deemed as mocking I don't have a clue.

All that being said, DeJuan is making a mockery of several of the top 10 from the draft. Look at the list:

1) Griffin - gone for the year
2) Thabeet - invisible on a bad team
5) Rubio - who?
8) Jordan Hill - see #5

Oh and I do think pro sports is all about demeaning the other team just as much as trumpeting your own.

He could have helped his family with a contract similar to what Dejuan Blair got in the 2nd round.

Thabeet:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/stats?playerId=4016
Salary 2010: $4,458,840

Blair:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3965
Salary 2010: $850,000

Why in the world would he want a contract like Blair's? He makes 5x as much.

I don't remember saying he would want to make less. I remember saying he could help his family with $850,000 dollars. That's a lot more than many poor families in San Antonio make, even those living below the poverty line... in case you're some how implying that he deserves that contract over Blair.

What a joke. He's not worth 4.5 million dollars as a project player or not.

Thabeet is like a young ratliff/ben wallace, sucks on offense but more than makes up for it on defense.

Blair was definitely a homerunner yeah. I couldnt have wished for anything else better at the draft.

Now let the other teams be watching to him with open mouths and feeling pretty shitty for letting him go.

Actually, the Grizz are not a "win now" team. The Spurs are a "win now" team because their window is closing. Our core is either fastly approaching 30 or a few years passed it. Thus, we need to win as much as we can before the window closes.

The Grizzlies, on the other hand, have a young team with young talent that is maturing. Thabeet is perfect for them. He has time to develop and grow. For the Grizzlies, the window hasn't opened yet. They hope Thabeet will have improved his skill set by the time their window opens with the core players they have.

The Spurs wouldn't have picked Blair in the lottery. They've admitted it. It's a lot easier to make that pick in the second round when everyone is a crap shoot anyway. Kudos to the Spurs for having an early second round pick to get him.
