Ray Allen Q&A: Tweaks Needed in Selection Process for NBA All-Stars (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=tsn-rayallenqampatweaksn&prov=tsn&type=lgns)

A nine-time All-Star and one of the NBA’s most effective ambassadors, Celtics guard Ray Allen said before Wednesday’s 111-87 victory over the Nets that it’s time to tweak the voting process for the NBA’s All-Star starters. He also told Sporting News’ Bill Eichenberger and other reporters that the injuries that have hit the Celtics are not age-related, and that the 27-10 Celtics will be force to be reckoned with once they get everyone healthy.
Q: What’s the best you’ve ever done in the All-Star fan voting? Any idea?
A: Nope. I have no idea. But I think the fan voting is watered down.
Q: What do you mean by that?
A: I like the fact that the fans get an opportunity to vote, but I don’t think their vote should be 100 percent.
Q: Any suggestions about how to change it?
A: To pick the starters, give the players 25 percent, the media 25 percent and the fans 50 percent. The coaches would pick the reserves.
Q: Why divide it up that way?
A: The players, they know who has had a great first half of the season. They know who is beating them every night. You guys watch games night in and night out. So you deserve a say. And you want fans to have input as well. The game is too important to many of them to keep them out of the process.
Q: What does it say about the NBA’s current system that Tracy McGrady of the Rockets is not even playing and is one of top vote getters? … Nothing against McGrady, but isn’t that the kind of situation you want to avoid?
A: Every year we have an All-Star issue. … I think the commissioner should at least put some type of rule in place that you have to play so many games to be eligible for the All-Star Game. … If Tracy played, I’m sure he would have played well enough to be an All-Star because he’s done that his entire career. But again that is taking away from another player in the Western Conference who has been having a great year and deserves to be in there.
Q: Speaking of guys who are having great years, what’s your take on your young point guard Rajon Rondo and his development over these last three seasons?
A: Most people talk about his shot, and how if he worked more on his shot, how much more he would grow. But he’s making a lot more shots now. He’s getting more confidence in it. Plus, he’s in an attack mode at all times. Once he’s out there, he makes guys aware that he’s going to be going at them all night.
Q: How much of a concern has rebounding been for this team? On both ends of the floor, your numbers are down from the last couple of years. Is it something you talk about as a team?
A: It has been. Up until this point in the season we’ve played smaller (lineups) as well. That has a lot to do with it.
Q: How much have injuries affected this team?
A: I like seeing Marquis (Daniels) out there on the floor. When he went down, we suffered because he and Rasheed (Wallace) made our bench one of the best in the NBA. Those two guys could start on any roster in the league. Then you have Glen (Davis) who was out. He started the season on the injured list. So we’ve been fighting back and forth through all of that ever since. But fortunately, it hasn’t been anything too major.
Q: With all the injuries, do you think age could be catching up to this Celtics team?
A: I look at all the players who have been out this year. I don’t think it has anything to do with age. Kevin (Garnett) had surgery. He’d be dealing with issues anyway coming off surgery. I just think it is regular NBA business, regular team business that you deal with in the course of a long season. The guys on this team know how to take care of the bodies and be ready to go out there and play.
