Posey dinged for Duncan undercut (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/2010/01/posey-dinged-fo.html)
By Jeff McDonald
Upon league review, New Orleans guard James Posey has been retroactively assigned a flagrant foul for undercutting the Spurs' Tim Duncan during Monday's game, an NBA source said Tuesday.
The play occurred with nine minutes to go in the Spurs' 97-90 victory, when Posey stuck his leg out to try and prevent a Duncan layup. Duncan and Posey immediately began jawing with each other after the basket.
No foul was called at the time.
It wasn't the only havoc Posey wreaked in the game. He also bloodied Manu Ginobili's nose, inadvertently raking the Spurs guard across the face during a drive in the first half.

Posey sucks
:tu :tu :tu
That move was totally bush league. The trip caught both of Duncan's feet and had he not been able to keep his weight under him, he would've gone down face first.
I'm glad Duncan called him out on it, and I'm glad the league took action. Duncan tried to light it up after that happened, but wasn't having much luck getting the ball in the hole. He still got the W, and I'm sure that's all he cares about.

It would be kind of hypocritical to call out Posey after some of the shit Bruce has done, but at least Bruce was the best perimeter defender in the NBA during this time, and his actions were done as mind games..
To be fair though, Bruce was a lot more subtle..he at least left us the argument that he wasn't doing it on purpose:toast
Posey's a useless NBA player at this point that has absolutely no game left..his only use seems to be committing dirty plays and cheap shots..

James Posey always does that sh*t. I remember he tackled Kirk Hinrich out of bounds in the playoffs.

Posey has a history. I think the first time was with against the Bulls when he was with the Heat. If I'm not mistaken he took out Luol Deng twice once in Chicago and then in Miami and the second time he got canned. Since then he has built on that rep. He also tripped Hill yesterday I'm surprised they didn't review that play.

This must be the reason there was such demand here to bring him in a few years ago. Posey is everything people SAID Bowen was. I thought the Ginobili play was at least as dirty as the Duncan one. He brought his elbow down HARD right on his nose. Yes, it was intentional. The only reason he probably didn't flagrant Parker for the trifecta was he isn't quick enough to. :lol

Posey is such a cheap shot artist. I saw that replay, and he was clearly trying to clip Duncan which could have been pretty dangerous. I think the league should do more by perhaps suspending him a few games without pay and assessing a fine.
They need to set examples and no tolerance policies for this type of crap.

Posey also undercut Ginobili in the 4th quarter. Gino went up for an offensive board and Posey stepped into him then walked two more steps under him, taking his legs out...causing Manu to fall to the floor.

There has been plenty worse done, and plenty worse done by Spurs and former Spurs. However, there really is no need for crap like this, and retroactively assessing a flagrant foul does nothing.

"The guy just tried to take out our franchise player, the greatest PF of all-time, and the reason San Antonio became relevant. I want him, lets trade Bonner and Finley for him!!!"
Seriously wtf is wrong with you people. I dont care what Bruce did, it was never that blatantly obvious and cheap...and it never put in jeopardy the career of the player that made this franchise what it is today. Even if he still had some game left, which he doesnt, I wouldnt want Posey anywhere near a Spurs uniform after that shit. Glad Duncan let him know about it, even if that isnt really his style. Wish we still had someone like Malik, he wouldve let Posey have some...hopefully Blair can become that enforcer Malik was.

I agree with the general tenor of your post, and I love Bruce, but I've gotta say that Bowen was occasionally cheap and dangerous. Specifically, I thought that when he stepped under jump shooters' feet, particularly the time VC sprained his ankle (and I'm pretty sure the same thing happened with Ray Allen), that was pretty dirty.

I definitely wont argue that Bruce was a saint, but like someone else said atleast with Bruce he left the option out there where you could argue that it wasn intentional...it was never so blatantly obvious. There was the argument that he happened to be under those shooters when they elevated for the shot because he played defense tighter and better than everyone else. A weak argument perhaps but it was still there.
Thats besides the point though, my main thing is Posey just did it to OUR franchise player. He didnt do it to Amare, VC, or Ray Allen. He did it to the player thats responsible for this franchises rise into relevance, and couldve ended his season. Wanting Posey on this team after that is a slap in the face to Duncan. Even worse is the fact that the dirty play itself is the reason some people want Posey.

Actually watch the 6:15 mark, he gets TP in the thigh and knocks him down. Refs call a blocking foul on him. Sean calls Posey,"A 1 man wrecking crew."

Duncan was at risk of ankle injury and one month of play.
Ginobili was at risk more, since the blow was right on his face,
Posey was certainly NOT going for the ball.
He was frustrated Ginobili had intercepted his pass.
Absolutely intentional.
As for the Spurs, there seems to be nobody on the team able to re-establish "order" in such cases, where no flagrant was even called.
I miss Robert Horry.
Most people don't know who James Posey is. Once he's done in this league you'll never hear about him again. Not even one of the better 6th men in the league.

Cool Bowen was dirty, like I said you wont hear me argue that he was a saint. I dont see how you compare him to Posey though, not after Posey pulled this shit off on OUR franchise player. If he went out and did it to a VC, a Ray, or an Amare, or someone else from another team than allright I could see your point...but he did it to Tim Duncan. The face of this franchise. Its a slap in the face to Duncan to want Posey on this team after that. Thats the equivalent of Suns fans wanting Horry after the hip check or Sonics/Nets fans wanting Bruce after he injured their star players' ankles.

The HUGE difference that I see in this situation is that Bruce did everything he did, however you view it, with the clock running during play. I don't ever recall even one dead ball cheap shot or trip attempt.

VERY good point. I think to compare Bowen with Posey is ludicrous. Bruce many times may have stepped over the line, but it was seldom ever so blatantly obvious as Posey. He just go and hit people, no matter the clock, no matter the circumstances, no matter anything.
He is just a cheap-shot bastard, seriously.
