Richard Winters turns 92 years old today. He was the commanding officer of Easy company, whose exploits were chronicled in "Band of Brothers" on HBO.
Legislation is currently pending to award him the Medal of Honor for his actions
on D-day.

The govt is so slow it takes 70 years of red tape to get a MOH award passed through?

I wish they were that slow in collecting my taxes.

At the time, there was a max quota of 1 Medal Of Honor per division. in the 101st Airborne, Robert Cole was awarded the MOH for an assault he led during a few days after D-Day (Link Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_G._Cole)). Winters was recommended for the MOH for the Brécourt Manor Assault (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Br%C3%A9court_Manor_Assault) but the recommendation was downgraded to a Distinguished Service Cross since the
"1 MOH per division" quota had already been filled. The bill to award Winters with the MOH has only come about since after the release of Band Of Brothers.

Happy Birthday, Richard! Awesome that he is still alive...wow, there is very few WW2 vets alive and even less people of the younger generation who have any idea of the sacrifice that was vital for us to enjoy what we have now. I'm looking forward to The Pacific...as I'll make sure I won't miss that one.
