In other news it was announced today that Kobe Bryant is the youngest NBA player to reach 30,000 shots.

********** 6,000 of those points came from bullshit free throws from the refs to help inflate his scoring numbers.

sorry sons

"Youngest" means squat because he entered the NBA at age 18. LeBron is going to shatter every single one of kobe's 'youngest' records. LeBron already broke all of them up to LeBron's age. When LeBron reaches 31, he'll have broken this one too.

Seasons played is where the truth lies.

Malone came straight from HS, but the others were not good enough to do what Kobe did coming out of HS.

Kobe's a lock for 30,000 and being a top 5 scorer in NBA history. We will see if his body can sustain to get to 35,000+ and make things interesting.

Kobe is definitely the best scorer of this generation, no doubt.

But 6-7 years later, Lebron will eclipse this anyway.

Don't be so sure. Lebron won't be scoring like he is now when his athleticism goes. Expect to see a sharp drop in Lebron's offensive game once he hits 30 or so. When he doesn't have the ability to blow past and through people to the rim, his ability to score will take a serious hit. Kobe has the skills to put up 25-30 PPG for the next 5 years even though he doesn't have the athleticism he had in his 20s. I can't see Lebron being able to do that in the later stages of his career.

When his athleticism starts to drop he'll just use his huge frame to murder opponents on the block. I remember haters used to say the same thing about Jordan.

I agree. Though there is no guarantee anyone lasts past their next game though. Lebron will pass up Kobe on the "youngest" records if he stays healthy simply because Kobe took several years to become a starter on a veteran team where LBJ came in as the focal point day one.

Both are phenonimal players and I enjoy watching them both.

Congrats to Kobe on the milestone and a pre congrats for Timmys next game. :toast:toast

There's no guarantee he will develop a post game like Jordan. Jordan didn't use his size in the post to bully opponents, he used skill. Time will tell if Lebron develops the skills needed to still be dominant when the athleticism goes after age 30.

Kobe=MSP(Most Selfish Player in NBA history)

Don't get me wrong, I mean...he wouldn't have reached 25,000 points if he ain't so selfish.

Keep shooting 35 times per game Kobe, that can also make your teammates look like a fool.:toast

Just for those curious....

Kobe Bryant:

FGM/A - 8,699-19,123
3PM/A - 1,255-3,689
FTM/A - 6,359-7,576

Now, maybe Im just tired and doing my math wrong but help me understand this.

He JUST broke 25,000 last night, right?

And they dont count post season for this stat, right? At least, I know for Timmy's 20,000th point they are not counting Post season.

So, here's my math......

FGM = 8699. 8699 x 2 = 17398
3PM = 1255. 1255 x 3 = 3765

17398 + 3765 = 21163

Are they counting his free throws? If so, he busted the 25,000 mark a while ago and is actually closer to 30,000 (somewhere around 27,500). Where are the other 3800 or so points coming from? Am I missing something?

You are mistaken. He made 8,699 - 1,255 = 7,444 (2 point shots) and made 1,255 (3 point shots).

7,444 x 2 + 1,255 x 3 + 6359 x 1 = 14,888 + 3,765 + 6,359
= 25012

There you go. Field goals made also includes 3 point shots.

What does Duncan need? One point? Definitely gets props from me--there has never been an adversary worthy of praise like Duncan. I remember during the Shaq/Kobe 3-peat how I used to get nervous when we'd go against the Spurs solely on the ascent of Tim Duncan. The guy is still a threat to the Lakers and he'll get his props.

Congrats, Kobe...to have grown up most of my adult life seeing you apply your numerous skills on the basketball has been a privilege. Sports may not take away bills, cure illnesses, or resolve world conflicts, but it does bring you a an ecstasy of riches and a momentary escape from the trials of the real world. Thanks for the memories up to this point.

Congrats to one of the best players in the league on what is a great achievment.

But the fact of the matter is that Wilt Kareem and Jordan all got to 25000 points in 100+ fewer games. I believe Wilt did it in almost 300 fewer games. Still an amazing job by Kobe... but this whole "youngest player to ever do it" thing doesen't mean a whole lot.

**edit** Just looked up Wilts numbers and he got to 25k in 691 games. Any laker-fans out there know how many games it was for Kobe?

**edit number 2** Looked it up myself also and Kobe did it in 990

**edit number 3** And I swear the last one. Jordan played 1072 games in his career for a total of 32,292 points. Thats 82 games more then Kobe has played until now in his career. if Kobe avergaes 25 a game for the next 82 games he would finish with 27,062 points.

Wilt, Kareem, and Jordan played in a different era, when scores were much higher.

Still, an impressive achievement by Kobe. Of course, LeBron will smash all of Kobe's individual records one day. :hat

Agreed, although it will be difficult to break some of LeBron's records, because 2-3 years after he joined the league (I'm not sure when exactly) Stern and his guys decided that highschool players have to wait one year before being eligible to join the NBA and making those records even harder to surpass.

That is true...but then you can also throw the thought out there that LeBron suffers a major knee injury and doesn't have the longevity required to beat some long standing records. It's mere speculation and until the records do fall, remains so.

Lebron doesn't get the torch until he wins a championship. The greatest players are judged on winning. Stats and regular seasons victories are secondary. If you don't win you aren't the best.

Yeah, but his athleticism shouldn't fade anytime soon, and he should get this record. He already has 14,301 points and the season is only halfway over. He should easily get the extra 10,000 in the next 5 years as long as he doesn't get hurt. He's only 26 now.
