Seriously, would you want to be popular, or at least see your ideas be popular, in this country?

Marcus Bryant

At least The McLaughlin Group, for a contemporary politics show, was palatable. And conservatism wasn't set to the default of maximizing Arab kills. Is it still on?

Whats the Kennedy quote?

I am literally pulling this from my ass...

Men die, nations will fall but an idea lives forever.

SOmething like that...I hacked it.

A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on. Ideas have endurance without death.

People live in the now. No one wants to leave a legacy (though children or ideas), they want to be popular. They go with the ones around them so they are on the winning team, on the popular side.

There are of course exceptions. The average human is a hedonistic parasite at the core. Few live to their ideals.

I don't know about all of them but some are unhappy about Conan losing his show while others are just waiting for the final season of Lost and hoping they finally answer some fucking questions.

America is a center-right country. The Obama admin misread their "mandate".

Just because people were sick of Bush/Cheney and were luke-warm on McCain/Palin, doesn't mean they wanted to turn the car hard-left and drive it off a cliff.

Pivot, stupid.

what's all this "hard left" stuff?

obama is center-right, if he wasn't we would have single-payer, no wars, yadda yadda. but because some people are so dazed by talk radio and get their opinions from a talking box instead of doing the research themselves he keeps getting that "far left" tag pinned on him. its a mind fuck really.

Whats wrong with the whole package?
About this op, I don't think it is the liberalism. THis is IMO but for TV, I think people get tired of the social issues being pushed. anti gun, pro-choice and racism. Then the stories about the poor criminal. Most people I have met and had a discussion about why fox does better and the others don't, I get that kind of response. Last time at the dentist office was when I was watching CNN. In the waiting room Sanchez was talking about how guns are the problem and it's our fault for Mex's huge murder rate. For a anchor man he was very opinionated and confrontational. I could see a large section of the country tuning out because of this ( this were their news anchor, not the evening opinion shows that every cable news outlet does). As far as the radio goes, you have to look at the type of people who listen to talk radio in the daytime. I think the demographics for talk radio benefit the conservatives more than libs.

You cannot blame it on clear channel not giving libs a chance because they have tried over and over to make a profit off of the far lefts audience and have been unsuccessful.

Yes, there is some kind of watered down infantile ideological nonsense behind much of what hits the airwaves these days. It's up to you to be able to discern that.

MSNBC will never change their formula because although they are low audiences, it is normally the higher earners of our society who watch. They do very well with the advertisements.

panic giraffe
01-22-2010, 03:07 PM
to be honest, i think its just the formula.

air america and msnbc can both rely too much on little things like facts and data, and its presented in a way to where its written for a college level audience. even if you talk to any liberal newspaper publisher, and they will tell you their core demo is 24+ college grad pro types.

on the contrast when you watch someone like beck, hannity, dobbs (when he was on), or listen to savage or rush, its dumbed down to the point where the average working man can swallow it whole.

i mean beck uses a freggin chalk board for christ's sake! like in middle school. alot of times they never focus on more than one topic per show, and its really jingle-istic (word?) to the point that it feels like mindcontrol or a pep rally.

if you could find a lib equivlent of jon stewart or put colbert on the radio, i think that would sell. i would also like to see cenyk on tv, but that might still be too educated to work.

You're the special ones. You are my audience. The others are the evil stupid ones. You're special. The elite, you could say. You and I have it all figured out. It's the others who are destroying the country. They....

What I'm saying is that you make the claim that the reason newspapers are losing readers is be cause of the liberal bias.. then it's fair to say that the reason why conservative papers are losing readers is because of the right wing bias.. it's not a surprise to me that you don't get it.
