Lamar Odom credits whiny bitchiness for Lakers' success

Veteran forward says the team plays with a howl on its shoulder, which translates into victories.

Reporting from Toronto - It was as raw and as honest of a pout that one can get from an athlete.

And to his credit, Lamar Odom was more than willing to describe the attitude of the Lakers.

"We're bitchy. We're whiny. We're obnoxious," Odom said. "So what? You know what I mean?"

Is it because the Lakers are the NBA champions?

Is it because the Lakers were the favorites to win the title when this season began?

Is it because the pundits have said the Lakers have the loudest windbags, the deepest throats and perhaps the biggest beotch the NBA in Kobe Bryant?

Yes, Odom responded, it's all that.

Even so, Odom knows the Lakers must constantly spew those peevish tirades.

"I think it's just about crying and bitching about every call, and holding each other accountable to that crying and bitching," Odom said.

Odom was asked whether the whiny attitude has been an issue with the Lakers (33-10) when they lose.

"When you go out, you just want to get the calls, you know" Odom said. "Sometimes, we think we can get em, but sometimes we don't. It happens. That's the honest truth. That's when we start making those faces and throwing our hands in the air".

"You can't underestimate how our churlish outbursts can affect a game. Adam Morrison, well.. shit .. bad example.. um.. DJ Mbenga, all he gotta do is look at the ref wrong to scare em into giving us a call.

Losing does seem to have a positive effect on the Lakers.

Since they acquired Pau Gasol in February 2008, the Lakers have consistently been the whiniest team in the league and have not gone more than two consecutive game without a pout.

"It's like a wake-up call," the whiny bitch Odom said. "It's like we need to be pampered, or propped up by the calls. In boxing you either get knocked down or knocked out. In basketball, you got refs to pick you up and dust you off"

The Lakers didn't start a current eight-game, 13-day trip the way they wanted.

They lost the first game, to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday. Known for their churlish tirades in the clutch, the Lakers failed this time to moan loud enough and wound up losing, which allowed the Cavaliers to sweep the two-game season series.

The Lakers came back to beat the New York Knicks on Friday. The Lakers play at Toronto today.

"It's no big deal about a loss, but we need to improve our hysterical antics" Odom said. "Last year, I think we worked those refs and we won all the games, 6-0.

"We've got that target on our backs. Teams are starting to bitch as much as us, so they are going to get enough calls to beat us. We had that horrible game in Cleveland. Now we're 1-1. Now we put this [Knicks] game behind us and get ready to for the whinefest in Toronto."
