Personally I am prettty sick of the judged events that don't use replay...Gymnastics, diving..etc...

They need to figure out a better system for the gymnasts, divers and figure skaters because these judges are corrupt, incompetent and suceptible to politics.

another sport that needs to be eliminated is softball !

come on, now, have you seen what the distances are to the outfield fences are ?

200'-220' !?!?!?

that's the same measurements as little league baseball !?!??!

a pop-up winds up going out for a hr ?!?!?!

if i want to see a bunch of "carpet-munchers" (with the exception of j finch, & c osterman, of course) running around, i'll go to ancira sports park !

come on iill ...

the pitchers only throw this softball about 70-75 mph ?

i used to play men's fast pitch softball, and when we played, we were facing pitchers from new zealand, australia, canada, etc., that would throw this ball at about 100-115 mph, and with the fact that these pitchers would check in at about 6'3" - 6' 6", when they would finish their delivery, they would, practically be in your face !

and the outfield fences would be at least 275' to 350' !!!

show me a guy who throws a softball at 100 miles an hour,
and ill become his agent and have a MLB team sign him to a 15 million dollar contract.

Cause hed throw that MLB ball at about 130.

Ummm No Taz...wtf are you smoking.

I was a 4 year Varsity Softball player in high school. I had to learn how to pitch at 16 because our two pitchers suffered season ending injuries.

I will tell you this pitching underhand is DIFFICULT AS HELL! Show me one dude that can pitch that fast. Your exagerating out of your fucking mind!

Baseball pitchers are able to pitch at higher speeds because one they are standing on a mound. Secondly its much easier to throw a ball faster over hand than it is under hand.

The way you pick up power pitching underhand softball is through your arm and hips. Plus ur not standing on a mound. Granted you are closer to your batter than you are in baseball.

But Softball is not as easy as you may think! Sorry...

Well no one has thrown a softball faster than 90 MPH and no one has thrown anything at 115 MPH ... so I'm going to have to call BS at that one.

KoriEllis
08-29-2004, 07:59 PM
It's actually lower than 90. I think the world record is around 118-120 KM per hour. Which is less than 75 MPH.

Taz1

all i know is that when we played in the tournament circuit, back in the late 80s, and on into the mid 90s, there were several pitchers from foreign countries such as the ones i mentioned earlier, i.e. canada, new zealand, australia, and, of course the united states that were "timed" with those radar guns, "juggs", and the scouts for the pan american games were the ones doing the timing, and they would routinely show us the speeds of some of these pitchers, and i, vividly remember seeing these speeds, with the highest speed i ever witnessed was 115 mph, and this pitcher came from australia !

another thing that i was amazed at, when you see these pitchers was that their forearms were so much different in size (with their pitching forearm being so much larger) it was absolutely astonishing !

i swear, their pitching forearm was, typically twice the size of their non-pitching forearm !

Taz1
08-29-2004, 08:29 PM
p.s.

iill, who ever said that fast pitch softball was easy ?

also, i can pitch fast pitch softball, albeit not as fast as these pitchers that i mentioned earlier, but i did pitch several games, when our pitchers were either tired, or we had quite a substantial lead !

i was never timed, but if i was, i would have said that i, probably threw in the area of about anywhere from 50 mph - 75 mph, depending on the pitch, of course !

my favorite was the riser, as i consistently got the batters to fall for the change in levels of delivery !

Taz1
08-29-2004, 08:35 PM
...and ill become his agent and have a MLB team sign him to a 15 million dollar contract.

t park ... when u see these guys throw "overhand", i guarantee that you'll never find a team willing to sign them, period !

when they field a batted ball, such as a bunt, chopper back to the pitcher, etc., they won't even throw it to 1st overhand, and are forced to throw it underhand, due to the fact that they are more accurate throwing it underhand !

remember ... the baselines are at least 30% shorter, in softball that they are in the major leagues !

iminlakerland
08-29-2004, 08:50 PM
I guarantee you it wasnt MPH...

KoriEllis
08-29-2004, 10:45 PM
The fastest female pitcher clocked was Michelle Grainger (USA '96 Olympic Team) at 72 mph.

The fastest male pitcher that clocked was in 1980 at the ISF World in Tacoma, WA. Canada's Gene McWillie (Saskatoon) was supposedly clocked at 84 mph.

The MPH you saw must have been KPH.

Jimcs50

I played fast pitch softball and men's baseball and fast pitch softball is a faster game because of the shorter pitching distance( around 17 ft) and the shorter distances between bases, softball is generally a faster game. So even though the ball is traveling 70- 75 mph instead of 80-90 mph, your reaction time has to be faster in softball.

iminlakerland
08-29-2004, 11:27 PM
yes yes thank you jimcs...

I think thats the reason why i hated playing in the infield. Leave me out there at center or left field!

I remember in practice once i took a grounder right to the neck! I hated playing infield after that.

uh ...

hello, mcfly, hello !

i said that these pitchers that were from australia, canada & new zealand, and the usa, as well were in the time frame from the late 80s to the mid 90s !

you don't think that with the training and technology since 1980, that some pitcher will be able to top 84 mph ?

hell, what were they running the 100 meters at back then, 10.25 - allan wells, from great britain, and in 1996 the 100 meters was won by donovan bailey, with a world record time of 9.84 !!!

come on, now, people ... think !!!

p.s. ... in case you haven't heard, we are in the year 2004 !

no offense intended, but you played the game ?

and you think the distance between the pitcher's rubber & home plate is only 17' ?

here's something to contradict your claim that you, actually played the game of men's fastpitch softball :

www.olympicsp.com/en/Dime...ftball.htm (http://www.olympicsp.com/en/Dimensions/Softball.htm)

seventeen feet ... that's only a little over 5 yards !?!?!?

maybe you meant seventeen yards, which comes a little closer, around 51' ?

Umm.. dumb ass, that article I took it from was written 2 months ago.

The 1980 record still stands.

Just because you have been proven to have been LYING or completely confused about regularly seeing softball pitchers throwing nearly 115MPH, don't come here with your fucked up attitude.

Be careful ... you never know, other things about you might ACCIDENTally get exposed.

all i know is

translation = my immense exagerration has been called out and i'm going to have to revert back to some imaginary, hazy scenario

look taz, you are obviously wrong.

kori just served your ass to hell.

whatever you saw wasn't mph.

the longer you stick with it, the more you look like whott (an ass)

we all know it was a lie, a gross exagerration, however you want to term it to make yourself feel better...so just back down and get off your little al bundy high school glory day mode.

and if you really want to get down to physics to prove you are lying...it would be physically impossible for a softball to reach as great a speed as a baseball at it's fastest peak. overhand greats greater force and the softball has much more resistance.

you are one dumb motherfucker.

next time claim something that COULD happen.

you know like you flew to the moon yesterday or something.

not i swear there were these guys with big arms, and i looked at something and it said 115 and all i know is that i was playing softball and i used to watch them and they threw hard.

your stupid ass has been :served

Look, one of the top men's softball pitchers in the world was unofficially clocked at 86 MPH.

Taz and his friends must have Angels in the Outfield or broken arms with bionic power like in Rookie of the Year.
