Yes...and more pleasant to watch.

Spurs have a -1 Road Win/Home Loss Differential, are 8-15 against teams with winning records, and have played 26 home games and 17 road games. Their point differential, however, is 4.9

The Grizz have a +2 Road Win/Home Loss Differential, are 13-12 against teams with winning records, and have played 22 home games and 21 road games. Their point differential, however, is only 0.2

Well Menphis is a pleasant surprise with Mayo Zach Gay and Gasol they have a solid core. Conley is decent and distributes the ball. Their big problem is they have absolutely 0 bench and their big 4 is playing 40 mn per game. On the other hand spurs are playing poorly but on PO I'll bet on the spurs

No, they don't:

Spurs: -1 Road Win/Home Loss Differential, 8-15 against +.500 teams, 26/17 Home Games/Road Games, 4.9 Point Differential

Grizz: +2 Road Win/Home Loss Differential, 13-12 against +.500 teams, 22/22 Home Games/Road Games, .2 Point Differential

You'd be better off arguing that the Spurs' superior point differential makes them the better team.

If the spurs really wanted to beat the grizzlies they could/would. if the spurs ran the offense through duncan this year, our w/l record would no doubt be better. pop and crew know that by doing that though would result in the same ending. no championship. keeping duncan fresh is still the key. the spurs will come around. it might take a move or 2 to spark it. but it will happen. im not saying they will win the chip, but there not going to miss the playoffs or anything

What no poll this time around? http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145245

The Grizz will be a lesser overall team once its all said and done. If they make it to the playoffs I think they'll be abused by the older teams whether its due to veterans stepping up in the playoffs or being outcoached.

But if you're young and athletic you're going to give the regular season Spurs problems but I'm still siding SA. This would be a better thread come the Rodeo Trip - if Duncan slips and the rest of the team hasn't figured out defense then it might be different. Then again the Grizz will have to continue winning as well.

I would really be exited about the point differential if the Spurs did not give away so many games after having lead by double digits, just like they did in the last 3 games. :depressed

yes, they do.

Memphis has a better Road Win/Home Loss differential and a better record against +.500 teams. The Spurs have played nine more home games than roadies, whereas the Grizz have played only 1 more home game than roadies. So, yes, the Grizzlies have a better record.

Overall record is highly misleading. Throw in the Grizz starting the season 1-8.

They lack consistency because they are a young team but it would be an exaggeration to say they have absolutely 0 bench, considering it was DeMarre Carroll and Sam Young who killed the Spurs in the decisive 2nd quarter 10 days ago.

I think Chris Wallace has done an awesome job. Their bench is filled with guys with potential on the offensive end while being quite good on defense. (Young, Carroll, Thabeet)

Comparing their talents, the Grizzlies are 10x better than the Spurs.

Well if you look the last 5-6 games Young is playing hardly 12 mn with more TOs than points, Caroll even less with a very poor contribution and Thabeet is seeing around 10 min with some blks. Meanwhile Mayo and co are playing 40 mn their bench has potential but not this year.

Probably not this year. They definitely need to upgrade their bench with at least a proven veteran.

Indeed I think they are a proven veteran away to be for real. Anyway with their current roster and healthy I can see them make a strong second half of RS and having a good seed in the POs race.

Indeed, to think I was laughing at them during the offseason because they signed AI.

no. but duncans touches will double in playoffs. and if the playoffs were to start tomorrow im pretty sure duncans touches would triple.

you cant rely on that all season. too many question marks regarding health.

Not really. Eventually, it's all about matchups...

You would think Mavfan would know after the Golden State debacle..

Yep as is most of the NBA. We may be slightly better than the T-Wolves but, even that is questionable.

It's not just Memphis...the Spurs have a combined 2 wins against the other 7 playoff teams. I wonder what Peter Holt thinks about all of this...
Spurs are better suited getting a lottery pick than making the playoffs this year. That way we can possibly add Splitter plus another youngster.

How much better would they be if the AI acquisition worked?

I am surprised they have turned their season around so fast after starting poorly. Zach Randolph is playing out of his mind.

Well, Iverson wouldn't have worked on the Grizzlies, not enough basketballs for the team. Even Tinsley has proven his worth because of his leadership and distributing abilities. Iverson isn't a point guard so he wouldn't have helped Memphis unless he changed his playing style. Apparently, Lionel Hollins doesn't want to take any more shit from Iverson and just bought him out anyway.

Yeah you are probably right. I hate it though because the guy is my favorite player. I hate how the last 2-3 years have played out for him.

They have been going in the right direction all year, so they've been far more consistent. Based on what they've seen, Memphis fans know what to expect from the next week from their team, which is more than Spurs fans can say.
