The Spurs still have a big advantage over the Grizz in one metric.

Findog
01-26-2010, 11:52 AM
Spurs have a -1 Road Win/Home Loss Differential, are 8-15 against teams with winning records, and have played 26 home games and 17 road games. Their point differential, however, is 4.9

The Grizz have a +2 Road Win/Home Loss Differential, are 13-12 against teams with winning records, and have played 22 home games and 21 road games. Their point differential, however, is only 0.2

So we can say the difference is attributed more to the schedule than individual play, if so Memphis owns in that regard also.

Basically my only theory for the point differential is that the Spurs are whipping bad teams and losing to good ones.

I miss the days when I could bring up the "well, yeah, but in a 7 game series"...and say it with some conviction.

Other thing is Memphis is 17-5 at home. All of the sudden the Fed Ex Forum has become a tough place to win for visiting teams.

Ill take the spurs cuz Memphis has no playoff experience but the Spurs are definitely lacking some athletic bigs which would get lit up by Zach, Gasol, Mayo, Gay, etc..god dman Memphis has a really good starting 5 actually haha..SA just looks really bad on D & Pop is doing a shitty job.

Grizz are clearly better right now, with an even brighter future. Meanwhile, Pop and his inexplicable penchant for small-balling the Spurs out of contention has made him the new Al Davis of the NBA.

Zach Randolph - 37 mpg
Rudy Gay - 39 mpg
OJ Mayo - 38 mpg
Marc Gasol - 35 mpg
Mike Conley - 30 mpg

Tim Duncan - 32 mpg
Tony Parker - 32 mpg
Manu Ginobili - 26 mpg
Dick Jefferson - 30 mpg
George Hill - 25 mph

Of course, the Grizz have a much younger core, so they can probably absorb those minutes easier than the Spurs, which is why Pop is holding his guys PT down.

Talent-wise, especially in the starting five, Memphis is better. They're younger, they're more athletic and they're more explosive. But experience is so big in this game that, should the teams play in a best-of-seven series, I'd pick San Antonio.

It reminds me a little of that series in 1999 between Utah and Sacramento. The Kings were faster and more dynamic, but the Jazz just knew how to win in tight playoff situations, and that was the difference. I think a series between the Spurs and Grizzlies would play out in much the same way.

Dallas was a 53-win team in 2001. I don't think Memphis is quite at that level yet.

That would be true if the Spurs were capable of getting stops late. They haven't shown any of that ability recently, and with micro-ball on the floor late Memphis could probably score at will.

First year playoff teams with a bunch inexperienced players don't usually do well in the playoffs. I wouldn't bet against the Spurs. Nor would I bet on them considering how bad they were ass-raped by Dallas last year in the 1st round.

But Memphis definitely has a future where the Spurs have been irrelevant since 2008.

No...The Spurs minus Tony Parker completely outhustle the much younger Grizzlies team and get the victory and it completely debunks this thread. Knowledgeable fans understand the maturity level of the Spurs is above the Grizzlies athleticism. Just because the Grizz beat the Spurs earlier in the season doesn't mean they're better. I guess Oklahoma City is better than Denver, huh? Stupid comment. If you want to get down to brass tacks, it's the fact that the Spurs have won two more games and lost two less games than Memphis that makes them better.
