Landry fined

The NBA fined the Rockets and forward Carl Landry because Landry stood up in front of the Rockets bench during recent games. Landry, who said he was fined $10,000 and the team was fined $20,000, said he had heard about the rule change requiring players to sit during games in the preseason but not since and had not received any warning.

“It’s frustrating because it’s a lot of money that’s been lost,” Landry said.

Soooo, Landry can get fined for standing up in front of the bench, but LeBron can get away with dancing on the sidelines? Fuck Stern!

Lame. They might as well fine everybody in the league then.

I remember them announcing this rule earlier, but Landry is the 1st I've ever that has gotten in trouble for it..it's a ridiculous rule IMO..the NBA probably got some complaints from some rich snobby types..

What a load of fucking bullshit.

Stern has sanitized the league to the point where it has lost its flavour.

Slowly turning into the all white league....

I've seen every team's bench stand up and waive their towels on dunks and good plays including the Spurs.

Me too. Pretty lame IMO. It seems that pro sports are trying to really tone it down when it comes to the emotional side of the game. Kinda like upper management is trying to enforce Tom Landry's statement "act like you've already been there". Problem is that sports is driven by emotion and to curtail it would mean that performances would also suffer.

2 NBA teams fined for standing in front of bench
January 12, 2010

The NBA has fined two teams $10,000 apiece for violating the rule preventing players from standing for long periods of time in front of their bench.

League spokesman Tim Frank confirmed a memo was sent to all teams on Tuesday informing them of the fines. The teams were not identified in the memo.

The rule was instituted this season as a way to stop players from blocking the view of fans sitting behind the benches.

That's bitchass. It should be treated like Football. Here in San Diego, if you get those seats directly behind the team bench, it's actually a cheaper ticket because it's OBSTRUCTED VIEWS. And you accept that when you get that ticket. But hey, that's why screens are all over the place. I just want to be there as part of the action. So...rather than charge and arm and leg for those seats behind the bench, call them obstructed and then people won't bitch. At least they shouldn't because they saved money.

:lmao

Since when is 3mil per chump change? I've just gotta laugh when I see shit like this. I feel for Carl since he can't go out and buy that 70-inch plasma display he was coveting now. Mebbe he can find a way to scrape by with the other 2.99 mil he's got. :rolleyes

The amount of the fine is a bit steep for the infraction though. Mebbe $500 or 1k is more appropriate.

Nah but I don't have a problem with it. He was rapping to Eminem last week during the Laker game and that was AWESOME!
