Just when it seems you've seen and heard it all in the NBA, something happens to remind that there are few limits to bizarre behavior.
Sometimes you just have to ask: What were they thinking?
We'll probably never know what Hawks coach Mike Woodson was thinking when he decided he no longer needed eyebrows. Thus far, he has managed to stonewall every question that followed his appearance, sans eyebrows, at Tuesday's game in Houston. I believe NBA.com's Sekou Smith, who used to cover the Hawks, when he quotes Woodson saying: “All I know is they were there Monday morning, and now they're gone.”
That's a “What was he thinking?” moment.
Given the lead time for such things, there is little doubt Kobe Bryant is telling the truth when he insists Nike prepared the copy weeks ago for an ad that ran this week in Sports Illustrated and ESPN The Magazine in which the caption under a photo of Kobe Bryant reads: “I'll do whatever it takes to win game. I don't leave anything in the chamber.”
The NBA called the ad “inappropriate,” and Bryant swears he advised his business partners he, too, thought the ad inappropriate because of the timing of its release, relative to the Gilbert Arenas gun incident.
Still, you have to wonder: What were they thinking?
Then there's Greg Oden, embarrassed because nude pictures he took of himself and sent to a lady friend have shown up on the Internet.
