I don't know how she could go through with something like this? Sad, sad story. Do her and her lawyer plead insanity? If so, does she get away with it? According to the news, she knew she did something wrong when the police arrived. She told the cops to arrest her and put her hands out for them to handcuff her.

SAN ANTONIO -- Police on Tuesday were investigating the stabbing deaths of two small boys, ages one and three, whom police believe were killed by their mother.

Police responding to a 911 call for a stabbing in the 100 block of Weizmann found the 22-year old mother outside leaning against a fence.

"She said to the officer when he walked up, 'I just killed my babies,'" said Chief William McManus.

When officers eventualy got into the house, having to force their way in through a locked door, they found the woman's one-year old and three-year old sons lying next to each other in a bedroom, both stabbed to death.

"Words can't describe the scene," said Chief McManus. "It was unspeakably sad."

"They can't speak for themselves, they can't defend themselves," added neighbor Angelica Puentes. "They're very vulnerable right now and she just took advantage of that for whatever reason, I don't know."

The woman, whose name police would not release until formally charged, was described by neighbors as someone who kept to herself. Often seen walking along the street with her kids, she never spoke to any of them.

"She didn't socialize with any of us," said Puentes.

"She would walk up and down the street, like she didn't know where she was going or she was in a trance," said another neighbor who asked not to be identified.

Just as shocking as the news was for the neighbors, the woman's demeanor as police led her away was just as unsettling.

"She was not unstable, she was rather calm when the officers were talking to her," said Chief McManus.

"She had no expression on her face," said the anonymous resident. "Real somber, maybe she didn't know what she did."

Police said they knew of no prior reports of child abuse or related calls to the home but there have been visits there for domestic violence calls. Those calls, said McManus, involved altercations between the parents. The children's father, who is in the country illegally, is currently in jail.

Gotta be insane. That's the only way.

Well don't lawyers usually use the argument that the accused didn't realize what they were doing? Like they were not taking their meds as they should've and didn't realize what they had done? I have a feeling this lady will use that in court. Her neighbor's comments suggest she was anti-social and kind of not all there.

There is no justice. To kill her wouldn't bring back those little boys. To let her go free would be horrible. When someone commits a crime involving children there is really nothing that can be done to bring real justice. These are the types of things that make me want to believe in heaven and hell. I would like to think that there is a special place reserved for those babies where they will know nothing but love and a special place in hell for those people where they will know nothing but pain and agony for eternity.

Depends on what her specific psychiatric condition is. Most afflicted know the difference in right and wrong---but something in their wiring keeps them from controlling impulses. Crazy people know they are crazy but they can't fix it---makes them crazier.

I thought truly insane people had no clue about their insanity, and vice versa (sane people think they're crazy)

Insanity is more a legal term, not a medical diagnosis. The actual diagnosis would be any one or combination of thousands of personality disorders/pathologies.

..many different factors. Perception is everything. Hard to know what's going on inside anyone else's head if you can't be sure of your own.

I tell myself I'm not crazy all the time.. :lol unconvincing, but effective in the moment.

There's a bunch of crazy people running around that aren't aware of it. But just as many are aware of it. But it doesn't matter if you know it or not. It matters if you can control the actions that result from it.

that is why the great state of texas believes in the death penalty and hopefully she will follow suit :toast

I saw that on the news yesterday. Right after that story they did the story of that 60 something year old dude that got caught having the biggest child porn collection in town or something. What caught my eye was his content on the matter. He looked right at the camera and looked like he was just the devil himself. He just stared at the camera....almost smirking.

Andrea Pia Yates (born July 2, 1964) a former Houston, Texas resident, is known for killing her five young children on June 20, 2001 by drowning them in the bathtub in her house. She had been suffering for years with very severe postpartum depression and psychosis. Her case placed the M'Naghten Rules, a legal test for sanity, under close public scrutiny in the United States.[2] Yates's 2002 conviction of capital murder and sentence to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years was later overturned on appeal. On July 26, 2006, a Texas jury ruled Yates to be not guilty by reason of insanity. She was consequently committed by the court to the North Texas State Hospital, Vernon Campus, a high-security mental health facility in Vernon, Texas, where she received medical treatment and was a roommate of Dena Schlosser, another woman who committed filicide by killing her infant daughter. In January 2007, Yates was moved to a low security state mental hospital in Kerrville, Texas.

-- I'm guessing this is the main one that they are referencing.

I thought about that one, but it hardly seemed like getting out of jail free to me. And i am by no means in favor of child killers sane or not! I don't like the death penalty, but if murdering an innocent child doesn't automatically call for it, then why even have it? :bang

Are you familiar with how long people actually live on death row?

We do believe in the death penalty, it just takes too long.

Doesn't matter what happens to her if she is mentally ill. Vengeance isn't justice and doesn't resurrect the kids from death. Everyone loses.
