I think the SB is done with "young talent" for a while. JT/JJ's stunt cost the network like $500K in fines that year. You're probably going to see classic rockers for another decade.

They could probably do better then 1/2 of the Who, however.

Ok... so the 'look' was wrong? How about the music?.... which I believe, is what a band does.... They sounded great!

I never watch the halftime show but I'm sure they did. I'm a fan of The Who and all, but now the band is just an old, shriveled shell of what it used to be.

Pistons < Spurs
02-07-2010, 10:38 PM
The problem is that there is no 'young talent' out there. Nothing but individuals or groups who have one or two big hits, then they fade away. I5 minutes of fame one hit wonders. The old geezers they've been throwing out there lately aren't necessarily what I'd choose to see, but they're at least able to withstand the test of time and play songs that are considered classics.

Using aged rockers makes sense in a way. Zombie movies are very popular these days.

Stringer_Bell
02-07-2010, 10:56 PM
For the lead vocals being lip synched, the voiceover captured the "live" sound pretty decent.

Bring on Taylor Swift and Fleetwood Mac so I can totally ignore the halftime show instead of even having a mild interest in it only to wish I could fast forward 15 minutes!

1) they're trying to appeal to older audiences
2) yes they sucked, singer can't sing for shit anymore, a disgrace
3) the who played a radio-hit generic set list, they have insane songs that the majority of americans have never heard
4) most super halftime performances in this day and age suck ballsack in this era anyway
5) I'd bet my scrot that Prince will easily go down as one of the best halftime performers in the 00's

We got spoiled after Prince. This shit sucks balls now
Just wait till Beyonce shakes her jelly filled thighs in a cyborg suit for the halftime show

And how many people watching are going to know or give a shit about that. Lower your expectation levels about 1000% and remember that necks and housewives watch and want to sing along. Not to mention the complexities of a 15 minute Radiohead set that weaves together songs that 99% of the public has never heard. Besides Karma Police and Creep, what songs would they even remotely consider doing that the public has heard of? Maybe they could cover Taylor Swift. And on top of that, Radiohead is the kind of band that would lop off their own dicks before they join forces with that form of commercialism. That's why it's funny.

They can do their own thing. Even if it isn't "hits". "The Bends" have some good stage songs. But you're right that they would laugh at the offer as how much they hate to be commercialized.

You people expect a great full set? It's a 15 min exhibition, and it was better than any of the soul-less pop and hip hop bullshit that has graced the stage before. Sure the Who are old, but their catalog is one of the greatest of all time, they spawned genres of rock music and are mind blowing musicians. At least it's a legendary band with balls, one of you cocksuckers suggested radiohead? Radiohead is what whiny, self loathing, confused gay People listen to while they curse their life and cut themselves. Yeah, nothing goes with the aggression of American football like pansy ass radiohead. I'd be all for just letting Trent Reznor jam for 15 min next year.

You mention Trent Reznor while totally dissing Radiohead? What the hell? I could easily stereotype NIN fans as fans that want to kill themselves and curse God and etc. But now that I think about it, a more upbeat metal band to fire the crowd up would be better. ACDC and Iron Maiden would be perfect.

I am sorry, I like radiohead and all, but if they tried to play at the SB they would be booed off the stage. I have listened to every album the have from track one to the end and can think of 2-3 songs that would be considered mildly appropriate for the venue. As far as NIN, you can make jokes about the fans wanting to kill themselves or hating god, but at least the music is aggressive (dont know if you realize that its not a concert, its a football game). NIN would get the crowd amped up, Radiohead would put THAT particular crowd to sleep, confuse them, or just get booed off stage.

We'll put it this way, of the people who could afford and would be likely to purchase tickets to the super bowl I willing to bet that you wouldn't find many Radiohead fans among them. As far as the people watching it on TV, IM notwithstanding, you aren't likely to find an NFL fan that is simultaneously a Radiohead fan. Nihilist electronica with a guitar influence just doesn't resonate with the average football fan, go figure.
