As part of Raising the Bar, I have been asked to name the Spurs player of the week. Every Sunday, a player from the Spurs will be named as top performer of the week. So here goes the first weekly edition...

The Spurs had three games this week. They started the Rodeo Road Trip with a win against a hot shooting Sacramento team, 115-113. The next night, however, wasnt as fortunate. The Spurs played fairly well, but couldnt close the game, and lost 93-96 to the Portland Trail Blazers. The recovered last night with a blow out win over the Los Angeles Clippers. A few Spurs players had good games this week, but my decision came down to two Spurs. Manu Ginobili and George Hill. And the first ever Spur of the Week is....

http://a.espncdn.com/media/apphoto/d29ebe88-000b-41da-a38d-a1f5fd7b97e6.jpg

George Hill. He played great in the abscence of Tony Parker, and didn't lose a beat when he game back. Hill's lines of the week are...

Sac: 42 min, FG-(7-16) 23 points, 9 assists, 4 steals, 4 rebounds, 1 block
Por: 38 min, FG-(6-12) 16 points, 1 rebound, 1 block
LAC: 29 min, FG-(8-11) 22 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, 1 block

His defense has been up to par of what we had expected from him all season, and his offense has been increasing ever since being placed in the starting line-up. The tipping point from deciding him over Manu was when he took the Clippers out of the game all together with his 17 point first quarter. Lets hope Hill continues his production, and maybe he could repeat as Spur of the Week, with two games (LAL and Denver) before the All-Star game.

P.S. If anyone can think of a good title for these write-ups, that would be greatly appreciated. Also, Im not sure if the picture is working, I cant seem to figure that one out. Hope you guys enjoy...Go Spurs Go!

Damn, just taking a look at the splits, when hill gets the start:

16.9 PPG
3.1 APG
2.5 RPG
0.7 STL
0.489% from the field

Pretty damn good numbers for a sophmore shooting guard in a team where he's maybe the 5th/6th option lol

It'd be really cool if they'd be notified about being the SpursTalk.com Spur of the Week :toast

maybe a photoshopped certificate :lol

On the offensive side, it's good see that Hill has increased his FG% from .403(08-09) to .473(09-10) and 3P% from .329(08-09) to .381(09-10). Furthermore, he currently has the third best FT%(.781) on the team.

Hill has been doing exact things that I expected from the guy whose name is Dick.

Hill along with blair are the only two bright spots in spurs uniforms this year.
He's been impressive lately. Good to have the guy in the team. if only RJ put similar effort to the table.

Really, those numbers are just crazy impressive. I was actually shocked when I saw his numbers as a starter.

For what it's worth, John Salmons last year as a starter averaged 18.3 points, 3.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 1.1 steals and shot 47% from the field.

Agree with G. Hill as the spur of the week! I hope he will continue with his strong play, especially on this coming game against the lakers.

100% agree: Hill for Spurs of the Week!

The kid has had some great games lately. Right now, he is bringing exactly what RJ was supposed to bring (16-17 pts, athletism, defense on the wings).
But let's not get too excited just yet. He has had pretty ugly games too.

At the end of the day, it's too early to say that he has what it takes to be the perenial 17 ppg, 3 apg, 3 rpg starter while giving it all on defense. Plus nobody knows if he will deliver coming PO time?

With RJ being a total bust, the Spurs shall pray for Hill to be that kind of player.

I agree with you, Hill was the Spurs of the week. He's playing great in the last month or so

Nice work, ajballer. :tu

Hill still doesn't impress in every facet of his game lately (namely, his rebounding), but hell, it's his second year in the league, and he has been pretty darn great as a starter.
