Hell, I'm for that or some top DCI groups. That'll never happen though. If it's a music act, at least make it one that still has merit.

Some day science will genetically alter crops like barley and hops enough that beer will finally be able to play football for real. That will be a great day for Super Bowl half time entertainment.

AC/DC suck as much as The Who. It doesn't matter who performs, I will always change the channel.

The worst? I generally try not to be a bigot, but I can't help but call the guy who crams himself into a 2x2 foot Plexiglas box, an absolute faggot. I feel uncomfortable for parents when that guy's on the court. If he's around still.

How about trying to find an Act that isn't 30 years past their primes?

Jay Z and Beyonce would be great.

Yeah, like in my personal life, I'm more apt to listen to The Who than either Jay-Z or Beyonce, but it's the Super Bowl for crying out loud, God forbid they get somebody who's, y'know, current and/or distincly American.

Oh well, thanks Christian right. Because of your feigned outrage over .2 seconds of a nipple, we now have to suffer through British rockers for however many more years.

Yeah, I think the British thing is the weirdest... it's an America-only sport and we've got washed up Englishmen playing the halftime show like they're some kind of local hero..

I admittedly, and sadly missed the halftime show, but were they really that bad? The last time I saw them play was that televised charity thing after 9/11 and they still rocked ass. Are people feigning outrage because they are old? Also, it is smart for the NFL to schedule these acts. The greatest share of this country's wealth is held by the people who are moving into retirement and grew up with these acts.

I have nothing against Jay-Z, don't particularly like his music, but just like Eminem, Beyonce only sings about 1 damn subject and it grows tiresome.

If I could choose the entertainment, I'd have picked Muse.

PROS
-They know how to rock stadiums.
-Their music is loud, aggressive, and epic.
-They put on one hell of a show.

CONS
-Not popular with the older folk
-British

y'all need to be careful, if you don't quit complaining about the halftime show they will probably start a reality TV show where the winner performs at the Super Bowl, then you will begin regaling your kids/grandkids of the day when The Who ROCKED Dolphin stadium.

they should condense the state of the union into 15 minutes and give that at the halftime show. that would be truly american...

or bring buffalo bill out of retirement and shoot up some indians.

Now this is true. Especially if the dig up Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty.

Someone mentioned NIN last night. I'd be cool w/ that. Hell, I'd take a number of 90's alt rock bands over last night's performance. I suppose that doesn't fit into the "we need somebody current" category, but that's the decade I'm stuck in.

MUSE would also rock a majority of faces off.

It's too bad Freddie Mercury had to go off and get AIDS. Talk about timeless rock.

I didn't think The Who were that bad...

But I do think the Halftime Show would be better as a reflection of the current times. It would be cool if you could look back on past HT performances and be able to know exactly what year it was because the band(s) in the act were popular at that time.

The NFL has sort of trapped itself in the "One Huge Band" philosophy, but there are only so many acts that have such a broad appeal. Why not let four or five of today's most relevant new bands take a swing at doing a song a piece? Wouldn't 5 minutes of OK Go make for good entertainment?

Trouble is, people are now used to the HT act being one of the biggest bands of the last 50 years. So relatively unheard-of bands would be greeted with confusion rather than curiosity. We've trained the audience to expect the expected. The NFL needs viewers to stay tuned in during halftime, so they need bands they can easily promote.

Also, just because it's modern doesn't mean it has to be sexed up. The after-effects of the Janet/Justin incident may have been too harsh, but the initial reaction was perfectly fair. There are 100 million people watching the Super Bowl, it's not the time for provocative MTV bullshit. An act can be diverse, fresh, and entertaining without tits and dry humping.

George Strait, Reba McEntire, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood would all be great choices, and you know they wouldnt do anything stupid to ruin it for everybody.

Yeah, but for some their performance alone would ruin it for them. I don't think The Who did anything stupid but they still seemed to have ruined it for quite a few. :lol

They should just forget the concert approach... People's taste in music is too different, people are always gonna be unhappy with the choice.

Make it sports related. Have a fan contest, but not a lame one, like having 2 scouted half-retards tryin to do the most average of things like shoot a free throw or throw a ball through a crater 10 yards away and making it look like the hardest thing on earth.... something badass

Have a 100 or 40 yard dash competition between the fastest guys in the NFL not in the game. Have a long throw contest between all the rookie QBs...

I don't know... the concerts suck tho, I never watch that shit.

IMHO, it doesn't matter what they do because they can't satisfy everyone but the current theme seems to be working okay for the Superbowl. If they have a current act it will leave many saying "WTF was that!?" and if they have George Strait or Taylor Swift people will say "WTF is up with the Country music!?".
IMHO, they should just have a cheer off between the cheerleaders and let the men enjoy the show.

ShoogarBear
02-08-2010, 10:06 PM
Actually, it doesn't matter what they do because it's the freaking SUPER BOWL.
I guess they have to justify the ad rates, but they could put on 30 minutes of K-Fed and still have huge ratings.

You won't see ANY hip hop for like another 10 years. JT and JJ made damn sure of that in 2005.
