San Antonio Spurs @ Los Angeles Lakers
2/8/2010
9:30PM CST / 10:30 PM EST
TV: TNT, RTV
Radio: WOAI

http://www.chron.com/photos/2009/01/14/14818826/260xStory.jpg

The San Antonio Spurs will lace them up again under the bright lights of the Staples Center, but this time they'll be taking on the older Los Angeles brother, and they should definitely be ready for a much more formidable matchup. At 39-13, the Los Angeles Lakers are defending champs and the class of the West, and are probably looking to avenge a previous loss in San Antonio. This would be a huge statement win on the Road Trip, but the Spurs will have to play smart for 48 minutes if they hope to board the plane with a Hollywood sweep.

Hopefully Kobe and Bynum won't play. It will at least give the spurs a chance. They need wins and their is no more time for statement games. Of course, Kobe will most likely play because he takes the Spurs games personally.

good news for lakerfan. Barkley has never made a correct prediction in his life.

Ironically, the Lakers problem this year has been the inability to score while they're playing pretty good defense most nights.

Complete turnaround from last year when they were offensive juggernauts and decent defensively.

Maybe Barkley's onto something.

Andrew Bynum Out Against San Antonio (http://my.lakers.com/blogs/2010/02/08/andrew-bynum-out-against-san-antonio/)
Mike Trudell

Andrew Bynum, who suffered a hip contusion against Portland on Saturday evening, will miss Monday’s game against San Antonio, according to Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson.

Bynum had missed only two of L.A.’s first 52 games.

Kobe Bryant a Game-Time Decision vs. S.A. (http://my.lakers.com/blogs/2010/02/08/kobe-bryant-a-game-time-decision-vs-sa/)
Mike Trudell

Kobe Bryant, who on Saturday in Portland missed his first game since Dec. 8, 2006, had an MRI exam on his sprained ankle Monday morning and is a game-time decision for the San Antonio game.

Phil Jackson said after Monday’s shootaround that the results of the exam would not be available until later on in the evening. Jackson will likely address the issue during his pregame media session at STAPLES Center.

Bryant, Bynum will sit vs. Spurs (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/2010/02/bryant-bynum-wi.html)
By Jeff McDonald

The Spurs will face the Lakers tonight without Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum. Lakers coach Phil Jackson confirmed in his pre-game meeting with reporters that both stars will sit with varying degrees of injury.

Bryant, the NBA's fourth-leading scorer, is officially out with a sprained left ankle, but has suffered a host of maladies over the past two months. Bynum, who scored 23 points against the Spurs earlier this season, is out with a bruised right hip.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich did not exactly lick his chops when informed of the Lakers' short-handedness.

"I'd rather have it the other way," Popovich said. "It's more a situation where, if you win the game, I don't think you take a whole lot from it. And if you lose the game, you feel like hell."

This better be a dominating, convincing win. I know elite/championship teams have repeatedly shown that they're capable of winning with multiple and/or key injury(ies) over the years, but for this Spurs team, if they want to be taken seriously again, then they need to pummel the Lakers. A win isn't good enough, it's that time of year where it's now about aesthetics, in addition to winning.

9 point lead gone in the blink of an eye to a team with one guy who's good at creating his own shot (Odom). Unbelievable.

Duncan needs to pick it up. He looks slow, tentative on defense and unwilling to fight to prime post position on offense, even though Odom is guarding him. He needs to put his ass in the basket.

Teams usually play with more energy when their best player is out early in the game..the 2nd half is where you'll usually start to see the difference..hopefully keep it close until them, and then the Spurs will blow it open..hopefully..

Duncan better be aggressive in this game..when he went up against Bynum, he stayed aggressive and attacked him..he has to do the same to a weaker Gasol..

+1000

They have to tire out eventually without the best player in the NBA.

Collins is sickening to listen to with his Spurs guards vs Lakers bigs nonsense. With Bynum out, it's the Spurs who have a better front line (Duncan, McDyess and Blair is better than Gasol and Odom) and the way he just neglects to mention Duncan, like he's not a significant big. Pretending as if he's got to worry about defending Gasol, but not Gasol defending Duncan. Unbelievable; you'd think Gasol is the all-time great who's always been the better of the two.
