I don't know, that's a little harsh.

It wasn't just RJ at PF, I'm pretty sure there was some Finley too! :lol

Where's the "no shit" icon?
Even if we had him, pop would rather play Jefferson or Finely at PF and leave Tim at the rim by himself. :rolleyes

Somebody tell me why we signed Ratliff? You're telling me he couldn't have blocked a shot or two or grabbed a board today, instead of playing RJ and Fin at PF?

He has to be saved for the playoffs.

Where he'll still sit on a bench while RJ and Finley bang with the big boys.

Sooooo, oh, you're right. My bad.

It's bad enough to possibly have a 1st round talent big sitting on the bench but what makes it worse is when your team wouldn't be affected by his deficiencies at all because it is getting its ass kicked already!

Thats what I dont understand.. why the hell would pop play small ball and just watch the spurs while they struggle to get a stop in the paint and at getting rebounds? Its so damn obvious ratliff would have made a huge difference on the court. What the hell is pop saving him for? The playoffs? The spurs might not even make the playoffs. :bang

Lets all go to the spurs practice facility and protest seriously.

Wouldn't that be crazy if 50+ people organized outside the practice facility holding up signs asking for a defensive Big to take the pressure off our scorers trying to do 100 things at once and managing to do none of them? And wouldn't it be crazier if Pop came out and told us wtf is the deal with playing small ball and it turns out he's been resting Ratliff and Manhimi for the playoffs...like secret weapons! :bang

Yep. Everyone knows this, but it seems to not matter. We still play Small Ball, even though its a system that doesn't work in the Playoffs or against good teams. This is a Big Man's Game, and we need Big Men to win.

What the fuck was the point of signing Theo Ratliff if we weren't going to use him? Seriously, what the fuck? I really want to know the answer to this question because its really starting to piss me off.

Time for Pop to pull out his greatest CIA move ever. He needs to go to Danny Ferry and say if you value the life as you know it, you're trading Lebron for Jefferson straight up. If not, so help me god I'm going Jack Bauer on you and I'm also bringing up dirt you didn't even know you had.

It's a miracle Pop even plays Blair. Really think about it. Pop just loves old vets, no matter their size. He's trying to milk these guys for everything they have left, but there isn't anymore. While that's happening guys that maybe could make a difference aren't playing. I can't defend Pop anymore..

I have him on my fantasy team and he scores a ton but takes ill-advised shots and commits a sick number or turnovers.

I'd take Maggette b/c he gets to the line a bunch.

Having Blair and Bonner as our Bench Bigs is 100% fail defensively. Blair is good, but no matter how good he is, he is only 6"7, and that hurts us A LOT defensively. Having Bonner in there with him really is just a joke.

I thought this was why we signed Ratliff? And what about Mahinmi? Does Pop hate Big Men or something? He stresses Defense so much but then puts in these crappy small ball lineups? Doesn't he understand how stupid that is?

Ugh, save us Tiago.

Barkely doesn't watch the Spurs on a consistent basis. He watches the Spurs at least 10 times a year in the regular season give and take.

He's taking what he saw out of last nights game, which we played small ball for at least 20 minutes out of the entire 48 minutes.

McDyess has been playing great the past few weeks. He's more than capable just as much or more than any big man realistically available. Spurs also have Mahimni and Ratliff who they never use.

Pop needs to use his personnel correctly. He has been one of the best X's and O's coach in league history but the past two years, he's been one of the worst at game management in terms of substitutions in certain situations.

I take Barkely's opinion with a grain of salt.

Hopefully we have all learned a valuable lesson. No matter how many good perimeter players you have (TP/Manu/RJ/Hill) The game is won in the paint by the big men scoring down low and protecting there own basket defensively. Remember when.......Duncan/Robinson - Duncan/Mohammed - Duncan/Oberto. Then the bottom fell out - Duncan/Bonner - Duncan/RJ. RJ stinks yes, but playing PF was not what he was brought in for. He is expected to stop guys who are 6-10 and taller while he gets no opportunity to punish them on the other end. He sucks, but that still not fair to him. The spurs were good cause they would build a defensive wall starting from the perimeter forcing guys to the side and eventually to the baseline or underneath the basket surrounded by big men. Now just run a simple pick n roll at the top and you have a clear path to the basket against the spurs with minimal if any help. Small ball can win games here and there, but in the playoffs and against solid contending teams it means nothing. Note - the 2004-2007 suns. Yeah they were exciting to watch but where did it get them?

02-09-2010, 07:58 AM
pop plays smallball cause he's an idiot. If even you the fans can realize that smallball aint the answer, I guess that makes Popo the dumbest person in the world. Uh Pop, you played and knocked off the Suns how many times cause they were playing smallball. Lots right. So why do you think emulating the Suns is gonna help you win? You are a complete dismal-dreaming bum-baily....

Can't watch the spurs anymore its driving me crazy......pop is killing this team with this smallball....pop don't you get it small ball doesn't work we need bigs in the line up

Also running Bruce Bowen plays for Jefferson don't work. He's stuck in the CS days of 05 & 06. Jefferson don't need 2 go, Parker with his I wanna play for my NT ass needs to go. He can't set anybody up but Duncan. Pop needs to get new plays. He run all kinda plays for Hill but we Paid millions more for Jefferson. That's crazy. He has no Sf plays in his playbook but sit in the corner & the ones he's always ran for Finely. Jefferson has had a couple sig plays ran for him an he made good on them. POP ITS TIME FOR A NEW!

Pop Needs to Step Down, and the Spurs Need To Acquire A center... someone Who Is At Least 6'11 who plays Defense, And Rebounds well. Im tired Of Our Centers being Between 6'6 and 6'9...... Sean Elliott is 6'8 might as well bring him out of retirement and start him at center. At least he will knock down a Open shot!

I would not mind Pop moving to the front office and Avery Johnson coming in. It would need to happen after this season though. I want to see Pop turn the corner and at least compete in the playoffs. I don't want him to go out like this. He needs to change his thinking though.

dbestpro
02-09-2010, 12:05 PM
This is why you can no longer really point the finger at any player. The problem starts with Pop and will not start to be solved until Pop ditches the small ball. It does not matter whether he uses more of his own bigs or gets them in a trade. The Spurs are effectively frozen until Pop is able to change his mind.

Whoever we get needs to be smart and mentally strong. Obviously some players just aren't fit for our complicated system, or the pressure of playing on a "contender".

I think most coaches would get more out of the Spurs current personnel including RJ than our dumbfuck coach Pop. He's sooo stupid continuously shuffling the lineup, playing small ball, overplaying undersized poor shooters, not playing the true bigs we have and overworking Tim. No trade will help the Spurs if that player is going to be coached by this moron. McDyess and RJ have been huge disappointments but they should still have had better production at this time.

Well c'mon we don't want to be unfair to the Lakers. They didn't have Bynum remember, it would have been pretty rude for us to take advantage of that by using bigger lineups.

Fortunately Pop realized it before it was too late and played small ball for THE ENTIRE FOURTH FUCKING QUARTER AGAINST THE GOD DAMNED LA LAKERS!:bang
