DC and Marvel Do Battle

Holy blockbuster, Batman! A buzzy article (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/10/business/media/10warner.html?pagewanted=1) from the New York Times revealed that director Christopher Nolan (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800021821) is hard at work on another flick.
Of course, it's not like this is a huge surprise. There was no way Hollywood wasn't going to make a sequel to "The Dark Knight (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809271891/info)," the third-highest-grossing movie of all time (http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/domestic.htm). Still, Nolan's participation will likely cause a huge sigh of relief among moviegoers. Remember when, back in the '90s, director Joel Schumacher replaced Tim Burton and nearly killed the franchise?
The forthcoming blockbuster (not yet titled) also illustrates the escalating battle between Warner Bros. -- which produces many movies based on DC Comics, including "Batman" -- and Disney, which recently acquired DC's biggest rival, Marvel Comics.
Indeed, both studios have a slew of superhero flicks coming soon to theaters. In the New York Times article, it's revealed that "Wonder Woman" (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=wonder+woman&cs=bz&fr=buzz) and "The Flash (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=the+flash+dc&cs=bz&fr=buzz)," both longtime favorites from DC, are "expected to (be) announced" in the coming months. Additionally, DC's "The Green Lantern (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=the+green+lantern+movie&cs=bz&fr=buzz)," starring Ryan Reynolds (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800025139) as the hero and Blake Lively (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1808631078) as his lovely love interest, is scheduled for a 2011 release. There's even a rumor that Mr. Nolan may supervise the development (http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/its-a-bird-its-a-plane-its-chris-nolan-hell-mentor-superman-3-0-while-preparing-3rd-batman/) of a "Superman" reboot.
Clearly DC has a lot of irons in the fire. But Marvel isn't surrendering the cineplex anytime soon. Not only does Sony's forthcoming "Spider-Man" reboot have a hot director at the helm (Mark Webb of "500 Days of Summer"), it'll also come to theaters in 3D (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i0040e099982664b684cff507e86c3a14). Barring any delays, the flick, which will focus on Spider-Man's high school trials and tribulations, will spin its way onto the big screen in 2012.
What's that, Marvel superfan? Can't wait that long? No problem; "Iron Man 2 (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810026429/info)" has you covered. Paramount's sequel to the surprise 2008 hit starring Robert Downey Jr. (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800010914) lands in theaters this summer and already has a sizable following in Search. Over the past month, online queries on the film are among Yahoo's top 3,000. Additionally, Web interest in the trailer shows no signs of slowing down. Kind of like the war between DC and Marvel.

Spiderman and Superman reboots? *biggest eye rolling and sigh ever*...why?

The Dark Knight is a sequel. You can't make a sequel of a sequel.

Iron Man 2 and The Dark Knight "sequel" actually look good. Everything else is just one huge cash grab from people who can't think of any original ideas. Next thing you know, there'll be a movie on Robin's childhood and how he got introduced to Batman. :rolleyes

Nolan's said he has no intention of putting Robin into the Nolan-verse Batman movies.

Also, Iron Man 2 (Alcoholic Boogaloo) is going to be worth it for Mickey Rourke as Whiplash/Crimson Dynamo alone.

Also, also, at least the Spidey reboot won't be as bad as the third one. I was kind of hoping to see John Malkovich as the Vulture, though.

I wasn't being serious. Just making fun of Hollywood milking every last idea from other sources. Like they did on Robot Chicken, next summer there's gonna be a Hungry Hungry Hippos movie and a Chutes and Ladders movie

The third Spider-Man did suck; I waited years to see Venom vs. Spider-Man, and they had a goofy 5 minute fight before they killed Venom off. I don't want to list all the stupid things they did in that movie, I don't have the space.

It is kind of weird that the director (Webb) said they're doing the whole movie about Parker before he gets his abilities, though. I have to wonder whether anyone other than die-hard fans will want to see a superhero movie without an actual superhero.

:lol Just kidding, he never said that.

Spidey 3 was a POS

As you said, 5 minutes of action

Actually, it was a chick flick with a few action scenes
