Jerry Gray also stopped at South Houston HS last night to check on 2011 CB Leroy Scott. He also wanted to meet 2012 CB Kenneth Marshall (he's been rumored to be an OU lean for a long time).

Big news of the morning is on 2011 DE Brandon Alexander of Brenham. Rumors have been rampant that he's already informed members of the Texas staff, UT players and high school teammates that he's going to be a Longhorn. It obviously hasn't been confirmed, but UT apparently made an incredible impression on him over the weekend considering they had major ground to make up on other schools (especially A&M). A&M had their in-home visit yesterday and Mack Brown will be at Brenham HS today. Now, the non-Longhorns who read this thread will probably roll their eyes at me and think I'm biased when I say this, but when Coach Brown visits high schools it's a big deal. It's basically mini-celebrity status. I've read numerous accounts of schools literally shutting down when he comes to visit a recruit. Brown makes it a point to visit with the principals, teachers, coaches, etc. and time is always set aside for autographs and pictures. I don't expect anything less when he strolls into Brenham HS this morning. It reminds me a lot of when he visited Plano West HS in 2010 to see DE Jackson Jeffcoat. Brown's visit will go a long way in UT's recruitment of Alexander (especially when Alexander sees how Brown is treated by everyone) and Texas rarely fails to come out on top in a situation like this. It's also important that 2012 DT Malcom Brown and 2012 LB Tim Cole will be at school to witness this visit. I'm sure Coach Brown will make it a point to sit down with them too. It's imperative that Texas maintains their pipeline to Brenham HS with even stronger classes of players coming down the pipe in the next two to three years.

If you already read the report above, I meant to say Mack Brown will be at Brenham HS today (Wednesday). I keep thinking today is Tuesday. I changed it above.

Bo Davis was in San Antonio yesterday to talk with 2011 DT Quincy Russell. He also made a point to visit with 2012 DT Javonte Magee. Magee is thought to be a lock for an offer from UT and it helps that Russell is already in the mix for the Longhorns. Magee will be at Baylor's Junior Day this weekend. There's no word yet on when he'll decide to commit to a school. It's worthy to note that he's not a native Texan. He's a transplant from Louisiana due to Hurricane Katrina. He's never been definitive about a favorite school, but things may change if SEC schools come calling.

Here's a cool write-up from Recruitocosm predicting the 2012 class:
http://recruitocosm.fantake.com/2011/01/26/allocating-golden-tickets-by-position/
*Starting to read that 2011 DE Brandon Alexander could commit to Texas as early as today. Hopefully we'll hear some good news later this afternoon once Mack Brown leaves Brenham HS.

UPDATE: Manny Diaz, Bo Davis and Oscar Giles are all at Brenham HS as well. Looks like UT is throwing the kitchen sink at Alexander today.

Stacy Searels went to visit 2011 OL Spencer Drango of Cedar Park HS yesterday. Drango is a four-star talent and not necessarily considered to be better than guys currently on board, but he is a D1 prospect with good size who's currently committed to Baylor. No word if Texas is going to offer yet.

A couple of updates and reminders:
*The in-home visit with 2011 DE Brandon Alexander went as expected and Texas is thought to have a significant lead in his recruitment. With that said, Alexander is going to honor his official visits to Baylor today and Arkansas over the weekend. Hopefully we'll hear some good news by the time he gets back to Brenham.
*Sounds like 2011 OL Spencer Drango of Cedar Park is seriously considering Texas' idea of him becoming a Longhorn. Drango's father mentioned that they'll use the next few days to talk about things as a family before deciding on an official visit to UT. Drango is apparently struggling with this decision because while UT is his dream school, he wants to remain loyal to Baylor as he's been committed to them since July. This one will develop quickly since National Signing Day is less than a week away and there's no time to mess around.
*Mack Brown will be making his East Texas tour today. He'll stop off in Carthage to see 2011 LB Kendall Thompson, Daingerfield to visit 2011 LB Steve Edmond and lastly Hallsville to see 2011 OL Josh Cochran.
*Also a reminder that 2012 QB Connor Brewer of Chaparral HS in Scottsdale, Arizona will be in Austin this weekend for an unofficial visit. He mentioned he's excited to meet with Bryan Harsin in person and says he plans on talking with him a lot throughout his recruitment. He's also looking forward to more of an extended visit compared to his first time in Austin back on October 30th when he was in town for the UT/Baylor game.

Stacy Searels stopped by Athens HS this morning to visit with 2012 ATH Kendall Sanders. No word yet if he's been invited to Junior Days, but I assume Searels being there is a good sign that Texas will be pursuing him. He's likely to be projected as a defensive back in college.

I'm taking 2012 DE Mario Edwards, Jr. of Denton Ryan off of the Junior Day list because it's been stated that he won't be attending ANY Junior Days for ANY school. He's familiar with Mack Brown and the UT program so I wouldn't worry about it at this point. This one is a Texas/Florida State battle all the way.

We have our second legitimate out-of-state prospect on the board for the 2012 class. Stacy Searels has extended a Junior Day invite and verbal offer (dependent upon him showing up in Austin) to the following player:
OL, D.J. Humphries, Mallard Creek (Charlotte, NC) (6-5, 265)

Some pretty cool news I just read. Apparently Mack Brown called 2011 DE Jermauria Rasco's mother at some point this week and asked if they could take an official visit to Austin before National Signing Day. Ms. Rasco said they didn't have enough time because of other visits so Coach Brown decided to take his crew to Shreveport, LA tonight for a visit. He, Manny Diaz and Oscar Giles will get one last shot with Rasco this evening. It was looking like things had cooled off with this one, but there may be an outside chance since Coach Brown has personally taken the reigns. Rasco will take his official visit to Florida this weekend before ultimately making a decision. I think Texas is a darkhorse in this one, but we'll see what happens. Keep in mind Ms. Rasco is moving to Texas after her son graduates.

With that kind of effort, it makes it seem that Mack and crew have lost Alexander and are giving all they got for Rasco. Hopefully i'm wrong, as I think Alexander would be the easier target.

Really interested to see what Alexander does. Signs point to Texas now but the guy was very interested in A&M early on in his recruitment, he might not be as quick to commit to Texas as some think. I really hope he comes to A&M with all the good things I have heard about the kid. Hopefully we find out soon what the verdict is.

The encouraging thing is I don't think these two prospects are linked in any way. Rasco has nothing to do with Alexander, IMO. I think it's just a matter of UTs staff giving max effort in hopes of landing one. Defensive line is a thin position right now and Texas would gladly accept both guys if it were to somehow work out that way.

Here's a third out-of-state prospect to familiarize yourself with. I read tonight that Texas could pursue 2012 DT Eddie Goldman of Washington, D.C. Apparently Texas already has two things working for them with this prospect. First, Bo Davis was recruiting Goldman while at Alabama so there's already a relationship there (the extent of it I don't know). Secondly, Goldman's high school coach played his college ball at San Diego State with one of UT's grad assistants. There's already been contact there and apparently UT's staff could visit Goldman as soon as this Spring. Just another one to keep an eye on. And my dear Lord look at that offer list!

I do think Texas has the lead right now, but it's always in the back of my mind that A&M has been recruiting him longer. This is UT/A&M all the way and I think the Baylor and Arkansas visits are just Alexander being thorough, having some fun and finishing out the process. We'll know within a week what he's going to do.

Couple of things for Friday morning....
*Stacy Searels made his way up to Texarkana yesterday to visit with 2012 OL John Michael McGee. He projects as an interior lineman in college. As of right now, Texas has not invited him to either Junior Day.
*The in-home visit with 2011 DE Jermauria Rasco went well and Ms. Rasco said she was "truly impressed" with the character of Manny Diaz and appreciated Mack Brown being the same person throughout the entire process. She also mentioned not to read too much into them not taking an official visit to Texas because they've been there numerous times before and are very familiar with UT. "What more could do they do for us or show to us?" is what Ms. Rasco had to say. It was more about Jermauria visiting schools that he had yet to see. With all of that said, I think Texas is trailing and would expect Rasco to commit to LSU or Florida State in the coming days. Things may have turned out differently if the UT coaching staff didn't see such a high turnover. Losing Will Muschamp was a big factor.
*The UT football team has their first casualty of the new year. It's been reported that LB Tariq Allen (a redshirt freshman) has left the team. No word on the reason why. He was an Army All-American out of Irving.

Here's a fourth out-of-state prospect that's been talked about a lot. Unlike the previous three (Connor Brewer, Eddie Goldman and D.J. Humphries), I'm not so sure if Texas will pursue him. He's a name to at least pay attention to and Manny Diaz might have been recruiting him for Mississippi State.

*Mack Brown will be in San Antonio today to finish his recruiting tour. He'll stop by Stevens HS to see 2011 ATH Mykkele Thompon and then go to Cibolo Steele HS to check on 2011 RB Malcolm Brown.
*2011 DT Quincy Russell will be headed to Austin today for his official visit. He missed last weekend's official visit due to his knee surgery.

I wanted to bring up a rumor that's been discussed seriously this week, but apparently has been around for the past few months. TE coach Bruce Chambers is possibly taking another job with Dallas ISD or Arlington ISD as soon as National Signing Day comes to a close. So, who's the replacement? Rumor has it that Tim Brewster was in Austin this week. For those of you who aren't familiar with him, Brewster was the TE coach at Texas from 1998-2001 before going on to the NFL for five years. He had been the head coach at the University of Minnesota since 2007 until he was fired mid-season in 2010. Longhorns' DB Nolan Brewster is his son (an extra incentive for him to come back to Austin). He's known as being an excellent TE coach but is most famous for his recruiting ability. He was one of the major players in getting Vince Young to to come to Texas along with other studs in that famous 2002 class. He would be a huge get and yet another key addition to this awesome staff. If any of you haven't noticed, Texas hasn't deemed anyone a special teams coach yet. This is where Brewster would come in along with coaching TEs.

It won't and I think this is something that's been in the works for a while. Kids aren't going to decommit because of a TE coach leaving. Bruce Chambers, besides being the TE coach, is also the Recruiting Coordinator for UT. If he's truly leaving, he's sticking around to make sure the 2011 class is set in stone first before he does anything. I could see Tim Brewster coming in and not missing a beat since that was his position at UT before Chambers.

There's still no word on whether or not 2011 OL Spencer Drango of Cedar Park will be taking an official visit to Texas this weekend. We'll know something by tomorrow or Sunday considering this is the last weekend before National Signing Day. 2011 LB Chet Moss and 2011 TE M.J. McFarland were both at Drango's basketball game tonight and they were all spotted chatting after the game was over. Moss has been working hard to convince his high school teammate Drango to switch his commitment to Texas for the past week. The Drangos apparently walked out of the gym tonight with some members of the Baylor staff.

Thanks for the post, Whisky. It'll all work out the way it's supposed to. The bright side is this leaves another scholarship for the 2012 class if UT decides not to go after anyone else. Some other quick stuff:
*2012 OL Trey Keenan of Argyle was a surprise visitor today on campus. He was in Austin trying out for a future all-star game and decided to stop by and talk to the UT staff. He'll head to Baylor's Junior Day tomorrow. 2012 ATH Kiante Griffin of Lewisville Hebron may also do the same thing. He's a guy that I've heard is a flat-out stud, but there hasn't been much contact with UT so far. It'll be a great thing if he's able to visit with the staff as well. Apparently he has some grade issues that need get worked out. Otherwise, he's a guy Texas would seriously pursue.

*Darrell Wyatt went by Austin High earlier this week to visit with 2012 WR Cayleb Jones. No word yet what his Junior Day plans are. My idea is he'll be one the first prospects to come in the weekend of February 11th-13th and get offered on a Friday night (much like the UT staff did with Jaxon Shipley last year). Like I've said before, he's a priority for this class.

*As of 6:30 Saturday night, I have not seen reports of Texas A&M getting a commitment from anyone today (good news for the Longhorns). We might see something tomorrow, but nothing as of right now. Commitment news usually comes out the same day a Junior Day occurs, so it's encouraging that we haven't seen anything.
*I think Oklahoma has a good chance at picking up OL John Michael McGee, OL Kyle Marrs, LB Jeremiah Tshimanga and DB Kenneth Marshall tomorrow. We'll see what happens there. Other than that, I wouldn't expect any prospects that UT has interest in to commit to another school this weekend.

2012 QB Connor Brewer of Scottsdale, Arizona made it to Austin last night and visited with Bryan Harsin the majority of the time. He went ahead and attended the Texas A&M Junior Day (he was offered) this afternoon but will be headed back to town tomorrow. His sister has a swim meet on campus. No news on whether or not he's been given an offer. Mack Brown has a policy of not offering prospects before Junior Days, so Brewer could be told he's going to get an offer but we won't know about it for a couple of weeks.

I wanted to add that 2012 DE Devonte Fields of Arlington Martin could be visiting the Oklahoma Junior Day tomorrow. He is considered to be a major OU lean. They're his childhood favorite and his high school teammate, 2011 RB Danzel Williams, is an OU commitment currently. He's already visited the Oklahoma campus a couple of times with Williams. Fields is another guy that could commit to the Sooners early.

A little summary of the weekend...
*2011 DT Quincy Russell did make it to Austin for his official visit and Jackson Jeffcoat was his host. He said he enjoyed his time with Bo Davis and is looking forward to National Signing Day. There are no plans to redshirt Russell in the Fall and the coaches told him that a spot in the rotation is up for grabs if he earns it.
*2012 QB Connor Brewer of Scottsdale, Arizona spent even more time with Bryan Harsin today breaking down film and talking about how he would be used in the future if he were to play for Texas. I wasn't sure if Brewer had plans to return to Austin for Junior Days, but turns out he is coming back for the second one on the weekend of February 25th-27th. Here's a quote he had today:
"I feel like Texas is a school where they want to offer sombody who is going to commit right then and there. I feel like there's a good chance of that happening," Brewer said. "If they offered me, that would be great. I feel like that would be a great place for me to go play. So now I just have to wait and see."
Interpret that how you will, but it says a lot about his intentions. Sounds like he's going to be a Longhorn when/if he's offered. I still think he ends up being the QB Texas goes with for 2012, but things will be interesting considering 2012 QB Trevor Knight will be in town for the first Junior Day. It's possible UT waits until Spring to evaluate these two players further before deciding which one to offer. I've also read an opinion that there's an outside chance UT offers both.
*It was announced today that redshirt freshman OL Dominic Espinosa will miss Spring practice due to shoulder surgery. He's already going through an intense rehab so that he's ready to play in the Fall, but he won't be ready for full contact when practice starts in a few weeks.
*Turns out 2012 OL Trey Keenan of Argyle had a change of plans and wasn't able to visit with the UT staff before heading to Waco for Baylor's Junior Day. I wouldn't worry about it too much considering he's been in consistent contact with the new staff and has plans on coming back for one of the two Junior Days. I do believe he ends up getting offered by UT as he's in that top tier of offensive linemen for the 2012 class.
*No news is good news when talking about 2011 DE Brandon Alexander of Brenham. He's back from his official visit to Arkansas over the weekend and he is still uncommitted. We'll find out in the next few days what his choice ends up being.
*Updates from Junior Days of other schools...Texas A&M and Oklahoma have received zero commitments as of tonight and I'm extrememly surprised by that (especially Oklahoma). TCU picked up a commitment from 2012 DT Joey Hunt of El Campo and Baylor got a pledge from 2012 RB LaDarius Anthony of Kilgore. Both are solid pick-ups for those schools.

*2011 DE Brandon Alexander is not expected at school today. Some are of the opinion that he's using the day to sort out his final decision. I told myself not to get my hopes up until Wednesday, but maybe we'll see some good news come down before then.
*Some more updates on the Oklahoma Junior Day. Here's a list of guys that received offers and those that went home empty-handed:
Offered
WR, Thomas Johnson, Dallas Skyline
OL, Kyle Marrs, San Antonio Brandeis (expected to commit at some point)
Not Offered
QB, Trevor Knight, San Antonio Reagan
LB, Jeremiah Tshimanga, North Richland Hills
LB, Jordan Richmond, Denton Ryan
CB, Kenneth Marshall, South Houston
ATH, Bralon Addison, Fort Bend Hightower
This is good news all around as Texas has legit interest in all of the prospects that weren't offered. Oklahoma will probably take a small class this year so they're having to be very selective. Addison is thought to be an OU lean because his sister currently plays basketball for the Sooners, but he won't be going there without an offer. I hope Texas gives him a good look as a DB. OL John Michael McGee of Texarkana had previously been offered by OU before this weekend.

Very slow news day. Seems to be the calm before the National Signing Day storm. Anyway, the only thing news worthy this morning is Florida State has pulled out of the race for 2011 DE Jermauria Rasco. I think they have other recruits that they consider more important. Not sure if would've mattered in the end, but Texas is now one of three (even if they're on the outside looking in). With Florida State out, everything points to LSU.

A few sites are reporting that 2011 DE Brandon Alexander has committed to Texas A&M. Alexander and his guardian called the staff earlier with the news. It'll be interesting to see how this affects the 2012 Brenham recruits. Solid pick-up for the Ags.

Sorry I'm late to the National Signing Day party, fellas. It's been a weird morning with ice, power outages, etc. Here's a summary of things in addition to what's been said above (thanks to Designated T and Whisky):
*All Letters of Intent for the 2011 Texas Longhorns have been signed, sealed and delivered. Major props to Mack Brown, Bruce Chambers, Major Applewhite and Oscar Giles for keeping this class together despite such significant turnover in staff. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it at a major program since I've followed college football. Hopefully that's a sign of good things to come. The class sits at 22 with hopes of adding a 23rd later today when 2011 DE Jermauria Rasco makes his decision at 2:00 p.m. (it's a longshot).
*2011 DE Brandon Alexander signed his Letter of Intent with Texas A&M this morning, so that one is officially in the books. The additional bad news out of Brenham last night was two of their 2012 prospects also gave their commitment to the Aggies. 2012 OL Adrian Bellard and 2012 ATH Troy Green called the A&M staff last night to inform them of their decision. It's not the commitment of these two prospects that should worry Texas Longhorn fans, but how their decision affects the thinking of 2012 DT Malcom Brown and 2012 LB Tim Cole. These guys have grown up together and talked about going to the same college for a long time. While Texas is only seriously pursuing Cole and Brown, one has to think this influences their decision. It can't be stressed enough how important the first Texas Junior Day will be for those two recruits. Hopefully they won't commit before next weekend.
*Apparently UT has been in contact with a kicker recently. 2011 K Ben Pruitt of the The Woodlands has been offered preferred walk-on status by the Longhorns. This simply means that he'll be on the team without having a scholarship. Unlike other walk-ons, he'll be priority when a scholarship opens up.

Is Connor Brewer a dual threat? I think Texas should go after a Colt Mccoy type. I guess they would have pursued Matt Davis for that if if didnt tear up his ACL i guessing.
I wouldn't consider 2012 QB Connor Brewer a true dual-threat, but he's shown he can get out of the pocket and gain good yardage. He's definitely the best overall QB prospect Texas is interested in. Watch the highlight tape I posted if you haven't seen it yet. He has some good runs. It'll be interesting to see how Texas pursues 2012 QB Matt Davis (if at all). Him tearing his ACL earlier this season didn't allow for UT's staff to evaluate his progress as a passer. If offers don't go out to Brewer or 2012 QB Trevor Knight at Junior Days, it's a good indication that the UT staff will likely wait so they can evaluate all three prospects in the Spring.
Whats up with Tevin Jackson? Is he gonna get on the field this year?
There have been several arguments for what's going on there. Some say the NCAA is drawing out the process and others believe it's Jackson's problem as he has yet to complete a course in order to fill out his high school transcript. There hasn't been a lot of movement reported and most don't expect him to get to UT anytime soon.

Big get for Texas Tech, who just received a commitment from four-star Pennsylvania DE Branden Jackson. The Red Raiders have definitely had the most eventful day of the local teams so far. They've reeled in 3 big out-of-state recruits today, with Jackson, fellow Pennsylvanian Desimon Green and Mississippi's Leon Mackey. They also got longtime OU commitment Cooper Washington to switch and sign with them

Some think Westerman actually projects better as an interior lineman. It'll all just depend upon what kind of system he's in and how he develops physically. Auburn killed it this year with their OL prospects. They're just cherry-picking right now.

Nope, that about does it. If you scroll up a few posts I talked about a kicker out of The Woodlands that Texas is interested in taking as a walk-on. All efforts are now focused on the 2012 class as the new staff is already behind on some prospects because of the high turnover in the offseason. We'll wrap up this thread soon and start another dedicated to that class. I'm going to work on it tonight.

brown is an incredible UT "politician" of sorts. he's a great recruiter that is really laxed and fun to talk to in person. on the administrative side, he's incredibly hard-nosed. he's loyal (see greg davis), so coaches will respect his authority for the most part. i think with the UT network and a fresh coaching staff, another lackluster season (which is def still possible this upcoming year) won't hurt the program at all.
back when i went to football camps, i remember coach brown would be there at all the practices and speak with us afterwards. usually he'd follow up with a Q&A session. the other coaches were there as well. applewhite would throw us balls during drills and whatnot. it was really surreal.
on the other hand, when i went to TCU and A&M's camps with fran in charge, the coaches would often only speak with the players they were trying to recruit. fran wouldn't talk to anyone and show up every now and then driving around in his golfcart :lol.

Just a heads up that I'm working on the 2012 thread. I'll have it up by Friday evening. The coaches have been waist deep in the the 2012 recruiting race since the 2011 class signed yesterday. More info to come.
Here's a link to the final Rivals rankings for each team based on the recruits they signed. They'll change a tad bit since certain recruits have yet to decide where they're going to school. Texas will have a Top 5 class no matter what. They're currently sitting at #3 overall even though they're #2 based on individual recruits with an average of 3.77 stars per prospect.
