Evens just said that he share the MVP award with Blair who pulled down 23 rebounds tonight. So blair is the co-MVP tonight

Go Blair.

He clanked the last FT on purpose so he could get another board and a bucket. Just ask Moses Malone if you can't pad rebounding stats.

He is not co-MVP. He IS the MVP of this game, no doubt.

Anybody can score 40+ points in this type of defence-less game. But getting a 20+ rebounds is a different thing. Blair broke the record set by Elton Brand (21 rebounds).

San Antonio’s DeJuan Blair told his fellow NBA rookies before the game that he was going to try to get every rebound. Then he went out and set a record.

Blair grabbed a record 23 rebounds and scored 22 points for the first 20-20 game in the Rookie Challenge, leading the first-year players to a rare 140-128 victory over the sophomores on Friday night.

“He started getting the rebounds for us. He did what he said he was going to do,” said Sacramento’s Tyreke Evans, who had 26 points and was the game’s MVP. “That’s why I wanted to share the (MVP) trophy with him.”

“Everyone came out and contributed,” Jennings said. “DeJuan Blair … that’s amazing right there.”

I think Evans deserved it as much as Blair. I have no problems with Blair padding his stats slightly at the end of the game at all but its not inconceivable to give Evans the MVP. He was integral to the rookies when the game was still in doubt and helped set the tone for the game (as did Blair).

Head of the Class? He Likes Being Called the Beast - DeJuan Blair Postgame Video #AS10
If it were ever more clear than at tonight's Rookie Challenge, DeJuan Blair is a beast. THAT"S why you don't trust internet personas. If he's running around looking butt hurt after the game and scowling, well, body language and facial expressions don't lie. People on FB and Twitter often do.

The great thing was that DeJuan got absolutley MOBBED at the buzzer. You could tell that his Rookie team mates genuinely liked him. He was probably the biggest reason that they won. If you looked at the game rosters, the Sophs CLEARLY had the size advantage, yet the Rookies outboarded them by 10, and won the game by 12. The next highest rebounder in the game after DeJuan's 23 was 7 by a couple of other players. Those extra possessions were critical.

I also wanted to make another point... it's pretty clear how the NBA wanted the "story" to be told. You look at NBA.com's (http://www.nba.com/allstar/2010/rookie.challenge/index.html) version of last night's game which tries to dismiss Blair off. 'Jennings and Evans set the tone.... fans chanted MVP for Blair...however Jennings and Evans set the pace and tone'.

Compare that to the AP's version of the story which ESPN is running, is vastly different and tells how Blair lead the rookies to victory.

As a fan of basketball it's just alarming that the NBA continues to undermine the game for their foolish belief of what makes them profitable.

You never see this happen in the NFL.

In a game where no one is making an effort to box out you knew Blair would gobble up some boards and he looked like he had glue on his hands. Once he's a full-time starter for the Spurs (or someone else) he will lead the league in rebounding. Love the fact he played hard and showed some handle.

Evans is going to be a beast in 3 years. Big, physical PGs don't come along that often. It was a VERY cool gesture for him to want to share the award with DeJuan. Apparently, there were some rumblings in Sacto that he was a ball hog. I don't think ball hogs want to share anything, so that's probably sour grapes from someone with less talent.

Might be somebody in Sacramento who would be upset and/or threatened by Evans' success.

Although I can't imagine who that would be.
