I'm going to reserve judgment until I watch the Mavs play but I'd like to get the NBA forum's thoughts on the matter asap. Either way, this would be the most interesting series to watch out West imo.
GREAT trade Cubes, huge props. Still not enough to contain Bynum unfortunately. :hat

Butler gives them another scorer, but I like a healthy Carmelo, Billups, Nene especially with Martin on Dirk. Don't see enough from the Mavs unless Butler is better than expected.

That's a interesting match-up,i can see them as the 2-3 seed so they would battle it out to play the Lakeshow

Doesn't matter. Denver won't feel compelled to double, like most other teams, meaning Dirk is gonna have to truly dominate every game in the series.
Haywood will be a factor in the paint if he can stay out of foul trouble. In order for Dallas to win, Butler is gonna have to be strong. If he has a series of average to bad games, no chance for Dallas.

Amazing how many FTs Dirk got in that series. He put up great numbers and Dallas still lost. Everyone falls for his pump fake, for good reason, but still rather make him shoot over defenders. Question is will dirk have enough help. I don't believe in Butler. Other guys will have to score too. Still amazing how many FTs Dirk made. Even you're gonna foul him, make it count. Give him one of those "remember me" hits.

As a Spurfan im not worried about Butler at all - because Howard is still a 22-7 guy against the Spurs and he's gone now. Haywood on the other hand, is a much all-around defender than Erik Dampier.

going to be a huge battle to get second place. you get to avoid us until the conference finals where we beat anyone in 5.

Last year Dallas was one retarded ass "foul but put your hands up like you didn't want to foul even though everyone knows you're trying to intentionally foul" play by Antoine Wright from being 2-2. After that, who knows how the series goes.
I'd say Dallas in 6 after the trade.

:lol Maybe you should focus on how your team is even going to make the playoffs instead of worrying about the Mavs and Nuggets.

Dallas competed very well with Denver last year when they weren't versatile. They were a Wright fuckup away from really making it a series. Denver isn't getting that luxary of playing a team that isn't versatile anymore. Dallas is much better equipped this season to take down Denver. Hell I like the Mavs chances against the Lakers much more than the imploding thuggets.

Mavs look like a serious threat to LA and Denver now. I just hope Dirk doesn't go all Peyton Manning in the last 3 minutes of an important game when facing the blitz(double team) and ends up throwing the game away, then leave like a sore loser without shaking anyone's hand.

seriously, no Antoine Wright on the court gives Dallas a huge advantage against Denver already. Carmelo and JR got into his head big time.

Mavs > Nuggz right now. Nuggs are still at the top talent wise but too many thugs on the Nuggets.
Too much profesionalism on the Mavs side versus immaturity on the Nuggs.

First, Mavs series last year vs Nuggets was as lopsided as the final tally was, despite the missed call on the foul. The games were competitive in Dallas but the Thuggets completely raped them in Denver.
Saying that, the addition of Marion, Butler, and Haywood now to bang against Dampier makes this pretty equal, if not advantage Mavs. They WILL meet in the 2nd round and I expect a 7 game series.

Well, Denver is already better than the Lakers this season, the question is wether the Mavs caught up to LA with this trade or not. I think Haywood is the biggie here, since he improves the interior defense a lot. But Dampier also needs to stay healthy and be available for the Mavs to have a chance. I think it could be an interesting WC semifinal...

This trade just makes Dallas even more irrelevant than they already were. Josh Howard was not that good to begin with, and these two no-names don't make Dallas any better.

Yea i dont know about the Mavs being one foul away from winning the Denver series last season. Three of the four Denver wins were by double digits, and the one Dallas win was by two points.
Now, it probably goes to 7.

IM going with Denver at the moment only because they have chemistry. Not sure how Butler is going to work out for the Mavs. he could be as bad as J. Howard in that system.
Denver is the only team in the West at the moment that can challenge LA, and they showed them up twice already. But we'll see in the playoffs. Every great player turns into a different beast, and right now LA has two of them and Denver only has All Star caliber players.

Enjoy them while you can before they move to a more deserving place like Little Rock, Arkansas.
