As if the Spurs’ position in the Western Conference standings and general hierarchy of the NBA wasn’t already in jeopardy with their play this season, Mark Cuban and Dan Gilbert are close to putting it on life support.

The Dallas Mavericks on Saturday completed a seven player trade (http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nba/news/story?id=4912262) with the Washington Wizards that appears to upgrade their rotation and fill some of the few holes their roster had.

I don't see the mav trade as a big deal. Been seeing a lot of wizard games and Haywood is way, way overrated. Many times, Oberto looks better out there. Haywood is not much of an upgrade over Dampier.

Butler is great, but dissapears often, which is exactly the same thing Howard did.

I think Dallas will be better from this trade but time will tell. As most on this board were exstatic about the RJ trade only to be totally disappointed that word - chemistry - will have it's say. Butler and Howard seem to be of similar makes and models and their career numbers seem to verify that. Caron does some things better than Josh and vica versa so the stats aren't identical but it does seem that they are pretty much similar players.

I'll be watching Butler and how he works with Kidd. Kidd can only make him a better player but his numbers are based on being the main option and not the 2nd or 3rd one that he will be on the Mavs.

Though Haywood really hasn't wowed me with his career he will be a better upgrade to Gooden and it never hurts to have a 7 footer to replace another 7 footer. I wouldn't have thought twice about this trade if it was a straight up swap of Butler for Howard but Haywood makes it a good deal for the Mavs. Cuban finally fot one right for a change. Good move Mavs.

deshawn stevenson and butler brings some attitude. not much on the clutch, but that's far better than what josh howard brought.

i think that's enough though. haywood is a big upgrade over erica dampier.
