Erick Dampier is out indefinitely after suffering an open dislocation of his right middle finger. Dampier went to an Oklahoma City hospital immediately after the Mavericks' 99-86 loss Tuesday to the Oklahoma City Thunder to have the injury surgically repaired.
Blood gushed out of the finger after the bone ripped through the skin.
"It was frustrating," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said after the new-look Mavs lost. "I'm not going to make excuses about the trade. Right now, I'm just concerned about Damp's situation."

Actually, this is the one thing I wouldn't describe Kobe as.

Wow. I've dislocated my fingers 4 or 5 times playing ball, and I got so I'd just pop it back in myself. But it hurt like hell and the crunching noise is horrific when you pop it back. I also broke my little finger once on a steal and that hurt like hell too, but it was just a small break, only needed a splint for 3 weeks and it healed itself.

I can't imagine dislocating it so bad that the bone comes through the skin. That's insane and obviously would need careful quick surgery. Lots and lots of pain involved, especially once you start doing physical therapy for rehab.

I feel bad for Eric Dampier.
