Per ESPN Insider:

On Salmons: "According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune on Twitter, John Salmons could be on the move very soon: "Bulls management has told Salmons to remain at team hotel as it works to finalize a trade. Won't play vs. Knicks."

The Bulls are trying to move Salmons for expiring contracts in an effort to clear cap to make a run at two free agents agents this summer.

We told you earlier today that there's word Salmons may have been included in the Bulls' offer to Rockets for Tracy McGrady, but the Rockets weren't keen on him. It's also believe the Knicks are the frontrunner still in such a deal, as we noted in that same post.

Beyond that, ESPN's Chad Ford mentioned yesterday the Bucks could be a potential suitor for Salmons."

On McGrady getting traded to the Bulls: "Looks like it's New York or bust for T-Mac.

Adrian Wojnarowksi of Yahoo! Sports tweets: "Bulls have fallen out of consideration for TMac and Houston focus (is) on negotiating draft pick protection to complete NY deal, sources say."

"'I guess Chicago could emerge again,' a source involved in talks told Y! Sports, 'but it doesn't look that way now.'"

Checking in from Madison Square Garden, where Nate Robinson is not in the building (he had flu-like symptoms that sent him to the hospital late Monday) as the Knicks continued their discussions with Boston. As Marc Stein noted an hour ago, John Salmons is not here either, as the Bulls apparently have a deal in place. "There are a lot of things that as an organization we're working on, and John Salmons will not be playing. There's things that I'm not at liberty to say," coach Vinny De Negro said.

The Bulls had been in discussions with the Spurs on a deal that would have sent Salmons to San Antonio for Roger Mason and Matt Bonner, but those talks died.

Chicago has been eager to move Salmons, who has a player option for next season at $5.8 million, for an expiring contract or contracts to clear additional cap space for next summer.

There also was talk at the Garden that the Knicks were discussing a trade with the Bulls that would send Al Harrington to Chicago, with Harrington possibly being re-routed to a third team.

Hinrich's even more injury prone than Bynum and his numbers keep declining. He can't even defend PG's anymore. He only plays great when his contract is on the line, just like Dampier.

And his shooting is in the 30's.

genuinely I think Salmons should be a much better fit for contenders than Caron Butler or Kevin Martin, and it's safe to say Salmons can be acquired for nothing bigger than expiring contracts. While Donnie could have got Salmons, or some other guys alike who are less famous yet more useful than Caron Butler, he chose to dump all his dispensable assets on a LATERAL MOVE.

Salmons is a Kobe Killer. He and Kobe have probably split their head 2 head matchups, or at best Kobe has a slight edge.

If this rumor is true, the Lakers have to seriously think about a Jazz matchup and hope another team takes them out.

Not finalized, but two sources say Bulls and Bucks may be closing in on deal sending Salmons to MKE for Kurt Thomas, Francisco Elson.

TNT's David Aldridge has more on the John Salmons saga. Sources say the Bulls' swingman could be headed to the Bucks in a deal that's close to being completed.
HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS -- A league source tells TNT's David Aldridge that the Chicago Bulls are close to a deal to send swingman John Salmons to the Milwaukee Bucks for forward Kurt Thomas and center Francisco Elson.

The move would bring back two expiring contracts to the Bulls in exchange for Salmons, who has one year (a player option) remaining, at more than $5 million. This would allow the Bulls to pursue a max-level free agent this summer, the team's goal throughout this season.

The Bucks would get a starter in Salmons at small forward for the rest of this season and next, without sacrificing cap room for the summer of 2011, when the Bucks plan to be active in free agency.

Trading Salmons alone also signals Chicago is likely out of the running for Houston's Tracy McGrady, as Salmons was supposed to be part of that deal.

If this deal is true, then that may mean that the Bulls are ready to trade Tyrus Thomas...seeing as the Bulls have Noah, Miller, and now add Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson...

1. The Bulls add 2 more bigs, opening the door for the Spurs to make a serious run at Tyrus Thomas.

2. Salmons stays away from the West.

There are a couple of rumors, when combined give some hope: Spurs looking for a third team with cap space to facilitate a trade + Tyrus Thomas on the way out (strengthened by the Salmons deal) + Grizzlies w/cap space and interested in Mason + Emo Mason.
