How'd you get a copy of it? I was told that the plane didn't touch down in Houston until late tonight, and that copies wouldn't be available until tomorrow AM.

MannyIsGod
08-10-2004, 12:30 AM
Well, my friend has had a burn of it all day, but we just pickd up the collectors edition tonight at EB games, they ahd a crowd there waiting for it.

King Latifah
08-10-2004, 12:33 AM
I reserved a copy of the regular at gamestop for tomorrow p/u. They offered the collectors edition, but I don't really see a need for it. If it's other game samples, like from the early years, it might be fun and nostalgiac, but is there more?

Also, if you turn in a copy of ESPN football (at gamestop, anyway) you get $15 credit towards Madden. Not bad, considering it was $20 to start with.

espn sucks, i don't like it at all. Although the chris berman stuff is cool.

ESPN is pretty immersive in the gameplay. Once you adjust the sliders for your skill level, it presents a challenge I found tough to find in Madden 2004.

Madden is way too easy.

Put ESPN on the highest difficulty level and it's the only football game that is a challenge.

SequSpur

I agree.

Atari Football is much more difficult.

NBA Live is THE SHITTIEST basketball game on the market today.

The gameplay is so unrealistic, it hurts.

TastesLikeChicken
08-10-2004, 01:40 AM
I like Madden, but if you're not playing a human oponent it's far too easy.

I prefer ESPN in football, and it's no contest in basketball, If you want the NBA's version of the and1 mixtape where only dunks and 3's need apply, then NBA Live is for you. I prefer a game like ESPN where Tim Duncan can actually hit an open 5 footer.

I've been a fan of EA since Bulls vs Lakers on the Sega Genisis 13 years ago, but I won't purchase every years game on blind faith and pretend that anything that isn't EA sucks like so many do.

But there is actually a sense of acomplishment in winning in ESPN.

MannyIsGod
08-10-2004, 03:47 AM
Maybe I just suck, but I think Madden at the higher difficulty level's is a challenge. Also, ESPN does not touch the depth of the Madden Franchise Mode.

i got madden last year....i didnt find it as fun as ncaa football.

however its still the best football game on the market.

TastesLikeChicken
08-10-2004, 04:07 AM
To each his own I guess, I usually end up getting both anyway since I have some madden-or-nothing friends. But they are both really good football games that are head and shoulders above everybody else.

But there is actually a sense of acomplishment in winning in ESPN.

Exactly.

I was the Colts last season in Franchise mode in ESPN. The first season, I didn't win a game. The second season I won a couple. Then I went .500. Eventually I finally got to the level that I won the Super Bowl. It was damn fun building up the team and drafting the players I needed to get better.

Kori thought I was crazy at times playing that game.

Hopefully this year's game is just as good. Mine is coming in the mail.

Johnny Blaze 47
08-10-2004, 10:52 AM
I will agree with the above about feeling more entrenched in ESPN's gameplay.

Playing as the Cowboys is tough. My first season of this franchise mode, I barely made the playoffs even though I lost Roy Williams for the whole season early on.

**So glad I had Chad Hutchison as trade bait for a FS**

I haven't played the new Madden, but what's so great about Madden's franchise mode, Manny?

You can only change the price of popcorn so many times.

Joe Chalupa

I must not play Madden enough.

I can't even win in rookie mode.

My first season of this franchise mode, I barely made the playoffs even though I lost Roy Williams for the whole season early on.

You must not have put it on the hardest difficulty. That game is damn hard at that setting ... no way you make the playoffs your first year.

I have a policy that when I open the game, I start my season right away. The only warmups I get are the scheduled preseason games.

By the time I finished with 2K4, I was pretty much unbeatable vs human comp.

:)

Johnny Blaze 47
08-11-2004, 04:06 AM
Actually, these are the sliders I used to start my franchise.

DL's Sliders version 1.0

All-Pro Difficulty- 8 mins quarters
HUMAN- From Default
Blocking: +5
Passing: -5
Catching: -5
Pursuit: -10
Tackling +2
Fatigue: +5

CPU
Blocking: +15 (might go to max...)
Passing: -5
Running: +5
Catching: -5
Tackling: +5
Fatigue: +5
Interception: -5

Everything else default for now.

***

I'm just that damn good, LJ.

Using default rosters, Julius Jones rushed for about 1,100 yards. Keyshawn and Terry Glenn each had about 5-600 yards recieving.

The FS I traded Hutchinson for (along with a 2nd round pick) was Zack Bronson. Worked out pretty well. I ended up losing in the second round of the playoffs when I lost Quincy and Julius Jones to injuries.

that sucks.

When I read they were putting that angle on franchise mode, I thought it would add some reality.

Kind of like on NBA LIVE, when the color guy ogles over Tony Parker with the same description of the kind of player he is for the 50th time.

Im geeked for Madden, I think Im gonna be able to spare a few minutes and bust out for it tommarow.

PS

End of October is my vote for the Video game GTG.

All video game commentators get old after the first couple times you play. I just turn off the volume and play music.

On 2K4, I put it on All-Pro and put the sliders to be all the way against me. It was damn hard but eventually I could win.

MannyIsGod
08-11-2004, 04:36 AM
well, the madden commentary is already old because it's the same as last years.

al michaels still says 'and he goes to the sidelines for a blow' and that line always still cracks us up.

Yes. He also came home with a new video card and more memory. I remember the first Doom which came out about 10 years or so ago. How far graphics have come.

My first football game was on of those hand held ones that had the blips on the screen from the early '80s. They are selling them at Target now. Anyway, I kicked ass at that game once I figured out how to beat it.
