Spurs were playing possum to attempt to get a good deal by trade deadline.

It didn't work and now the Spurs are going to wreak havoc on the whole of the NBA. Book it baby!

I think the Spurs have outsmarted themselves by being cute for so long, and a return to basic basketball is unlikely. That said, hope springs eternal, and I'll be listening.

Meh...I'm done being sad, disappointed, angry, whatever. I'm just gonna watch the games. If we win, good. If we lose, whatever. It's rebuilding time and I refuse to get emotionally involved in what has now become the 2010's version of the early 90's Celtics.

This lineup is a little better, but I'd have Hill start for Bogans. If you want Ginobili to come off the bench at guard that's fine, but not Ginobili and Hill, pick your poison.

Tony Parker
George Hill
Richard Jefferson
Antonio McDyess
Tim Duncan

That lineup would be better.

Deja vu with Duncan. He's laboring to score, just like around this time last year. Parker is ailing and the team doesn't have another player capable of consistently scoring 20, so what we're seeing now is a mediocre offense in addition to the perpetually mediocre defense; not a good combination.

I'm just following this game from Yahoo GameChannel, but I like Pop's rotations so far.

-The starting 5 is still weird, but when Bogans got 2 early fouls, he went to Jefferson at the 10:10 mark in the 2nd quarter.

-Then Parker was out for a bit with Hill running the point, and McDyess was the first big off the bench.

-Eventually this led to the ever-called-for lineup of Parker/Ginobili/Jefferson/Duncan/McDyess.

-Now, with about 1:30 left in the first quarter, Blair is the second big off the bench and is paired with McDyess.

if there's like a 2-3 second difference in the shot and game clock, IMO you should just shoot a long (screened) 3 at the buzzer, so there's no chance they run it down the court and get a cheap bucket.

Man, I really hope this lineup continues to work well (as ugly as it's sounded, Spurs are up 7 at the half). On paper, this is pretty much my ideal distribution of minutes and roles.

If you double the Spurs minutes in the first half, you get:

Parker: 34 mpg
Hill: 26 mpg

Manu: 35 mpg (maybe a little high)
Jefferson: 30 mpg
Mason: 14 mpg
Bogans: 4 mpg

Duncan: 35 mpg (again, maybe a tad high, at least for now)
McDyess: 30 mpg
Blair: 19 mpg
Bonner: 11 mpg

And best of all, ZERO small ball!!

I still don't agree with Bogans and Bonner to start. Both times so far, we've come out pathetically and given up a 8-10 point lead to start the game. Once the subs come in, the game shifts. There's gotta be something to do about that.

I think Pop simply doesn't know how to manage all the players we have.
Look at Bogans and Bonner as starters and they got 1min30 and 5 min.(wich is a good thing then why do you start them ?)
Tired Parker minutes over Hill 14 minutes who looked good

But Hairston and Mahinmi in place of Bogans and Bonner would be perfect.

I agree, but if you give me the choice between a crappy starting lineup and that rotation, or a more solid starting lineup and small ball, I take the first one. I know we shouldn't have to make that choice, but so far those are the two major Pop rotations we've seen recently.

That would be a bold move now, at this stage in the game. 30 games into the season I might try that, but not with 30 games left.

I can't argue with that. I'm about ready to rip my eyes out when Pop goes small these days.

Still, we can't be spotting leads to every team we play. This team has a terrible habit of trying to play out of a hole, and that's not going to help things at all. Personally, I'd rather see Mason take Bogan's spot in the rotation, but there's obviously a reason why I've got my job and Pop's got his.

For better or worse, Pop almost always starts the 2nd half with his starters. Seems kind of odd, since you've had half a game to evaluate the flow, but I guess he feels it makes a fresh restart for the half.
