OK.... So I have been sitting on this for about a year....

Its a genuine ammo box from the military, no idea how old it is and I have been thinking about how to convert it into a computer box.

*EDIT* Resized the images, the origionals where just too damned huge. :lol

as far as the actual computer components, my funds are limited to about $3000. I want this to be a show box for a game like Call of Duty or something like that.

I dont want to mess up any of the origional print on the box and I have been unable to find the top cover for it (it may be somewhere in the house).

Opinions and idea's welcome.

i've seen this before, dvd ammo box with a collection of WW2 dvd's, and a PC computer case too

um, you are going to have to be very careful with heat issues, because that box will heat up real fast. make at least 3 perforated hole areas. 1 for the power supply and the others for two separate cooling fans.

then i would add a sliding track like in a cabinet. so you can easily slide the motherboard in and out to upgrade/whatever with minimal hassle. add a simple stopgap locking mechanism to the sliding track so it won't move on its own.

should be a cool box.

don't clean the outside though, leave it how it is

Cool, that would look pretty sweet when its finished.

Seems like a non-starter to me without the top.

If you use something like a closed loop liquid cooling device for the CPU like the corsair h50, you would minimize the need for holes being drilled into the chases, and you do need the top for effect.

As far as the top. I have it laying around somewhere...

I was thinking of fabricating my own top though. Use shell casings sodered onto a steel plate, make it look like Ammo is stacked up.

As far as cooling concerns... I have a pretty good idea on the layout of case fans and CPU cooling.

I love the ammo casings idea. Where would you put the drives? USB mounts?

It's 2010 man, you go Bluetooth and huge hard drives.

You'll have to have a few outs on the back, but not a lot.

Bluetooth? I suppose you plan on putting WiFi in there too... The problem here is that you are building a case out of thick metal... You won't get much (if any) range out of your transmitters... Your box will act as a huge Faraday cage, unless you find a way to disguise your antennas within the ammo casings...

i suggest you either pull out the frame/plate structure of ur old box and place it inside that new box so you dont have drill holes to place ur motherboard on....
