Are you guys seeing what Detroit has on the floor? There is a time and a place to complain about small ball.

So is your opinion that if they are playing small ball we have to do it too?

Sadly most NBA teams don't have that idea when we play small ball

I know small ball is a recurring negative theme for Spur fans, but for this particular game, with the lineups we use, it's not all that big of a deal. We go with 3 guards all the time. Wallace and Maxiell are both like 6'7". Villanueva is a perimeter scorer. Jonas is a rook and not much of a threat. Small ball against us shouldn't be a big deal.

Bob Lanier
02-21-2010, 07:09 PM
I mean, as we all know, Tim Duncan is NOT a center, so HE couldn't have been the one slotted in.

Maybe Bogans is the Spurs' center?

What's happened to Duncan? I'm not talking about age/injury related. He's got 6-7 Maxiell on him and instead of getting deep post position and punishing him, he's shooting one handed fallaway's from about 12 feet? He should feel disrespected that the Pistons are putting Maxiell on him, but instead it's like he's powerless to it. His scoring and efficiency are slipping by the game. Forget prime, he's a shell of his former self from earlier this season.

Once again, this retard coach get's results playing big, so he goes back to playing small and voila, the team is instantly struggling. Blair and McDyess are two of the six-seven best players on the team. Particularly with Parker out, you can't have unproductive players like Bogans and even Mason playing significant minutes.

P>S, how have you guys liked having Ben Gordon this year?

He was great in early on. Scoring 20pts at will. But that was also with Rip out due to injury. And then he missed a bunch games aswell. He's struggled too damn much lately learning how to be effective without having the ball in his hands all that often. The jury is still out. I think he'll be a good fir for us once we get rid of Rip, and give him a bigger more defined role.

TBH, I think Duncan is hurting his game a lot more than his possible injuries/fatigue are..his rebounding and defense is the same as earlier in the season..

He just seems to have lost his confidence for some reason..his shot selection has been HORRIBLE in these last few games..he's not looking to attack at all, instead settling for tough jump shots over inferior defenders..

yes rip takes away too many touches form ben not to mention hes only been getting like 20 minutes a game lately

Rip's honestly taking too many touches from everyone. Stuckey, Bynum, Gordon, Jonas all have far less impact with Rip hoarding such a scoring load, thus decreasing the level of variety in our offense. Rip is great at what he does. I'm not knocking him .... too much. But it doesn't open things up for us. It's the same screens and curls we've seen for years. It's effective still so I guess you have to keep going to it, but as a fan, I've seen it enough to last a lifetime.

I agree. It's self inflicted, a lot of it. Everybody is so quick to point to age with this team, but a lot of their troubles they're bringing on themselves. Duncan has the best footwork and most advanced post game in the league, yet when is the last time you see him dig deep into his repertoire? He needs to at least do a spin move on the baseline and finish before the defender can react; something.

I credit Pop for one thing; holding Duncan to 14:47 in the 1st half. Because this is likely to be a back and forth, down to the wire game, he can now play him around 19-20 in the 2nd half, if need be (2 days rest are up coming) and still hold him to 34-35 for the game. That's what he should be doing in most 1st halves, when the game isn't slipping away at least.

Pistons < Spurs
02-21-2010, 07:21 PM

I like the fact that Bonner and Finley have logged 0 minutes...

It's an improvement.

Not a bad 8-man rotation we've used today (would be 9 with Parker), just don't care for the unconventional starting lineup... It's not just the fact of being "small", it's that it's not meshing well... One of McDyess or Blair needs to starts, and with the way Manu has played this calendar year (not just stats, he plays with intensity) I'd say we should be starting him right now.

Jefferson, can't he just fluke out one of these games and play well? Honestly, even Udoka looked decent offensively once in a blue moon. We're not even seeing those once in a blue moon games out of Jefferson anymore.

The shot blocking is non-existent. This team is lucky to get 1 or 2 a game right now.

Pop needs to play strictly a 3 big rotation in this half. Even if the Pistons go small with Prince at the four. It's time the Spurs start dictating the terms of the game, particularly against inferior competition. They want to play Jerebko or Prince at four, then pound them down low and on the boards.

tp2021

Start Blair next to Tim. Let them attack Blair 1-on-1, where they will be surprised at how well he holds his ground, and which also allows Timmy to be the weakside help defender/shotblocker; it saves his body and puts the position that requires a great level of BBIQ (help defense) in the hands of Tim.

Collapse time. Whether small ball or not the Spurs simply are not big enough when Tim is not on the floor. Ian should get some burn just out of necessity. Otherwise, we are just conceding.

Spurs just don't seem to have the fire power to make large runs. The only times they do are when they are already in a hole early. If the game is close late and the other team lands a big punch, Spurs usually cannot recover.
