Because of Parker’s injury, the team will start a small lineup of George Hill, Roger Mason, Keith Bogans, Richard Jefferson and Tim Duncan.

My god, Popvich fucking sucks. I'm not going to bother watching this one. I have better things to do with my time than to see the Spurs get crushed using bullshit smallball.

Parker will sit, have MRI

Tony Parker will miss today's game at Detroit, coach Gregg Popovich said. Parker, who is battling a strained left hip flexor, will have an MRI on Monday in San Antonio to determine the extent of the injury.

Parker originally suffered his latest injury Feb. 8 against the Lakers, and it has not responded well to treatment. A firmer timetable for Parker's return will be determined after the MRI.

"I thought he was going to be OK after the Indiana game," Popovich said, referring to Wednesday's victory over the Pacers in which Parker had 28 points. "He scored a thousand points that game. Then he came up in the Philly game, he was hurting. So I told him, 'We're going to sit you.' "

In Parker's absence, George Hill will slide to point guard, creating a domino effect in the starting lineup. The Spurs will open small, starting Roger Mason at shooting guard, Keith Bogans at small forward and Richard Jefferson at power forward.

It will be Popovich's 18th unique starting lineup this season.

"Because I'm tricky and smart," Popovich said with a laugh. "This will certainly work, I'm sure."

In related news, the Spurs have recalled Malik Hairston from Austin to replace Parker on the active roster.

Has Malik been called up (it'd be nice to see him play back home)?

Even I didn't think he was that crazy. I'm half expecting him to come out on the court with his shirt on inside-out.

If Parker's not hurt
Parker
Hill
Bogans
Duncan
Bonner

Pop's nothing if not stubborn and predictable.

If Parker's injured, expect him to mix it up a bit:

Hill
Bogans
Finley
Duncan
Bonner

Thanks, that's what I figured.

Hill had his homecoming and now it's Malik's turn -- hopefully it proves to be more than that and part of the internal tweaks Tim alluded to after the trade deadline.

RJ at PF . . . I haven't seen the Pistons too much this year, but RJ should be able to handle Jerebko, right?

It's like we're tanking, except in the upside down world of the Spurs right now, Pop seems to think this lineup is our best chance to win. I'm curious about these tweaks and new playcalling...sounds like corporate speak to assuage Holt.

I don't think we could play worse now. And if Pop really wanted to tank, he'd play the young guys and we'd probably do better. Upside down.

It's funny, Pop only looks at size as a positive if it favors smallball.

Hey, they're playing someone about the same size as RJ at the 4 ... this could work!

Hilarious.

The starting lineup may have been small, but the finishing lineup was more conventional. The problem: with a conventional lineup the Spurs STILL got outrebounded!

Am I crazy to think that Bonner actually could have helped today?

I can't be called a Bonner supporter by any means, but when the match-ups are Jerebko and Villanueva . . . I don't know. For what feels like the first time ever under his current contract I felt like Bonner should have received minutes.

I think I've lost my mind.

Obstructed_View

You aren't crazy to think that the Spurs could have benefitted from any size whatsoever on their front line, but giving Blair so few minutes in a game where you're badly outrebounded is kind of...well, par for the course.

This is getting downright comical.

I think Pop's head hurts because he couldn't get Augustine out of Charlotte. If he could have, he could have started Parker, Hill, and DJ :lol

There's only two options right now:

1. Pop has gone senile, basically following in the footsteps of Nellie.

2. We're seeing the greatest tank job in NBA history, because no one can see it.

He'll probably declare after tomorrow's MRI on TP that the season is over and that's the reason we couldn't compete. I expect a McDonald article following up shortly thereafter trying to rationalize it.

It's starting to look like something like that might happen..they wouldn't call up Hairston if Parker wasn't expected to be out for a long time..so I'm expecting TP to be out for a long time, followed up by Timmy..

Robinson..Duncan...3rd time??..

Pop's gone absolutely fucking batshit insane.

It isn't so much that the starting lineup sucked, it was staying with Mason and Bogans and Jefferson too for so many minutes apiece when it wasn't working.

Isn't one definition of insanity continuing to do something that didn't work with the expectation that a different result will occur?

Spurs' Parker scheduled for MRI (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/Spurs_Parker_scheduled_for_MRI.html)
Jeff McDonald

Parker is officially listed as day-to-day, but Popovich said the team has not ruled out sidelining the point guard for a longer period, if it will help him heal.
