Drug tests?! really? Is this something common in the states?

I only had to do them to work for the City of San Antonio and AmeriCorps. I did an internship with a federal agency this summer and didn't have to take one (although I did have to submit fingerprints). It just depends on organizational policy.

so you were actively seeking new employment, rather than spending time starting threads about it on an internet message board?

Do most people in the US only get a couple of weeks vacation a year?

In Australia, you get 4 weeks, or 6 weeks in the health industry if you do a certain number of night shifts.

A lot of companies are also starting to introduce an option of buying extra leave as well.

Damn, now I have second thoughts; maybe the company doesn't exist; maybe when I get there on my 1st day, I will only find empty facilities :(

Cool! Congrats and enjoy your time off! :toast

I live in Canada, but it depends on the industry; for exampe, pharmaceutical companies require it

We have a much better suite of minimum conditions than workers in the US, especially since Work Choices was repealed:

http://www.fairwork.gov.au/Pay-leave-and-conditions/Conditions-of-employment/Pages/National-Employment-Standards.aspx#role

Most Americans would be happy to have our minimum conditions. Ironically, a significant proportion of Americans would also label us Communists for having them. :rolleyes :lol

Aha, I see. Did not know that. with some companies I can understand it why.

Congrats on the new gig. I started working Monday for Advanced Applied Construction Services. We go to homes and businesses and look for ways they are wasting energy.

We take pictures and have fancy ghost busters type gadgets to check for carbon monoxide and gas leaks.

I do all the paper work and download the pictures to the files.we have to use a real old program its what the government uses in fact we need to use a 16bit processor the software wont work properly on any pc that is after 1998, I find that hard to believe but that's what they told me so I don't complain. I showed them a fast way to put the pictures in the files without having to copy and paste each photo. I got them to use GPS and turned them on to map quest. Since I live at the office I am never late for work and the employees have hot coffee when they get here.

As soon as my background check and security clearance is complete I hope to work with the NSA in the data recovery department. I still do laptops and teach basic photo shop to stay busy. I may get back into doing stand up, looks like Kim leaving me was the best thing that could have happened.

Congrats again on your new job and allowing me to use this topic to toot my horn.

Wow thats great!

I'll be graduating this May, and my boss said she would like to hire me on full time at her company as her accountant! I'm so excited.

I've been working there since Nov 08 doing AP and payroll and stuff, so I know I'll be doing way more than just that.

Congraulations on your new job; I hope you'll move to the NSA soon

Security clearance shou;dn't be an issue, as long as they don't track your posts on ST.

Funny you say that because USAA tried to sue Kori and LJ because I had a screen name (USAA Employee) they felt I had no right to use that name. In fact I spoke with a detective when I took my A+ certification test he said ST has at least 5 posters who are SAPD or work for the sheriffs department.

I can't let that change the way I post. In fact I told LJ and Kori to let USAA take them to court I don't like large corporations intimidating the little people.

You don't see Steve Perry,Al Sharpton, and Al Gore coming after me because I have a screen name that mimic's them.

Today I thought I was going to get fired. One of the bosses wanted to watch Undercover Boss he missed and I told him i can find it on a torrent site and after i downloaded the show his PC was acting strange he felt I downloaded a Trojan. he told me if i have any appointments at the VA to go ahead and take tomorrow off. I think the guy is threaten by me because I know so much about the business and I work fast. Why else does he want me to take the day off? The other boss Joe Lopez is the one who hired me but he is very timid and he lets others push him around.

The funny thing is if i take the day off I am still in the same building its where I live. :lmao

Wow Mouse. You acheived a lot in a few weeks.

I was already doing sub contract work for them, also mr notebook and computech. most of the Hard Drives get shipped to Austin, now that I am all alone I have the time and space to do more work. The stand up was always a hobby, I just never applied myself since I was at home doing dishes, laundry, cleaning house, cooking dinner, etc...Now I just put two pop tarts in the toaster make a strong cup of coffee and I am ready to work.

The only problem is thinking about Sophie all alone at the pound. :depressed
