Haywood really giving Dallas a physical inside identity. He may be the steal of the last minute deals.

LOL @ kobe dribbling the ball for 20 fucking seconds....

Phil put Ron on Kidd in case they run the PnR. Artest is much better suited to guard Dirk than Kobe.

Haywood looks great.

Physical identity by getting away with fouls. He's had several over the back fouls and push offs for the rebound, still though, Lakers doing a poor job on the glass.

Wow LO coming up clutch here. 2 HUGE plays. Surprise Kobe gave it up to him in the corner.

Down 3 50 seconds left. They are going to go to Dirk. Just need to play him straight up and keep him 15 ft + out. DO NOT SWITCH. Make sure LO is on him.

Problem with Fisher is who do you sit him for? Farmar REFUSES to play any defense and Shannon is not adept or knows how to fight through screens at this point. Look at him vs. Ray Allen.

Good game tho.

Haywood really impressed me in this game his one on one defense against Bynum and Gasol was amazing. He can guard either of their bigs but espescially Gasol it was funny to watch Gasol's post up game negated by Haywood's strength. Gasol was literally forced to be a jumpshooter out there against Haywood which will always be the case in this matchup. Haywood's rebounding was also fantastic out there he prevented the Lakers from getting a lot of second chance points they normally would get off of offensive rebounds. The mavs with Haywood officially become a matchup problem for the Lakers because the Lakers size advantage isn't a problem against them unlike other teams and factor in them having Dampier which means they will never have to go small against the Lakers.

Derek Fisher attempted more shots than:

Pau Gasol

and for good measure

Adam Morrison (who should be getting equal shots with Fisher IMO.....0)

Kidd will guard Artest and Artest has not been able to exploit it from what I saw. Butler or Marion will start out on Artest. If the offense is being run by Artest, bad things usually happen for the lakers. Artest gets too close to the basket, Haywood will be there and he is good at avoiding fouls. The post is a hard place to play with a shotblocker out there.

Your team has been far more vulnerable than they were at any point last season, and I think Artest has everything to do with that.

Have you cared to look at any other factors?

Namely...we are defending champs. A let-down was inevitable. Needs time to gel and figure out the offense...even though we barely run the damn tri anymore.

Artest has NOT been the problem for the Lakers this year.

That has been the backcourt...namely Fisher.

The problem for the Mavs and any team v the Lakers over a 7 game series is the points in paint battle. Lakers generate more interior baskets than any team in the league.

Mavs were +9 from the arc, +8 in fast break points.

Still, FUCKING PROUD :) at the grit... I had that nervous feeling throughout the 4th quarter that the Mavs would yet again fold to the Lakers under pressure... but our boys... our beautiful boys showed some grit and wherewithal... this team is very different MENTALLY than previous editions... whether its enough come playoffs probably not but alas...

Your team has been far more vulnerable than they were at any point last season, and I think Artest has everything to do with that.

And I do wish you were coach of the Mavs or any of the contenders lol so you would then try to isolate Artest and attack his weaknesses as opposed to Fisher since Artest has made us "vulnerable" :lol

Mavs were agressive and played without fear. I'm pleasantly surprised they won with Dampier and Butler out. We got away with Najera guarding Gasol and Kidd guarding Artest for long stretches. When Damp comes back, we'll be able to field a center for 48 minutes instead of just 30. Haywood is a smart player, he's not aggressive as he could be bc he has to stay out of foul trouble.

Exactly with Dampier comming back you have two legit interior 7 foot defender in which Gasol can not post up and is forced to be a jump shooter which is huge. Gasol,Odom both are great at abusing undersized players but the Mavs now have the luxury of not having to worry about having those type of mismatches.

Mavericks had the perfect gameplan for Kobe.

Let him shoot jumpers, dont let him drive. If he gets picks, double team him and force the ball out of his hands. But whatever you do, don't let him drive. Force him to have to get 30-40 points on jumpshots and fadeaways (lower percentage shots).

Haywood was playing soft early to stay out of foul trouble, but in the second half, he pretty much shut Bynum down. When Damp gets back, things will change a LOT.

Mavericks can most definitely compete with the Lakers.

Mav's played great. But saying they kept Kobe from driving is a stretch. You are not going to see Kobe drive a lot into traffic anytime soon nursing the ankle and finger. I think you will see him turn it up a huge notch down the stretch.

Of course. They gave the Mavs too many second chance points and they were killing us from 3 (mainly Terry). There was a play where Lakers gave up like 3-4 second chances on one play and Terry ended up drilling an open 3. And there's also the one at the end of the 3rd when Kobe was out of bounds. He gave up on the play after Edwardo missed the layup and wasn't in position to receive the pass from Pau after the rebound. That resulted in another 3.

Mavs before the trade were surely a tier level below against the Lakers.

The disappearance of Josh Dumbass Smith and the addition of Caron Butler and especially Brendan haywood has changed the Mavs profile. I think right now the Lakers have TWO legitimate challengers in the West. Denver and Dallas.

Oh I never said the Mavs were on the Lakers level before the trade. I just said it would be a competitive 5 MAYBE 6 game series. I am basing it off the games they have played over the last 3 years. Lakers did win a majority of them but the Mavs kept the games competitive.

^ A Spurs/Mavs matchup would be fun to watch..I dont think any Spurfan would wanna come back to this forum if they lost to Dallas again hahaa

Josh Smith on the Mavs probably wouldn't have elicited a trade...just saying.

It was a great win by the Mavs and you have to give them their due. Let's move on to the next match-up which is against the 76ers and then the all important game against the Nuggets.
See, thats my problem with Josh Howard. He's so irrelevant, I dont even know his name lol.

Come on get real…Does anyone here really believe that Dallas could be the Lakers on an even playing field? :lol

lol you mean kome getting 15 fts?

for laker fan its either an even playing field(lakeshow getting every call, any call) or shitty refs(even to both teams)

If the Mavs and Spurs meet in the playoffs, it may be a sweep.

Before "Gasoft" the Lakers were getting beaten by the Suns. And the European soft label is getting old. People always call Dirk soft as well. I dislike most of the Laker players but Gasol I'm cool with.
