So, who are the players you were sure were garbage last season but have turned out to have a significant game.

I'll start - Robin Lopez. He looked totally out of his depth last year, but now he appears to be a rotation player, and maybe even a bit better than that.

Wesley Matthews Jr.

DeJuan Blair. I'm sure we had decent expectations for him, but he's outlived them for sure. Then again, George Hill's right up there too. It's a shame those are the only two players on the Spurs I can say that about.

I'll go with Jefferson. He was supposed to help SA contend.

This has Zach Randolph written all over it.

Both R.Lopez and Dragic have made quite a leap. Those two IMO are the reason why the Suns are back in contention.

Edit: Yes, Randolph too. In many ways he is quite surprising as the other two are second year players and expected to improve.

Most people who have seen him say Ben Wallace surprised them. Jerebko came outta nowhere too...

Blatche anyone?

Definitely Collison and Thornton. Loser prick Byron Scott didn't even play these guys in the first ten games before his ugly ass got fired.

Definitely Robin. I feel like the Suns took my idea of pulling off a parent trap switch with New Jersey.

Still. He's out there still playing like an elite PG and just got done dropping a line that hasn't been dropped in 20 years (other than himself doing it earlier in his career.)

Zach Randolph - went from a joke to an nba all-star.

Steve Nash and Jason Kidd - i thought they were done but they look good this year.

Robin Lopez - was a hated player by Suns fans. Now he's the starting center.

Darren Collison/Marcus Thornton - these guys know how to step up when their best player is out.

sons speaking for the Hornets, obviously its Thornton and Collison. especially Thornton as he was only a mid 2nd round pick who no one expected to play the way he has been. as a starter he is averaging over 20 a game.

I'll add Andrew Bogut to the list. Up until last year he looked like an average centre, he's now knocking on the door of elite company, especially on D. if you haven't taken a look at the Bucks, give it a go and watch him closely. Man has become an ol'-skool BEAST.

I read that as Andrew Bynum at first, and got very confused by the end of your post. :lol

Yeah, Bogut is one of the most pleasant surprises of the season. I remember when people thought he was kind of a bust, and now he's dominating like crazy. He's only 25, so he's only getting better from here on out.

Goran Dragic

dragic

I'm not a surprise, just dominating the way I'm supposed to dominate. The real surprise was that I didn't play well last year and run away with ROY.

:lol Bynum, not so much.

I love Bogut. He's a classical centre, and he loves the game. I'm surprised that other players haven't followed his lead with Squad 6, especially in small markets. I hope he's an All-Star next year, and I hope the Bucks can pair him and Jennings with another star talent so they can be the next Hawks.

Yeah, your rebounding has been pretty surprising, but you were already a player of note.

J Kidd being that he's like 67 years old.

Tyrek Evans.

Joakim Noah, who ever thought he'd be leading the league in the rebounding prior to his injury.

George Hill. Dejuan Blair.

Bogut was already this good last season and even in the 2nd half of the previous one. People just didn't care. They are now paying attention simply because he's scoring a little more.

Noah is a great player but hardly a surprise.

Rookies shouldn't count. Wes Mathews, Jerebko and Thornton are the most surprising to me.

Robin Lopez is starting to show signs of a quality role-player, but that was to be expected in his 2nd season. He'll probably be a full-time quality role-player in his 4th season.

Ben Wallace didn't surprise me, I knew he still had basketball left in him. He played great for Cleveland pre-injury and his injury may have costed them the title, I was puzzled that teams weren't trying to sign him.

Zach Randolph? Why? What is Zach Randolph doing that different? His team is winning and the perceptions are changing but he's basically the same player playing the same way.

Kidd is having a good year, even better than the last one, but this one is not good enough and the last one wasn't bad enough (or bad at all) to call him a surprise.

Felton and Landry are guys having great seasons but I was high on them before the start of the season.

Dragic yeah, he's surprising me. Josh Smith and Marc Gasol surprised me as well. Corey Maggette. My top 5 would be, in no particular order:

M. Gasol
J. Smith
Maggette
Dragic
Dalembert

I'd say posters saying Durant > Kobe is surprising, but it's not.

I'd say in no particular order : Blatche / S. Curry / T. Evans / D. Collinson / Maggette / Noah

Luke Walton. Fucker never gets tired of getting his nerves pinched by Dick Jefferson

Young Guns:

Curry/Evans/Blair. I thought Evans would be good, but not this good. Curry I thought was going to be a very average player, like a rich man's Eddy House, but he is far beyond that so far. Blair I knew was going to be a rebounding beast, but he has a lot of other tools.

Current Players:

Maggette/Bargnani/Bogut/Westbrook. Maggette has really had his best year ever. He has been a flat out stud. Bargnani has put together a nice year and has even picked up his defense some. He still needs work, but not close to a bust. Same with Bogut. He was kind of considered a bust, but the guy is flat out playing right now. Turning into a fantastic player. Westbrook has gotten stronger and stronger as the year has progressed. Going to be a good one if he keeps fine tuning his game.

Superstars:

Lebron/Durant. Lebron just keeps getting better and that is scary. He is playing at a disgustingly high level. Durant has had an amazing year and his game is rounding out.
