He played together with Green in Union Olimpija. This season he played for Alba Berlin and averaged 13,4 points and 5,7 boards in German league and 12 points and 5,4 boards in 23 Euroleague games.

EDIT: damn, didn't know this topic was in Spurs section... Should probably be moved to Think Tank?

Guess they're looking for a small forward to play 12mpg behind Kawhi next season.[

Im getting tired of these tiny non athletic offensively underwhelming power forwards. I want Thomas Robinson.

As in you hated him because he killed your favorite team or you hated him because he sucked?

I'm an NC State fan and had to play against both. He was alright in college... Keep Blair tbh

because he sucked.

Well that's an argument, huh? He was the best player on that team. Period.

Welp, I'm leaving the discussion if you don't have any supportive arguments.

What stood out? Was he a good rebounder? I feel that's something the spurs lack at the 4/5 outside of TD.

The Carolina pipeline at work. I hope Deon is better now than he was at Chapel Hill.

Sounds like Popovich just wants to keep giving shots to the less heralded members of the 2009 UNC championship team.

He's been in Chapel Hill working out with a lot of the other UNC pros for the last couple weeks. His best asset is probably his low post game and his soft touch on his turnaround jumper. He has very good footwork around the basket. He is a solid rebounder, not a particularly elite one. He averaged around 6 boards per game as a upperclassmen, but there was always a player or two on the team who took boards away from him due to their hustle (Hansbrough) or their length (Ed Davis, John Henson.) He could play both PF and C in college, but I would see him as purely a PF in the NBA.

Honestly though, Pops can work magic with his system. If there is anyone who could make Deon Thompson into a legit NBA contributor it would be Pop.

He was fine in Chapel Hill. He was a double digit scorer and the starting PF on a national championship team. He played his role well. He was just surrounded by a lot of talent in college. If I remember correctly Deon started the national championship game off by scoring 8 of the first 12 points for the Tar Heels, giving us a lead we would never relinquish.

From what I have followed, he appears to have played well overseas. But the NBA is obviously a different animal.

Danny Green wasn't much in Cleveland.

Put Thompson in the pipeline.

OTOH, Pop may just be doing RW a solid for one of his former players. It IS just a minimcamp invite.

Wouldn't surprise me. Pop is one of very few outsiders who got invited to Dean Smith's coaching retreats. He and Roy have been close for a long time.

Well he was a good rebounder but you should note that he mostly played a center and was often the biggest man on the court for Olimpija. He was team's leading scorer and rebounder in Adriatic league (if you count out Danny who only played 9 games there). For more stats you can check here: http://basketball.eurobasket.com/team/Union_Olimpija_Ljubljana/628?Page=3&Stats=2012

What might be worth noting is that he is a pretty good jump shooter - iirc he often shot from the mid-range, maybe even more often than right under the rim.

I'm not sure how he would look like in NBA, since he is pretty short for a 4/5...

basically he was statpadding too much and not giving consistent effort on defense, i know this is not much of an argument it's just how i felt about him. I'm not trying to say what he is or isn't i may as well be wrong..

Well I didn't have that feeling, especially not for stat-padding. And he was the best player of that team, I can't find any alternative.

Btw, you're from Slo., aren't you? :lol

I said they should not have given him that contract...which is right. They should have kept Harden instead. Anyway, it's not like I compared some monkeyballing Steve Francis clone to an NBA legend in his prime.

it's still a stupid statement, westchimp is more important for the meths than harden was for quite a few reasons. also they should have kept all four of them anyway.

Not nearly as stupid as comparing mid tier players to NBA legends.

And you don't win a championship locking up three wing players on max deals. Name a team in the modern era(1990 to now) that has done it. I'll wait.

we're very off topic, but ibaka will earn 12 starting next year, westchimp 14 next year, durant 18 and harden 13 from next year, that added with the fact they had so many high draft picks and the fact they still have one this year and the fact they drafted 4 great players in such a small timespan makes your point really silly.

No it doesn't. Answer the question or go back to making beds and folding clothes.

And why cite that high pick from this year? If they hadn't traded Harden they wouldn't have that pick, genius.
