I will see it. But so far, it looks like I won't like it.
Positives thus far is that it looks like the trailer does not give much away as the typical trailer does.
Also....seems like we're entering an era where every movie with special effects is going to be 3D....

Yet more proof that Hollywood ran out of ideas 20 years ago.
But I will probably see it, and be disappointed that today's movie execs consider CGI to be more important than scripting or storyline.

I don't see it that way. Tron was a movie that was state of the art for the time. The story line was a bit weak, but there are those of who who really want to see how modern CGI makes it. The name alone brings in people.

Yeah the movie graphically was waaaaay before it's time...so some stuff that they tried to do didn't come out so great...you could tell the ideas were there..just not the technology...so I'm excited to see how it should have looked...

Agreed. I'm not expecting Legacy to be anything great, but I'd still like to see it.

I saw Alice with my family Saturday night. I enjoyed it. I don't think Jack Sparow playing The Mad Hatter was a good call on Johnny Depp's part, but overall, it was a pretty nice film...
Any TRON thread should, by default, go into the geek zone... I love turning off my brain and watching TRON. Still 3rd best CGI film out there after Jurassic Park and Transformers. Just wish Jeff Bridges had a bit more heart in the film, and Bruce Boxliner hadn't been cast, because he sucks, but yeah, I am excited. I can't wait!

I don't mean to pick on you, Ruff, because you're not the only person to say this, but Hollywood has been doing remakes and sequels since the invention of film.
Hollywood is also making more movies today than it has ever made, so there are far more options for movie lovers who don't want to see the mainstream crap.
Thing is, that's what most people go to see. So it's not that Hollywood is out of ideas, it's that the public does not want new ideas unless it comes with $200MM of marketing.

of all the sequels that could be made from 20 year old movies, I think this one is one of the more promising. It was a story that embraced the future then, so in a way it makes sense to find out what happend next.
It saddens me to think that I saw the original at the old Fox Twin over behind what was then Central Park Mall and that most of you on this board today were not even a fleeting thought in your yet to meet mother and fathers brains.
Plus, I got to walk over to Swenson's for ice cream before my mom picked me up.

Fair points. But I'd also contend that far more of Hollywood's output today is sequels and remakes than it was 30 years ago. Also, how many sequels/remakes are better than, or anywhere near as good as, the original? Very few IMHO.

Tron didn't have as much CGI as people think.
However, the film contains less computer-generated imagery than is generally supposed: Only fifteen to twenty minutes of actual animation were used, mostly scenes that use vehicles such as light-cycles, tanks and ships. Because the technology to combine computer animation and live action did not exist at the time, these sequences were intercut with the filmed characters.
Most of the scenes, backgrounds and visual effects in the film were created using more traditional techniques and a unique process known as "backlit animation". In this process, live-action scenes inside the computer world were filmed in black-and-white on an entirely black set, printed on large format high-contrast film, then colorized with photographic and rotoscopic techniques to give them a "technological" feel.

Jeff Bridges has long been an Oscar caliber actor. He's been one of the most natural and impressive screen actors since he came along in the early 70s.
He was nominated in 1972 and 1975 as a supporting actor well before Tron and in 1984 (two years after Tron) for best actor.

not to say that hanna montana will when an oscar one day, but shit is just paying the bills, paying their dues. joseph gordon-levitt has damn near made a career both on and off the screen by taking shitty commercial roles (gi fucking joe? really?) to fund his own independent ventures.

I thought I was the only one that Jeff Bridges' face looked younger in the trailer. I'm curious to see how that will look in IMAX 3D. If you watch it in IMAX 3D, you will definitely be able to see that. You would think that with all of the technology that exists now that stuff like that would look better. Anthony Hopkins' face was digitally altered to make him younger in the movie Red Dragon. I think Patrick Stewart's face was changed too in the Wolverine movie. I still want to see this new Tron sequel because it looks pretty bad ass. I just hope Disney fixes Jeff Bridges' face.

They're scouring fast food restaurants as we speak, looking for the original cast members to do cameos. Except for Robert Preston, of course. He's dead.

I'll see a movie in 3D if it was made properly for it.

Olivia Wilde was nice to look at. So was the one gal who helped zip up the kid when he got on the grid (and accompanied him to the End of Line to find Zeus).
The FX and music were great.
The writing was teh suk and the acting at times redefined wooden.
